Game of the day: Kansas State vs. Duke
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kansas State Wildcats vs. Duke Blue Devils (-5.5)

Kansas City will be the center of the college basketball world Tuesday as No. 1 Duke meets No. 3 Kansas State in the championship game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.

                Home away from home

In Monday’s semifinal action, Duke (4-0) held off Marquette, 82-77, behind sophomore Mason Plumlee’s career-high 25 points. Kansas State (4-0) advanced with an 81-64 win over No. 12 Gonzaga, which trailed the entire contest.

Against Gonzaga, Kansas State’s Jacob Pullen scored a game-high 18 points in just 26 minutes as the Wildcats cruised to the surprisingly easy win. The sellout crowd at the Sprint Center was firmly behind the Wildcats, who were playing just about two hours from campus.

Kansas State, which led by as many as 22 in the second half, saw Will Spradling score 13 points and Rodney McGruder add 10 points and eight rebounds. Forward Jamar Samuels had eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Head coach Frank Martin played nine players 14 or more minutes Monday night, allowing the Wildcats to maintain its preferred up-tempo pace.

Kansas State, which advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season, went 2-0 last week including a 16-point victory over then-No. 24 Virginia Tech. The Wildcats also had a nine-point victory over Presbyterian last week.

After missing the first three games for disciplinary reasons, forward/center Curtis Kelly made his season debut against Gonzaga, finishing with three points and four rebounds in 15 minutes. A preseason All-Big 12 pick, the 6-8 senior figures to see more playing time against Duke.

                Devil of a time

While Kansas State was resting many of its starters in the second half against Gonzaga, Duke had to battle late into the game before dispatching a pesky Marquette team. The Blue Devils took an early 23-9 lead, before Marquette (4-1) tied it three times. Duke answered with a 9-0 run to secure the win.

In addition to his 25 points, Mason Plumlee had 12 rebounds and five blocks. The sophomore center scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half Monday, while Nolan Smith had 18 points. Kyle Singler added 14 while freshman Kyrie Irving had 11 points and seven assists.

However, Plumlee’s performance generated all the buzz after the Marquette game. Two games ago, he set a career-high against Miami (OH) with 14 rebounds, and Monday’s performance proved why many experts view him as a a prospective NBA lottery pick. Against Kansas State, he’ll be asked to be just as dominant.

This is the seventh straight season Duke has started 4-0 and the 21st time in Mike Krzyzewski's 32 seasons. Duke has won 25 consecutive games in November, dating back to a 73-62 loss to Marquette in the championship game of the 2006 CBE Classic.

Kansas State improved to 6-2 at the Sprint Center with its win over Gonzaga, and Duke knows the crowd will be decidedly pro-Wildcats for the championship game.

Tickets that originally sold for as low as $10 each are selling on StubHub.com for as much as $350 for the championship and consolation games Tuesday.
