CFL Odds: BC Lions visit Calgary Stampeders

The B.C. Lions will be looking to stay in the race for the playoffs with a huge road win over the West Division leading Calgary Stampeders. This Week 13 matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (PT).

British Columbia is coming off a tough 35-31 loss to Hamilton in a game it was favored at home by 3 ½ points. The total went way ‘over’ the 50-point line. The loss dropped the Lions to 3-8 straight up on the year and 4-7 against the CFL spread, putting them in third place in the West Division. They are actually a somewhat better road team having only won one out of five games at home. They are 2-3 both SU and ATS on the road.

Calgary continues to be the best team in the league, but it took a step back toward the pack last week in a wild 43-37 overtime loss to Saskatchewan as a 3 ½-point road favorite. The combined 80 points scored crushed the total line of 54 ½ points. The Stampeders are now 9-2 SU and 8-3 ATS. Despite the loss they still have a two game lead over the Roughriders in the West. They are a perfect 5-0 SU at home and 4-1 ATS.

These two teams have already played each other twice this season with Calgary winning each on the road both SU and ATS. The first game, in Week 6, was close until Stampeders S Dwight Anderson picked off a Travis Lulay pass and returned it 48 yards to the Lions 10 yard line. This led to a Henry Burris to Ryan Thelwell touchdown pass that gave Calgary an 11 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Stamps went onto win 27-22 and cover the two-point CFL spread as a road favorite. The total ended up a ‘push’ at 49.

Three weeks later in the second game, Calgary piled up close to 500 yards of total offense in a 48-35 romp that was not nearly as close as the 13 point margin of victory. Once again, the Stampeders covered as a 5 ½-point road favorite. The 51-point total line never stood a chance as this game went way ‘over’ as well.

Calgary comes into this game ranked No.1 in the league in just about every major offense and defense category there is. The Stampeders are averaging 36 points a game on offense and giving up an average of just 22.3 points a game on defense. B.C. is ranked fifth in average points scored with 25.1 a game and sixth in average points allowed giving up 26.8.

Sportsinteraction.com has Calgary favored by 10 points and the ‘over/under’ line at 55. The Stampeders are a perfect 10-0 SU in their last 10 games against the Lions and 8-0-1 ATS in their last nine. They have won the last five games at home by an average of 8.2 points as B.C. has been able to keep these games fairly close.

Even with that being the case, expect the Stamps to come out fired up with last week’s loss still fresh on their minds and take it out on the Lions in a romp.

          CFL Betting: Hamilton hosts Roughriders

The Saskatchewan Roughriders, riding high after a big win over Calgary last week, look to carry that momentum into Hamilton when they face the Tiger-Cats. This Week 13 matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25 at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (PT).

Saskatchewan closed the gap in the West Division race with a huge 43-37 overtime win over the first place Stampeders as a 3 ½-point home underdog. The total in this game went way ‘over’ the 54 ½ point line.

The victory leaves the Roughriders just two games out of first with a 7-4 record straight up. Against the CFL spread they are 6-5 on the year. Despite the winning record they have had their troubles on the road this season winning just one of five SU and two of five ATS.

Hamilton outgunned British Columbia last week 35-31 last week as a 3 ½-point road underdog. The total in this game also went way ‘over’ the 50-point line. The win raised the Tiger-Cats record on the year to 6-5 both SU and ATS and leaves them tied with Toronto in the East, just two games in back of division leader Montreal. They have the slight edge when playing at home with a 3-2 record both SU and ATS.

These two teams met in Week 5 with the Roughriders blowing the game wide open in the second half in a 37-24 win after trailing by one at the half. Saskatchewan was favored by eight points at home in this game and the total went ‘over’ the 55-point CFL betting total. Tiger-Cat QB Kevin Glenn and WR Arland Bruce III put up some huge numbers in this game. Glenn threw for 425 yards and three TD’s and Bruce caught 16 balls for 272 yards but this was still not enough to overcome Luca Congi’s seven field goals for the Roughriders.

Saskatchewan is ranked third in the league in total points scored with 321 while Hamilton is sixth with 270. The Roughriders are averaging 413.3 yards per game, second only to Calgary. The Tiger-Cats are ranked fifth in the league; averaging 358.9 yards per game. Defensively the advantage belongs to Hamilton as it is tied with Saskatchewan for fifth in average yards allowed (389) per game, but ranked third in average points allowed while the Roughriders are ranked seventh.

Sportsinteraction.com has Hamilton favored by one point and the ‘over/under’ line at 53 ½. Saskatchewan has won nine of the last 10 games between these two teams SU and is 8-2 ATS. The Tiger-Cats have lost three out of the last four at home in this series both SU and ATS, but won the last time they played in Hamilton (Week 18 of last season) 24-6 as a one point favorite.

These teams are pretty much evenly matched but Hamilton needs this game just a bit more than Saskatchewan and should be able to take advantage of the Roughriders' troubles winning on the road with a close win at home.

MLB Betting: Phillies on a tear

The Philadelphia Phillies, quickly closing in on a fourth straight National League East title, are hoping to appear in their third consecutive World Series.
The Phillies began this three-game series with the New York Mets riding a 10-game winning streak, including three straight against second-place Atlanta. The Mets are playing out the string to another disappointing season, but they still have a shot of finishing the year above .500.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Betonline.

Most offshore sports books monitored by the Don Best odds product installed Philadelphia as a 170 home ‘chalk' over New York, with the total set at 9 ½.

New York pitcher Dillon Gee (1-1, 1.80 ERA) will be making just his fourth start in the major leagues with this matchup. The right-hander hopes to rebound from last Saturday's 4-2 setback to Atlanta as a 131 home underdog.

The 26-year-old went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts on 95 pitches. The combined six runs failed to eclipse the seven-run closing total, helping the ‘under' cash during his third straight start.

Gee has never started against the Phillies during his brief major league career. The Texas-Arlington product went a combined 13 innings versus Washington and Pittsburgh in his first two starts, yielding just one run on seven hits (one home run) with seven walks and seven strikeouts.

New York, 30-48 away from home, concludes its last road trip of the season with Sunday's matchup versus the Phillies. The Mets then wrap up their season with a seven-game homestand versus Milwaukee and Washington. New York has seen the ‘over' go 5-2-1 its past eight outings overall.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Betonline.

Philadelphia gives the starting assignment to Kyle Kendrick (10-9, 4.78 ERA). The Phillies originally skipped the Hendrick's spot in the rotation to get pitchers Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt an extra day of rest before their next effort.

The 6-foot-3 Hendrick has a tenuous spot in Philadelphia's starting rotation due to the recent emergence of rookie Vance Worley.

Kendrick was mired in a personal two-game losing skid before beating Washington on Saturday as a 146 home ‘chalk,' 5-2. The four-year veteran was reached for both runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts over six innings and 93 pitches.

The combined seven runs failed to topple the 9 ½-run closing total, enabling the ‘under' to improve to 4-1 during his last five starts.

Kendrick has faced the Mets twice since mid-August, going 1-1 while tossing a combined 11 2/3 innings. The Texas native surrendered a combined three runs on 11 hits (two home runs) with three walks and five strikeouts. The Phillies prevailed Aug. 15 as a 119 road underdog, 3-1, while losing Sept. 11 as a 106 road selection, 4-3. The ‘under' prevailed in both matchups.

Philadelphia, an impressive 51-27 at Citizens Bank Park, concludes a nine-game homestand with this series before going on the road for six games against Washington and Atlanta. The Phillies and Mets have seen the ‘under' go 20-7 the previous 27 meetings.

Saturday's weather forecast for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania calls for sunny skies, with a high of 84 degrees and a low of 57.

MLB Odds: Angels need strong finish

The Los Angeles Angels still have a lot to play for when they host the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night in the middle game of this three-game weekend series.
The Angels are trying to avoid finishing under .500 for the first time since 2003 (77-85). They haven't won less than 89 games in any of the last six years.

Manager Mike Scioscia still has his team playing hard, going 9-4 in the last 13 games. Prior to Friday's opener, Los Angeles had the AL's best ERA in September (2.62), but is 12th in runs scored (3.58 per game).

Scoring has been a problem for the Angels since July 1. Their scoring average (3.69) is way down from the first three months (4.78). Part of the problem was losing first baseman Kendry Morales at the end of May. His big bat was never adequately replaced.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Betonline.

Los Angeles recently lost shortstop Erick Aybar to a season-ending sports hernia injury.

Scott Kazmir (9-14, 5.84 ERA) will get the call for Los Angeles. He's struggled big-time this year with career high's in ERA, losses and OPS (.838). His strikeout rate (5.78) is by far the lowest of his career.

The 26-year-old lefty was put on the DL in July in what was called "shoulder fatigue," although his 6.92 ERA was at least part of the reason. Kazmir is 2-5 with a 3.83 ERA in nine starts since returning. He's only made it through the sixth inning two times during that span.

Kazmir's one start against Chicago this year (July 5) was on the road. He allowed seven earned runs in 6 1/3 innings and got put on the DL one start later. He's 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA lifetime against Chicago.

The White Sox trailed Minnesota by 3 ½-games in the AL Central standings on Sept. 6. They've gone 3-12 since and are officially eliminated from the playoffs. Chicago did break an eight-game losing streak Wednesday night at Oakland.

Manager Ozzie Guillen has been feuding with GM Kenny Williams all year and wants to know where he stands for next season. Manny Ramirez has hit just one homer in 19 games since coming over from the Dodgers. He was "questionable" Friday with the flu.

Chicago's John Danks (13-11, 3.80 ERA) looks to finish the season strong. He surrendered seven earned runs over 6 1/3 innings last Sunday versus Detroit. The damage came on just six hits.

Top MLB Betting Odds at Betonline.

The 25-year-old lefty has a 6.02 ERA in his last seven starts overall. The White Soxe are 1-6 in Danks' last seven starts, with the hurler allowing nine home runs during that period.

Danks is 1-1 with a 1.08 ERA in two starts against the Angels this year (both home). The more recent one was a two-hit, complete game shutout on July 8. He's 1-0 with a 1.47 ERA in three lifetime starts in Los Angeles.

These teams have met six times this year, all in Chicago. The Angels won the first two and lost the last four. Chicago is 15-7 in its last 22 games in Los Angeles. The ‘under' is 19-7 in the last 26 games in L.A.

The first pitch Saturday is 6:05 p.m. (PT). The weather forecast calls for clear skies and temperatures in the 70s.
