CFL Betting Odds: Roughriders at Argonauts

The chase for the postseason is in full gear as the Saskatchewan Roughriders try and close the gap with Calgary in the West Division with a win on the road over the Toronto Argonauts. This Week 14 matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (PT).

Saskatchewan is coming off a big 32-25 win over Hamilton last Saturday to move within one game of Calgary for the lead in the West Division. The Roughriders covered as a 1 ½-point road favorite and the total went ‘over’ the 53 ½-point line. They are now 8-4 straight-up on the year and 7-5 against the spread. Calgary has lost its last two games to fall to 9-3 on the year. Saskatchewan has struggled on the road this season as it is just 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS.

Toronto is taking on water as it has now lost four of its last five games both SU and ATS. Last week the Argonauts fell to lowly Edmonton 24-6 as a three-point home favorite. The total in this game stayed way ‘under’ the 49-point total. They are now 6-6 SU and ATS on the year and tied with Hamilton for second place in the East Division. Playing at home should provide a slight advantage in this game as Toronto is 4-2 both SU and ATS.

Top CFL Betting Odds at 5Dimes.

This will be the first of a home-and-home series between these two teams as they will face one another again next week in Saskatchewan. The Roughriders have won seven of the last 10 meetings SU between these two and is 5-4-1 ATS. They have actually won the last four SU but are just 1-2-1 ATS. The home team is 4-6 SU and just 2-7-1 ATS in the last 10 games of this series. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of these 10 games.

Statistically, Saskatchewan has a significant edge on offense in this game. The Roughriders are ranked third in total points scored with 353, while the Argonauts are ranked seventh with 243. Saskatchewan is averaging 420.2 total yards per game, second only to Calgary. Toronto is ranked last in the league, averaging just 323.1 total yards per game.

Defensively these teams are much more evenly matched. The Roughriders are giving up an average of 398.2 yards and 27.4 points per game and the Alouettes are giving up an average of 406.7 yards and 26.4 points per game.

Sportsinteraction.com has opened Saskatchewan as a four-point road favorite at the CFL betting window. Friday's 'total' is set at 48 ½. Toronto has not played a solid game since its 37-22 win over Montreal in Week 7.

The Roughriders have the momentum and fully realize that a win in this game would set up a great opportunity for the series sweep at home next week. Take Saskatchewan and give the four points in this one.

MLB Betting: Desperate Padres in San Fran

The San Diego Padres’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread as they continue their weekend series Saturday night at the San Francisco Giants.

The Padres (88-71) entered Friday trailing the Giants by three games in the NL West. They led the division by 6 ½-games back on Aug. 25, but a 10-game losing streak and a 12-16 overall record in September crippled their chances.

San Diego sent Clayton Richard (13-9, 3.71 ERA) to the mound on Friday to face Matt Cain (13-10, 2.95 ERA). San Francisco has won Cain’s last seven starts and another one will clinch the division. That late result is still pending.

The Padres are also two games behind Atlanta for the wild-card, with the Braves hosting a Philly team playing out the string. Atlanta’s magic number over San Diego was two pending Friday’s finals.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Easy Streets Sports.

Tim Stauffer (5-5, 1.89 ERA) will be on the mound for San Diego on Saturday. He’s been a solid member of the pitching staff with 25 appearances in relief and six as a starter.

The 28-year-old righty has started the last five games (2-2, 2.25 ERA). The two road starts at the Dodgers and Cardinals (4.09 ERA) were nowhere good as the three at home (1.06 ERA). He’s gotten almost no run support with San Diego scoring eight runs in the five games.

Stauffer made a home start against San Francisco on Sept 11, throwing six scoreless innings in a 1-0 win. He pitched well in a start at the Giants last year, two earned runs over seven innings. He’s 3-2 with a 2.81 ERA lifetime against them.

San Francisco (91-68) finished up September with a three-game home sweep over Arizona. It’s gone 8-2 in its last 10 games and was 18-8 overall in September.

Pitching was the key with an incredible 1.81 ERA last month. The next closest NL competitor was Milwaukee (3.00). The ‘under’ is 10-2 in San Francisco’s last 12 home games and 20-8 in its last 28 overall.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Easy Streets Sports.

The Giants are scheduled to start Barry Zito (9-13, 4.08 ERA) on Saturday. He was pushed back from Friday in favor of Cain. He will have had a week off between starts and is 7-5 (3.19 ERA) at home, compared to 2-8 (5.09 ERA) away.

The 32-year-old lefty had a 4.15 ERA in September. The highest of the other four starters was Cain (2.19). The Giants are 1-7 in Zito’s last eight starts.

Zito has surprisingly only made one start vs. the Padres this year. That was way back on May 11, allowing three runs over five innings in a 3-2 loss. He’s 3-7 with a 4.23 ERA lifetime against them.

Neither team is reporting any significant injuries for this series.

The Padres are 10-5 against the Giants this year, winning the first seven and going 3-5 since. They’re 5-1 in San Francisco. The MLB odds ‘under’ is 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings in San Fran.

MLB Odds: Jimenez aims for 20th win at Cardinals

Two MLB teams that fell just short of their respective playoff aspirations play the third game of a four-game set Saturday when Colorado visits St. Louis. Both squads will finish above .500 on the season, and both will be watching the postseason from home.

The Rockies were in the midst of the playoff chase until a recent 1-9 skid knocked them out of contention in the National League West and wild-card chase. Meanwhile, the Cardinals were never able to overtake the Cincinnati Reds in an effort to repeat as NL Central champions.

Colorado ace Ubaldo Jimenez (19-8, 2.99 ERA) has this final shot to capture his 20th victory of the season. The Dominican Republic native has seen six of his eight losses this season occur when he’s surrendered three runs or fewer.

Top NCAAF Betting Odds at Easy Streets Sports.

The right-hander is currently dealing with a personal two-game losing skid after Monday’s setback to Los Angeles as 191 home ‘chalk,’ 3-1. The five-year veteran was reached for two runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts over seven innings and a hefty 124 pitches.

The combined four runs failed to eclipse the 8 ½-run closing total at the MLB betting window, ending back-to-back ‘over’ outings. That marked the fourth time his past 10 starts that he threw 122 pitches or more.

Jimenez beat the Cardinals July 8 in his only start against them this season as a 139 home favorite, 4-2. The 26-year-old went eight innings, yielding just one run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The combined six runs went ‘under’ the 7 ½-run closing total, ending three straight ‘over’ outings when he starts versus the Redbirds.

Colorado, 31-47 away from home, has played itself out of the postseason by going just 1-10 its last 11 games overall. The Rockies have seen the ‘over’ go 11-5 the previous 16 outings.

St. Louis right-hander Kyle Lohse (4-8, 7.09 ERA) picked up a no-decision in Monday’s effort versus Pittsburgh. The 31-year-old went six innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits (one home run) with two walks and two strikeouts on 106 pitches.

Top NCAAF Betting Odds at Easy Streets Sports.

The Cardinals eventually won that matchup as a 150 home favorite, 6-4, while the combined 10 runs eclipsed the nine-run closing total. The ‘over’ is now 7-1 his previous eight outings.

Lohse has not started against the Rockies since last season when he lost as a 177 road underdog, 4-3. The 6-foot-2 hurler tossed five innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The combined seven runs failed to topple the 9 ½-run closing total.

St. Louis, a solid 49-29 at Busch Stadium, has seen the ‘over’ go 8-1-2 in Lohse’s last 11 Saturday starts. The Cardinals are just 2-11 the previous 13 meetings with Colorado overall.

Saturday’s forecast for St. Louis calls for mostly sunny skies and a 20 percent chance of rain, with a high of 65 degrees and a low of 40.
