CFB Plays will be Rated in a 2*-5* System. I will try to give a little insight with each pick but when I am pressed for time, I will have to skip the write-up. I will add games as I cap them through the weekend.



4* "OVER" (47) Marshall/Ohio St (7:30 PM)
Combined they averaged 52 ppg last year and both should be better on offense this season. Marshall should score enough to get this total over while the Buckeyes score plenty. The Herd returns 7 on offense including a solid Sr. QB, very experienced WR's and a solid RB that averaged almost 5 yards a carry last season. Ohio St returns 9 on offense and they are loaded as you all know. The spread scares me a little bit as OSU could go up big early and that would leave the backdoor open for a cover late if they insert some reserves. Ohio St 43 Marshall 16


2* Southern Miss +14 (7:35 PM)
Taking the points here with a Eagles team that returns 2 very solid QB's, a good WR and 9 Starters on a solid defense that has a +21 turnover ratio over the last 2 years. They only have the center returning on the O-Line and they lost a stud RB but I think they can keep it within the number here. Over the last 10 years, they are (13-3) Ats when playing on the road in the 1st 3 weeks of the season. The Gamecocks have some talented WR's returning and Garcia at QB but they have only averaged 21 ppg over the last 2 seasons and Spurrier is (5-9) Ats in Home Openers, while the Gamecocks are (7-14) Ats in their last 21 openers at Home. 3* Minnesota -1 (7:35 PM)
Hard to back MTSU in this one. They lose their all everything QB Dasher to suspension and they will have to start a JUCO transfer who has yet to take a snap at this level. Dasher was the preseason pick for Conference Player of the Year and he will be a huge loss to say the least. He accounted for 76% of their yards last season and 77% of their TD's. He was also the teams leading rusher by a wide margin at the QB position. Losing Dasher may be just what the doctor ordered for a rebuilding Gopher defense that only returns 2 starters. On the other side of the ball Minnesota returns 9 on offense, including Sr. QB Adam Weber and the whole offensive line. The Gophers usually start strong going (10-2) SU in their last 12 openers while MTSU is (3-11) SU in openers since 1996 and (0-4) Ats in their last 4 openers under the current HC. 4* Utah -3 (8:35 PM)
Pittsburgh only returns 4 on offense. They have a very unsettled QB taking over and only 2 returning on the O-Line. They have a great back in Lewis and a great WR in Baldwin returning as part of those 4 but I am not sure the new line will benefit Lewis and I am not sure the QB can scare the defense from stacking the line against him and Lewis in this one. Can he get the ball to Baldwin if that happens? It remains to be seen. If Utah locks Baldwin down with their very speedy and solid CB Burton, the Panthers are in trouble here. The Utes return 7 on offense, including a very solid QB in Jordan Wynn who threw for 338 yds in their Bowl game and was named MVP. They also return 2 possible All Conference RB's in Wide & Asiata. I think there is a reason why the unranked team is the favorite here and it goes beyond the Home field advantage. Utah 27 Pittsburgh 16

Damn Wayne - hate to see you going against Pitt so strongly. The game does worry me, but I think Sunseri is going to be a huge upgrade at QB and Dion Lewis has the stage set for a great start to the Heisman hype. Of course, Wanny always finds a way to help his team lose important games, so we will see.
