Robert E. Lee's Birthday was celebrated in the South during the Civil war. Even today in the South, the day that Robert E. Lee was born is celebrated as "Robert E. Lee" day. It is a Southern Holiday in some areas. It is interesting that in some years his birthdate occurs on the day we celebrate Martin Luther King day. This might sound odd at first, but if you study this site you will find a great deal in common between these two men. So, now you know the history behind the South's Robert E. Lee day.
We had Lee-Jackson-King day when I was in school in VA! lol....bol today!!
My sister mentioned something like this to me today. She said before it was MLK day it was "Lee-Davis" day. Slightly different from your account. I am 23 she is 35 and we both grew up in Arlington.
