Tuesday NHL odds favor Stars versus Ducks

Pacific Division rivals Anaheim and Dallas meet for the first time this season with Tuesday’s tussle in Texas. The Ducks currently find themselves tied for third place in the division with San Jose, just one point ahead of last-place Phoenix. Anaheim has the second-worst scoring differential in the league entering this contest at minus 12, scoring just 21 goals while surrendering 33.

The Stars are locked in a first-place tie with Los Angeles behind one of the league’s most potent offenses. Dallas has a scoring differential of plus 7, netting 24 goals while allowing 17.

Anaheim (3-5-0-1) is searching for some consistency after alternating wins and losses the past seven games. The Ducks continued that trend with Saturday’s setback to Detroit as a 191 road underdog, 5-4. The combined nine goals soared past the 5 ½-goal closing total, ending a string of three straight ‘under’ outings.

The game appeared to be heading into overtime until the Red Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk netted the game winner with just 12 seconds remaining. The Ducks did maintain a brief two-goal lead in the second period, 3-1, but finished the game trailing Detroit in faceoffs won (34-24) and shots on goal (41-25).

Dallas (5-2-0-0) is also battling consistency entering this matchup after alternating wins and losses its last four games. The Stars were blanked by Nashville Saturday as 128 home ‘chalk,’ 1-0, while the lone goal never seriously threatened the 5 ½-goal closing total. The ‘under’ is now 4-1 at the hockey betting window their previous five outings.

The only goal of the game occurred in the first minute when the Predators’ Cal O’Reilly snuck a rebound past Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen. The Stars lost despite maintaining advantages in faceoffs won (33-24) and shots on goal (30-24). Dallas scored 22 goals its first six games before getting blanked, the team’s best offensive start since the beginning of the 1996-97 campaign. In fact, the Stars scored at least three goals in each of their first six outings.

Anaheim defenseman Cam Fowler is ‘questionable’ with a neck injury versus the Stars, while right wing Joffrey Lupul (back) and right wing Dan Sexton (nose) are ‘out.’ The Ducks have struggled to a 16-36 record their last 52 road games, and the ‘under’ is 18-7-1 the previous 26 road endeavors. Anaheim concludes a four-game homestand with this contest.

Dallas is 7-2 its last nine games overall, but just 5-11 the past 16 Tuesday games. The Stars are 18-6-1 the previous 25 home meetings with Anaheim. Dallas continues a season-high six-game homestand after this contest with games against Los Angeles, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Phoenix.

The Stars went 4-2 against Anaheim last season, with three of those victories occurring on their home ice. Four of those games were decided by two goals, while one contest went to overtime and another was decided by shootout.

Tuesday’s matchup is scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m. PT from American Airlines Center in Dallas, with FOX Southwest providing coverage.
