Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers (-135, 5.5)
THE STORY: After failing to close out a 3-0 advantage in the 2010 Eastern Conference semifinals series, the Boston Bruins made sure to put their best foot forward in this year's edition. David Krejci collected two goals and two assists and Brad Marchand also tallied twice as the third-seeded Bruins skated to a convincing 7-3 road triumph over the second-seeded Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Claude Julien's club will look to continue that momentum on Monday when the teams reconvene at Wells Fargo Center for Game 2 of the series. Boston has won all three games in Philadelphia this season.
TV: 7:30 ET, VERSUS, TSN
ABOUT THE FLYERS: The goaltending carousel took another ugly turn during Saturday's onslaught. Brian Boucher allowed five goals on 23 shots before earning an early shower. Rookie Sergei Bobrovsky didn't exactly set the world on the fire, either, as he stopped eight of 10 shots in relief. Although he has been pulled in two of his last three starts, Boucher will likely get the nod in Game 2, although coach Peter Laviolette has been very vocal in the past that he doesn't publicly talk about such matters. Captain Mike Richards netted his first playoff goal since Game 4 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. James van Riemsdyk also scored on Saturday and matched Richards with eight shots to up his league-leading playoff total to 51.
ABOUT THE BRUINS: Boston is 6-for-6 in winning the first game of a playoff series against Philadelphia. While that's always a comforting thought, the Bruins have dropped three of the five previous sets. Krejci suffered a broken wrist in last year's series against the Flyers. On Saturday, the 25-year-old responded with a career-best four-point afternoon. Tim Thomas continues to stymie the Flyers. The Vezina Trophy finalist stopped 31 shots to improve to 11-2-2 in his career against Philadelphia. Nathan Horton scored and set up a goal, veteran Mark Recchi netted his 58th career postseason tally and Gregory Campbell also scored in the rout.
WHO'S HOT/WHO’S NOT: Philadelphia's Daniel Briere has scored in four straight games and leads the NHL with seven postseason tallies. All-Star Claude Giroux notched two assists on Saturday, marking the fourth consecutive game that he has done so. Boston's Patrice Bergeron continues to have a solid postseason. He set up three goals on Saturday and now has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in eight games. Milan Lucic has failed to score a goal in 18 straight contests.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The Flyers went 1-for-5 on the power play and are now 6-for-38 in the playoffs. For its part, Boston continues to shoot itself in the foot with the man advantage. The Bruins went 0-for-5 in Saturday's tilt and is now 0-for-26 in the playoffs.
LAST WORD: "What happened in the past is in the past. There's been a lot of talk about it, for sure, so we just wanted to come out and show everyone that this is the series that matters to us now." - Horton.
TRENDS: Philadelphia is just 4-10 in its last 14 games as a favorite.
Boston has won four of its last five meetings with Philadelphia.
Philadelphia has played over in six of its last seven overall.
