Since I already posted LSU as my biggest bowl play of hte year, I am calling this my pre January 1 bowl GOY. I think this spread is going to go up so if you like it I would advise playing it now.
Military Bowl Wednesday 12/29, Maryland -7 over East Carolina. Where to start as to why I love this game. As you all now Fridgen got canned at Maryland on Monday but is being allowed to coach this final game. The kids all liked Fridgen so I am positive they will want to send him out on a winning note. At yesterdays press conference for the bowl Fridgen got chocked up talking about this being his last game at Maryland. I am sure he wants nothing more than to give the administration the middle finger by going out with a blowout win. His players said they want to win this one for the coach. When Fridgen was asked about his coaching future he brushed it off by saying he could only guarantee that the Terps were going to finish 9-4 meaning they will win the bowl game.
The bowl officials weren't sure how many tickets they would sell when Maryland was offered the bowl. I heard they were hoping for about 25-30 thousand. Maryland already sold out their allotment, however since Fridgen was fired the ticket sales have gone through the roof and a sellout is all but guaranteed since the game is only 15 miles from the Maryland campus. Most of those in attendance will be Maryland supporters saying goodbye to their coach.
Finally if you want to go out a winner East Carolina is probably the best team to play. They have absolutely the worse defense in Division 1 football and maybe the worse defense of all time. Usualyy a defense can do something well but that doesn't seem to be the case with East Carolina.. East Carolina is 117th out of 120 schools in scoring defense giving up 43 a game. They are 108th in passing defense giving up 259 yds a game and 116th in rushing defense giving up 220 a game. Needless to say they are dead freaking last in total defense giving up 479 yds a game. Hell one dimensional Navy hung up 76 points against them earlier in the year. I think Fridgen and the Terps want to show the administration that they made a mistake. I won't at all be surprised if Maryland scores 50 or more on them.
I will admit that East Carolina has a high scoring offense but Maryland has a pretty solid defense.They are 45th in total defense giving up 353 yds a game and rank 37th in scoring defense giving up 22 a game.
I am not a totals player but I may drop a few on the over as well. I am being very selective this year on which bowls I play. So far I am 1-0 winning with Looieville the other night. I am probably only going to play about 8-10 games this bowl season. This is one I definitely love. BOL if you follow.
