Does anyone know how to trace an IM username back to the person's identity?

All I have is (what I believe to be) some type of Messenger name and I want to trace it back to the person using it.

See that's the problem... all I currently have is the name.

I'm doing a favor for someone and I'm waiting for them to get back to me with more info, but I was hoping to get a jump on it with just the name.

It also might be the beginning of an email address (i.e. [NAME]@domainhost.com). I'm really not sure as of right now.

I tried to Google the name hoping the person may have it on a web page they've created, but that was fruitless as well.

If you can find out the messenger. This person is using and the name you can search on that messenger.

Also if your looking for a location of this person. If you can establish a connection between you and this person from PC to PC. By Chat Messenger.

You can also figure out the city and state this person lives in. Everything on the internet runs on ports and established ports. Even browsing the internet itself.
