Any discussion about 2003 Western Athletic Conference football is usually about who will finish 2nd behind Boise State. The Bulldogs are treating the WAC like their own personal playground. Boise has won six consecutive conference games by over 40 points per contest and I see no reason why they can't cover this cheap number at Hawaii on Saturday night. Hawaii received a spark last weekend when Jason Whieldon replaced the pathetic Timmy Chang to lead the Rainbows over lifeless Alabama. Of course the Crimson Tide is still in the Stone Age when it comes to the forward pass. Talk about a transition, now the Rainbows try to stop the lethal combination of Boise QB Ryan Dinwiddie and WR Tim Gilligan. I put the Over/Under on TD passes at three for this dynamic duo. If Alabama's predictable offense can amass over 400 yards of total offense (despite three turnovers) against Hawaii, I can't imagine the kind of destruction Dinwiddie is capable of. Boise State won last year's meeting 58-31. Dinwiddie only played into the 3rd quarter last week and the Bulldogs still threw for 437 yards against Nevada. Dinwiddie owns an obscene 28:4 TD/Interception ratio this year. Hiding behind the scenes is the Boise State defense which has allowed just 11.7 points per game in their last half-dozen contests. "The Animal" is especially impressed with the lightening quick secondary that Boise State possesses. This Boise State program is very excited as they will be going to a bowl game other than in their own backyard (accepted Ft Worth Bowl rather than Humanitarian). This is icing on the cake and in a game that should feature 120 pass attempts, I'd rather take the proven Dinwiddie and easily the superior defense over a suspect Hawaii stop-unit with an inexperienced signal caller in Whieldon.
