  • NCAA Game of the Month for Saturday 10/9

I love this play and actually think the wrong team is favored.

Baylor +2 over Texas Tech. This is not the same TT team we are used to under Mike Leach. They are still one dimensional primarily being a passing team but that is where the similasity ends.

Baylor is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 conference games. Offensively they are well balanced averaging 470 yards a game, 290 passing and 180 rushing. Defensively they have been very strong so far this year. They are giving up an average of 15 points a game and 328 yards a game, 182 passing and 146 rushing. Baylor's QB Robert Griffin is the Big 12's version of Denard Robinson. He won Big 12 player of the week honors for his performance against Kansas, going 26/36 for 380 yards and 3 TDs and was the team's leading rusher running for 64 yards on 8 carries and 1 TD.

TT is averaging 386 yards a game offensively, 301 yards passing and 85 rushing. Defensively TT is a sieve. They are allowing 30 points a game, 242 yards per game passing and 137 yards rushing per game. In fact Iowa State just dropped 52 on them and Baylor is a hell of a lot better than Iowa State.

The game is being played at a neutral site, the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. However Baylor's campus is 96 miles from Dallas while TT's campus is 330 miles from Dallas. Have a feeling there will be more Baylor fans in the stands than TT fans. Baylor has lost 13 or 14 in a row to TT. However I think they finally get the monkey off their back. This is a very Big game for Baylor.

    I like the pick buddy...

I do disagree with the number of fans however. Tech has a large DFW alumni base so I would think the crowd will favor Tech slightly. I don't think that matters though. This is a huge game for Baylor and Briles will have them ready. They have talent are starting to realize they can win games. Without looking it up, I think the last time we beat Tech was 1995. The last two years have bene good games. We jumped out to a good lead on them in 2008 in Lubbock with Griffin making some pretty big plays but lost late.

Good luck - I am on it too...

Shoe I do stand corrected about the crowd favoring Baylor. I have a buddy who is a TT graduate who immediately corrected me in an e-mail. He told me he went to the game last year in Dallas and there were more TT fans than Baylor fans. Evidently there is a large number of TT alumni living around Dallas. However he agrees that Baylor is gona win the game. He told me a lot of TT alum aren't crazy about the job Tubberville has been doing. I actually almost made this a GOY but didn't want to jinx myself. Go Bears.

I bought 4 tickets to that game last year and sold them for triple the face value to tech fans. I agree with Tech having more fans, if not in the area, but willing to travel to Dallas. Thats a hell of a getaway weekend from Lubbock. I think I am going to sit on this one for a while and see what the line does. Theres something fishy about it. Regardless GL, and I'll probably be joining you on it soon.

Shoe: Baylor put on one of the worse defensive performances in the first half of that game that I can ever recall seeing. You could have taken 11 guys out of the stands and not done any worse. Having said that they still should have won that game. Holding TT to 10 points in the second half and they still lost. Very very disappointing performance all around.

I agree - the 8 yard cushions to each receiver and the lack of any attempt to wrap up a runner was pathetic. We really needed a win in this game looking at the bowl prespective...
