Don't usually make plays outside of sporting events but I have a gut feeling this is a winner.
Best Supporting Actress Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit +325. I go to see a fair amount of movies each year and I am rarely impressed with an actor/actress's performance. However I though Hailee Steinfeld's performance as Mattie Ross in True Grit was exceptional. It was doubly so considering she was 13 at the time the movie was made. Never the less she is not the favorite buit this is why I think she has a real good shot at winning it. True Grit received 8 or 9 nominations. Besides Steinfeld Jeff Bridges got one for Best Actor, the movie was nominated for Best Picture and the Cohen Brothers got one for Best Director. If you follow the predictions of the expert then it appears that Bridges, the Cohen Brothers and the movie don't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning in their catagories. I think to acknowledge such a well made film the voters may very well cast their ballot to Steinfeld. That way they will at least get one major award. While I think she is deserving of the award I think the Academy will throw a bone to the dog and give her the award. I wouldn't bet my life savings but I am gonna throw $50 on her.
