      Saturday's six-pack

-- Home teams are 5-14 vs. spread in Big West Conference games.

-- Double digit faves are 9-1 vs. spread in MAAC play, 7-1 at home.

-- Underdogs covered nine of first 11 SEC games.

-- Home side covered just two of first ten WCC games.

-- Miami, OH has played the #2 schedule; they’re only team to play Duke-Kansas-Ohio State-San Diego State.

-- NHL teams are 0-7 the night after playing Washington.

Saturday's List of 13: Wide range of weekend knowledge........

      13) If you want to bet the Super Bowl without knowing who’s playing in it, the AFC is currently a 4-point favorite; if you lay the points, root like hell for Seattle to win the NFC then you’ll have yourself a pretty big good deal.

      12) Just for the record, Ben Roethlisberger’s career playoff record is 8-2; he and Eli Manning have won Super Bowls, but Philip Rivers hasn’t— the three will always be linked because they were drafted the same year. if I had my choice of the three, I’d take Rivers—am I way offbase here?

      11) Miami Heat was a 4-point favorite at Denver Thursday, until it was announced that Lebron James was out with a sprained ankle. How much did the line move? Nuggets wound up as a 2.5-point favorite.

      10) I see where Camille Grammer turned down a $30M settlement from her famous ex-husband Kelsey (Frasier on Cheers). I understand that you’re never supposed to accept the other side’s first offer, but exactly how much money is this guy worth?

      9) When you see the Bronx Bombers sign Rafael Soriano for $35M over three years, and you see that Andy Pettitte is leaning to retirement, doesn’t that signal that Joba Chamberlain could be headed to the starting rotation? Have to see if he's available in my fantasy league.

      8) Its pretty cool to see the respect/admiration for retired reliever Trevor Hoffman; everyone seems to love the guy.

      7) Vince Young’s troubles in Tennessee are going to hurt Cam Newton’s draft position; I think Newton is a better passer than Young, but his off-field issues at Florida (stolen laptop, cheating allegations) are going to follow him to the Scouting Combine.

      6) Gary Crowton left his job as offensive coordinator at LSU for the same job at Maryland, which leads me to believe Les Miles wanted him gone. No way is going from LSU to Maryland a positive career move.

      5) Tulsa coach Todd Graham was making $500,000, while SMU’s June Jones, with a usually-lesser team in the same league, makes $2M, which a) is why Graham went to Pitt and b) why Tulsa had trouble getting good applicants to fill their vacant job. For better or worse, $500,000 for a head coach these days is chicken feed.

      4) Its not much fun being an A’s fan; 81-81 is my annual goal now. Its frustrating that we can’t get a new stadium deal, even though owner Lew Wolff and former used car salesman Bud Selig are old college buddies.

      3) The US Postal Service spent $31M sponsoring Lance Armstrong on his bicycle from 2001-04? WTF? This is why stamps cost so much? It makes absolutely no sense-- how was this allowed?

      2) We know that the #4 seed in both conferences is the worst of the division winners; since 1990, the NFC #4 seed is 1-13 SU in this round, with 10 losses by 10+ points, which is bad news for Seattle fans. Only team to win? The ’08 Cardinals, led by two-time MVP Kurt Warner, winning at Carolina.

      1) How about Bears getting a first-round bye despite being favored in only seven of 16 games? Shouldn’t Lovie Smith be Coach of the Year?
