Posting this now because I am playing it now. I will have other smaller plays later this week but this will be my largest. Really like this game.
N.C. State -2 over Maryland. On paper these two teams appear to be evenly matched but I think state has a decided edge in the most important position, QB. I think Russell Wilson is one of the most dynamic players in college football both as a runner and a passer. Maryland starts a redshirt freshman Danny O'Brien and while he has had a nice season he doesn't come close to Wilson in athleticism.
While State and the Terps have similar records, State is 8-3, 5-2 in the ACC while the Terps are 7-4, 4-3 in the ACC, there is a big difference in the quality of opponents each has beaten. While I agree the ACC was down this year as far as the quality of teams, Maryland was fortunate to play all the real stiffs, including Virginia, Wake,& Duke. The combined records of the 4 teams Maryland beat in conference is 15-29. The 3 losses were against teams with a 21-12 record. In other words the Terps beat up on the bad teams and lost to the decent ones (Miami, FSU, and Clemson). State on the other hand beat 5 teams with a combined record of 28-27 and lost to two teams with a combined record of 15-7.
One last thing to consider is this game means everything to State and nothing to Maryland. If State wins they go to the ACC Championship game the following week against Va. Tech. If they lose Florida State goes against Va. Tech. I read an interesting article about Russell Wilson last week. His father , who he was really close to, died over the summer after a long illness. Wilson went on to say that he wanted to win it for his dad, since this is probably going to be his last year at State. Even though he is a junior he was drafted by a major league baseball team and is probably sign to play baseball after the season. GO Wolfpack. BOL if you follow.
