Patriots favored by 6.5 at Detroit

          NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (8-2)
          at DETROIT LIONS (2-8)

Kickoff: Thursday, 12:30 p.m. EDT, Line: New England -6.5, Total: 51

Detroit tries to snap a six-game Thanksgiving losing skid against the red-hot Patriots who are coming off back-to-back wins over Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Detroit has some significant injuries to deal with as RB Jahvid Best (toe) was limited in Wednesday’s practice and TE Tony Scheffler (ribs) and K Jason Hanson (knee) are both out for Thursday’s game. Patriots QB Tom Brady was listed as questionable because of a foot injury, but he will be fine to start this game.

Brady has been excellent all season (19 TD, 4 INT) and has not thrown an interception in his past five games. New England’s +9 turnover margin ranks fourth in the NFL. In the wins over the Steelers and Colts, Brady completed 72 percent of his passes for 536 yards and five touchdowns. The Patriots have also done a solid job in the running game, racking up 168 yards last week and scoring 11 rushing touchdowns this year, good for third-most in the NFL. New England has the third-worst yardage defense in the NFL (398 YPG) and only the Texans are allowing more than the 290 passing YPG the Pats are surrendering.

This is good news for WR Calvin Johnson who has scored touchdowns in six of his past seven games and has at least four catches in nine of 10 games this season. In two games since returning from his forearm injury, QB Shaun Hill has thrown 99 passes (completing 61) for 612 yards and three touchdowns. He will likely attempt another 50 passes against a young New England secondary.

The Lions have been outscored by an average of 36-12 over the past six Turkey Days, but they are a perfect 4-0 ATS at home this year. However, this FoxSheets trend expects Detroit to cover.

Play On - Home teams (DETROIT) - after 3 or more consecutive losses, a terrible team (<=25%) playing a team with a winning record in the second half of the season. (28-6 over the last 10 seasons.) (82.4%, +21.4 units. Rating = 3*).

This FoxSheets stat sides with the Under on Thursday:

Play Under - Any team where the total is greater than or equal to 49.5 (NEW ENGLAND) - after going over the total by 21 or more points total in their last three games, in weeks 10 through 13. (28-7 since 1983.) (80%, +20.3 units. Rating = 3*).

Texas A&M goes for 6th straight win

            TEXAS A&M AGGIES (8-3)
            at TEXAS LONGHORNS (5-6)

            Kickoff: Thursday, 8:00 p.m. EDT, Line: Texas A&M -3.5, Total: 47.5

Texas A&M brings a five-game winning streak (SU and ATS) to Austin for a date with rival Texas on Thanksgiving night. The Longhorns beat Florida Atlantic 51-17 last week, but they have lost four in a row to Big 12 schools, losing by an average of 14.3 PPG.

The roller-coaster ride continues for Texas A&M as it started the year 3-0, then lost three straight. Now the Aggies are riding a five-game win streak, outscoring their opponents 174 to 92 over that stretch, with Ryan Tannehill leading the way at quarterback. Tannehill has thrown 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions since replacing preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Jerrod Johnson at quarterback. RB Cyrus Gray has been the team’s offensive star, rushing for 615 yards and eight TD during the five-game win streak. He has also caught 18 passes for 113 yards over this span since replacing RB Christine Michael who was lost for the year with a broken leg. The Aggies defense was stellar in last week’s 9-6 win over Nebraska, as the Huskers gained a mere 306 yards and turned the ball over twice. Texas A&M ranks 15th in the nation in rushing defense (115 YPG).

The big reason Texas has six losses (five in conference) is turnovers. The ‘Horns have the fifth-worst turnover margin per game (-0.91) in the nation, with 26 giveaways and 16 takeaways. Sophomore QB Garrett Gilbert has 14 interceptions (and just 5 TD) in seven Big 12 games this year. Texas’ defense has held its own, especially considering the terrible predicaments the offense keeps putting them in. The Longhorns rank eighth in the nation in total defense (294 YPG) and 11th in passing defense (165 YPG).

Since 2000, Texas has taken eight of the 10 meetings SU, including scoring 49 points in each of the past two meetings. This FoxSheets trend thinks Texas A&M will continue its winning ways and get the road win:

Play On - Favorites of 3.5 to 10 points (TEXAS A&M) - after allowing 9 points or less last game against opponent after scoring 24 points or more in the first half last game. (62-25 since 1992.) (71.3%, +34.5 units. Rating = 3*).

This FoxSheets trend points towards the Under on Thursday night:

Play Under - Any team against the total (TEXAS) - after failing to cover the spread in 5 or 6 out of their last 7 games, when playing on a Thursday. (31-6 over the last 10 seasons.) (83.8%, +24.4 units. Rating = 4*).

Clippers are 3-point favorites over Kings

              SACRAMENTO KINGS (4-9)

              at LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (2-13)

              Tip-off: Thursday, 10:30 p.m. EDT
Line: Los Angeles -3, Total: 193

Who needs football on Thanksgiving when you can watch this stellar matchup between NBA teams with a combined 6-22 SU record? The Kings are slowly improving since losing six straight games SU and seven straight ATS. Sacramento is 2-1 ATS in its past three games, which could be 3-0 SU if it shot the ball better. The Kings connected on just 39% FG in a four-point loss to New Orleans and then made just 36% from the floor in an 11-point loss at Utah. Kings’ leading scorer Tyreke Evans (18.3 PPG) was particularly cold in these two games, shooting 7-for-24 (29%).

The Clippers amazingly snapped a nine-game SU losing streak with a 99-95 win over New Orleans on Monday. Eric Gordon poured in a team-high 27 points while Blake Griffin scored 24 points and grabbed 13 boards. The Clippers are not favored very often, which is a good thing for bettors inclined to put money on the Clips. This season, L.A. is 0-3 (SU and ATS) as a favorite, allowing 115.7 PPG.

Since 1998-99, the Clippers are a dismal 12-35 SU (25.5%) against Sacramento, and the Kings won the final three meetings last season by an average of 13.3 PPG. This FoxSheets stat gives another reason to pick Sacramento on Thanksgiving night:

Play On - Road teams (SACRAMENTO) - off a road loss by 10 points or more, a bad team, winning 25% to 40% of their games on the season. (177-113 over the last 5 seasons.) (61%, +52.7 units. Rating = 2*).
