      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 'n' roll: Today's best basketball bets
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia 76ers at Los Angeles Clippers (-1, 198.5)

Both the Clippers and 76ers have had their moments this year.

Blake Griffin has helped Los Angeles become relevant again with his rim-rattling dunks and the team may have been a much better bet this season if it had been able to stay healthy.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia has been a scrappy team all season and is now looking to hold onto one the last playoff spots in the East as the club continues to pad its supporters’ pockets – the 76ers sit third in the league with a 41-25-1 record against the number. However, with the playoffs nearing, Philadelphia is sputtering.

“We’ve had some slippage losing two in a row and with the playoff push coming down this last stretch, we just gotta catch ourselves and hopefully we’ll get back on track in L.A,” 76ers guard Lou Williams told reporters.

The Clippers are tough at home and this one could go down to the wire.

      Pick: Clippers

Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wichita State Shockers (-4, 124)

The NIT is full of teams that are happy to keep playing, but can’t help but think what might have been. Nebraska is one of those clubs after the Cornhuskers lost and failed to cover in four of its last five games.

Some of those losses were pretty ugly too as th7e couldn’t get it done against the likes of Texas Tech, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

“We’re disappointed in that two weeks ago we were playing for a chance to go to the NCAA tournament,’’ Nebraska coach Doc Sadler told reporters. “But the fact is we didn’t get it done. And the next best thing is the NIT.”

Doesn’t sound overly enthusiastic, does he?

Meanwhile, Wichita State wasn’t much better down the stretch and has covered only once over its last six outings, but we see the Shockers getting up for this home game and relying on their depth to get past Nebraska, which has just one true road victory this season.

      Pick: Shockers

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ice picks: Today's best NHL bets
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

St. Louis Blues at Anaheim Ducks (-155, 5.5)

Randy Carlyle’s Ducks don’t take well to getting embarrassed – especially in front of their hometown fans. That’s why the Blues are in major trouble in this one.

St. Louis shook off its season-long offensive issues by hammering the Ducks 9-3 last month and you can bet the boys in the Anaheim dressing room have had this one circled on the calendar ever since.

That loss served as a bit of a wakeup call for the Ducks as they have gone 5-3-1 following that blowout and the club’s offense looks to be ready to return the favor to St. Louis here. The Ducks ran into a hot Ilya Bryzgalov in a 5-2 loss to Phoenix on Sunday but had buried 11 goals in two games before that.

Anaheim is in an absolute dogfight just to get into the playoffs and this could be the springboard game the team needs to really get going. After hosting the Blues, the Ducks play seven of their last 12 on the road, so they can’t throw away any more points.

The over and the Ducks look good here, but we’ll stick with the side.

                    Pick: Ducks

Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings (-150, 5.5)

For all the moaning and whining about what’s wrong with the Capitals this season, you might be surprised if you take a quick look at the standings.

Washington sat one point behind Philadelphia for the top spot in the Eastern Conference with 90 points before they dropped Montreal 4-2 on Tuesday, the club's 11th win in 12 games. Detroit sits second in the West with, you guessed it, 90 points.

"I think we are a bigger and fairly stronger team, but there are teams that are definitely overall quicker, so we have to play to our strengths to succeed and lately we have been doing that,” Caps coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters.

That's what they'll be dealing with Wednesday. Detroit has won consecutive contests after enduring a four-game losing streak but the Wings may be going through a bit of a down spell before they’ll inevitably rev it up as the postseason nears.

At this price it’s worth a shot on Washington, even in the back-to-back situation.

                    Pick: Capitals

Dunkel Index was back up for a short time this morning. It's now down again. We may have to do without NHL Dunkel again today.
