I have loaded up on prop bets AGAINST David Ortiz, taking Vernon Wells, Matt Holliday, and especially Miguel Cabrera against Ortiz H2H.
One year ago, Ortiz looked like his career might be over due to an odd power outage. He does not want to go through that again. Even more, there is NO WAY that the Red Sox want a 35 year old, hefty player to advance in 80 degree weather.
There are guys in this competition who want to make a mark, want to stand out. His inclusion is a tip of the cap to the 2020 resurgence of Ortiz, who has nothing to prove here, and I'd be amazed if he doesn't finish in the bottom two.
