    Sunday Tips

The final day of interleague action wraps up with five games starting in the late afternoon and evening. The Yankees and Dodgers finish up the card from Chavez Ravine, while a pair of aces take the mound in San Francisco. We'll start in Southern California with an Angels' squad trying to keep pace in the AL West race.

Rockies at Angels - 3:35 PM EST

Los Angeles sits 4 ½ games behind Texas in the AL West with June coming to a close, as the Halos and Rockies conclude their three-game set. Colorado is hanging tough inside the NL West, tied with San Francisco for third place only five games out.

Ervin Santana (7-5, 3.91 ERA) bounced back from consecutive tough starts to limit the Dodgers to three runs in seven innings of a 6-3 victory. The Angels improved to 5-2 in Santana's seven home starts with the win over the Dodgers, while striking out at least six batters in his fifth straight home outing. Santana has faced the Rockies just once in his career, falling 6-2 at home back in 2006 as a $1.40 favorite.

The Rockies send out rookie Jhoulys Chacin (4-6, 3.56 ERA), who has been involved in six consecutive one-run decisions, with Colorado going 2-4 in this stretch. Chacin has delivered only two quality starts in this span, but is coming off a 2-1 victory in his last outing against the Red Sox. The 'under' has cashed in five of Chacin's previous six starts, with the Rockies scoring three runs or less five times.

Colorado owns an 8-4 mark in day games on the road this season; however, five of those wins have come from the league leader in victories in Ubaldo Jimenez. The Angels have won four straight home games under the sun, while going 6-2 the last eight Game 3's at home.

Red Sox at Giants - 4:05 PM EST

A solid pitcher's duel is expected at AT&T Park in the series finale between a pair of Washington natives in Tim Lincecum and Jon Lester. The Giants and Sox have split the first two games after Boston held off San Francisco, 4-2 on Saturday.

Lincecum (8-2, 2.86 ERA) is back to his Cy Young-self after some struggles at the end of May. In June, Lincecum is 4-0, while allowing just seven earned runs to go along with 30 strikeouts. In this stretch, the Giants' ace has faced four of the weaker offenses in baseball, taking on the Pirates, A's, Orioles, and Astros - all clubs that rank in the bottom eight of runs scored in the league. San Francisco is 4-1 in Lincecum's last five interleague starts, as the righty faces the Red Sox for the first time in his career.

Lester (8-3, 3.03 ERA) is coming off a tough-luck loss to the Rockies his last time out, tossing six innings in a 2-1 defeat. The Red Sox have struggled when Lester starts as a road underdog, compiling a 2-9 mark since the start of last season in this role. However, Lester did pick up a 2-0 victory at Tampa Bay as a short road 'dog on May 25, his only outing this season in which he wasn't listed as a favorite.

San Francisco has dominated the American League at home by winning nine of the last 10 interleague matchups at AT&T Park. The 'over' has hit in five of Boston's previous six road contests.

Astros at Rangers - 8:05 PM EST

Thanks to the heat in the Lone Star State, these two rivals take the field when things cool down in Arlington. Texas pulled off a sweep of Houston at Minute Maid Park earlier this month, but the Astros exacted revenge by snapping the Rangers' 11-game winning streak on Friday night.

The clock is ticking on Roy Oswalt's (5-9, 3.08 ERA) time in Houston, as the Astros' ace tries to beat the Rangers for the first time since 2006. Oswalt hasn't faced Texas in two seasons, but the righty is 0-4 his last four times to the mound against this Rangers club. The veteran has pitched his best on the road this season, winning four of five starts to go along with a 1.50 ERA. Oswalt has been consistent in each of those outings, going at least seven innings in all five highway starts.

Tommy Hunter (3-0, 2.31 ERA) has taken care of his business at home, racking up three victories at Ameriquest Field. Hunter's last two wins at home are against also-rans in Seattle and Pittsburgh, but the righty did shut down the Rays in his first start of the season. The Rangers are 10-1 in Hunter's last 11 starts as a favorite dating back to last July.

The road team is 8-3 the previous 11 meetings in this series, including a 4-1 mark in 2010. Each club has cashed the 'over' in four of their past six games, while the 'over' has hit in three of five meetings this season.

Yankees at Dodgers - 8:05 PM EST

These two old rivals finish up the card at Chavez Ravine with New York trying to close out its West Coast swing with two series victories. The Dodgers have struggled recently by dropping seven of their past nine games, but rebounded with a solid offensive effort in Saturday's 9-4 triumph.

Each team sends out a solid left-handed arm with Andy Pettitte and Clayton Kershaw taking the hill. Pettitte (9-2, 2.48 ERA) has turned in nearly identical lines in each of his last four starts, allowing two earned runs and tossing at least seven innings (2-2). The veteran has been nearly automatic on the highway, owning a 3-0 mark and ERA of 1.96, while the 'under' has cashed four of five times.

Kershaw (7-4, 3.24 ERA) had a three-game winning streak snapped his last time out, giving up five earned runs in a 6-3 road setback to the Angels. The Dodgers are 4-0 in Kershaw's last four home starts, all quality outings. Kershaw hasn't performed well in interleague, with Los Angeles going 3-5 in his eight career starts against the American League.

The Yankees are 6-2 to the 'over' in road interleague action, while the Dodgers have been limited to three runs or less in four of the last six games.

      Lenox Industrial Tools 301

Over the last 4 weeks of NASCAR Sprint Cup series racing, we have seen four vastly different tracks and it continues this week with a visit to Loudon, New Hampshire’s flat one-mile track. Even though this is the first of two races to be held in Loudon this season, we can say that we have already seen the basics of this race run twice already this season.

Because of similar traits, performances run already this season at Phoenix and Richmond can be used as a great barometer into getting a head start for handicapping this weeks race. None of the tracks look alike in configuration, but because of the flat banking, many of the successful teams will be bringing the same chassis they did well with in those races to Loudon this week.

The driver with the most combined success this year at Phoenix and Richmond was Jeff Gordon, who probably should have won both, but finished second in each. It’s likely that if it had been the Gordon from 10 years ago, those would have been cinch wins, but even the Gordon of 10 years ago didn’t have to deal with green-white-checker finishes, the new late-race format where Gordon has yet to be the beneficiary of.

Gordon has yet to win in 2010 but is coming in this race with two straight top-five finishes and is currently fifth in points. His two runs at Phoenix and Richmond remain his best runs of the year. Over his career, Gordon is a three time winner at New Hampshire with his last coming in 1998. It seems like an eternity since that magical 13 win season of 1998. In more recent history, last season Gordon finished runner-up in this race and did the same in both 2007 races.

The one car Gordon may want to stay away from this week is Martin Truex Jr’s NAPA “Know-How” car. Last week at Sonoma, Gordon punted Truex Jr. early in the race after Truex Jr had fought his way into the top-5 with a very good car which resulted in Truex Jr losing several positions, and eventually caused him later to be involved in a wreck ending his day.

Truex Jr. vowed to get even with Gordon at Loudon with the “What goes around, comes around” theory. Gordon admitted he was wrong and apologized as much as he could, but Truex Jr didn’t seem to care much saying, “Of course he‘s sorry.”

Usually that type of talk and banter after a race is to be expected, but it’s rare to have a driver actually call the race he’s going to get even in, and in the this new age of NASCAR‘s relaxed stance on personality outbursts, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make good on his promise.

If Truex’s revenge scares you off what should be one of the top contenders, then how about taking a look at last weeks winner, Jimmie Johnson, who finished in the top-10 at both Phoenix and Richmond. Johnson moved up four positions in points with the win, thanks to dreadful days by Gibbs teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. Johnson is a two-time Loudon winner, with both coming in 2003.

Kyle Busch won at Richmond this year and fought hard to finish eighth at Phoenix. He won this race in 2006 and finished in the top-10 of both Loudon races last season.

Juan Pablo Montoya is an interesting look this week not only because he finished fifth at Phoenix and sixth at Richmond this year, but because he finished second in the fall Loudon race last year. Montoya didn’t make many friends last week at Sonoma either with his bully tactics, but he’s one to watch this week who should have some great value.

Mark Martin won the fall New Hampshire race last season and finished fourth at Phoenix this year, one of best runs of the season. He hasn’t had the same look of a winner like he did last season, but is still someone to take notice of. This week he'll be using the same chassis that he finished fourth in at Phoenix earlier this year.

Jeff Burton is the tracks all-time leader in wins with four and had a great run at Richmond with fourth-place. This week he'll be bring the same car that finished runner-up at Phoneix last year and fourth at Richmond in 2010.

      Top-5 Finish Prediction:
      1) #24 Jeff Gordon (8/1)
      2) #48 Jimmie Johnson (5/1)
      3) #18 Kyle Busch (7/1)
      4) #42 Juan Pablo Montoya (18/1)
      5) #31 Jeff Burton (20/1)

Rose takes 3-stroke lead at Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) -Justin Rose closed in on his second straight PGA Tour victory Saturday, shooting a 2-under 68 to take a three-stroke lead over Ben Curtis into the final round of the Travelers Championship.

Rose, the 29-year-old Englishman who won the Memorial three weeks ago but then failed to qualify for the U.S. Open, had a 16-under 194 total at TPC River Highlands after setting the tournament 36-hole record with rounds of 64 and 62.

``It was just a day when nothing went in on the greens at all,'' said Rose, a stroke off the best 54-hole total in tournament history. ``The tale of the day was that I made nothing on the greens. The longest putt I made was 4 feet, 10 inches for par on 17.

``So, I'm really happy to have a day like that on the greens and still shoot 68 and still maintain my lead.''

Curtis, the 2003 British Open champion, shot a 64. Vaughn Taylor (67) was 11 under, and Ricky Barnes (64), Scott McCarron (66), Brendon de Jonge (67), Bubba Watson (67), Matt Jones (68), Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin (69) and Bill Lunde (69) were 10 under.

Charlie Wi cut Rose's lead - four strokes after the first two days - to two early in the round, but that was as close as Wi or anyone else could get.

Rose birdied Nos. 5 and 6 to open a six-stroke lead before Curtis - seven strokes back at the start of the round - pulled within three with five back-nine birdies.

``I thought the start was key for me today,'' Rose said. ``I hit a lot of good shots early in my round. Birdies at 5 and 6 really felt like it got the round going and brought me back into the comfort zone.''

Rose drove into the water on the 13th hole en route to his first bogey in 37 holes.

``I had only one real bad swing - on the tee on 13,'' Rose said. ``There was a little bit of wait there. It was just a bit of a slack tee shot, I suppose. After that, I played really well. I bounced back well from the only bogey of the day.''

Curtis's big regret was that he didn't play the front nine as well as he did the back. His had eight pars and a birdie on the opening nine.

``I got off to a slower start today than I maybe wanted to,'' Curtis said. ``I just stayed patient and tried to keep hitting the greens and tried to make the putts and luckily, on the last nine holes, they kind of started going in.''

Rose's birdie on 15 stretched his lead back to three.

``I just got to keep playing aggressive when I need to and just keep hitting the greens and picking the right club,'' Curtis said. ``You know, it's one of those weeks when if you shoot par, you're going to go backward.''

Kerr up 8 strokes at LPGA Championship

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) -Holding an eight-stroke lead and 18 holes away from a second major title, Cristie Kerr wasn't about to declare victory in the LPGA Championship.

``I can sit here and say, `Give me the trophy now.' But it's not going to happen,'' Kerr said after shooting a 69 Saturday. ``I've got one more round of golf to play. There's one reason I'm sitting here and so far ahead at this point is because of the attitude I'm bringing.''

Kerr's focus was on display during a rain-soaked round at the Locust Hill Country Club, where she went to 13-under 203 entering the final round Sunday. Her advantage tops the previous largest entering the final round of the LPGA Championship - Mickey Wright led by seven in 1961 on her way to a title.

And Kerr fell just short of matching the largest 54-hole lead at an LPGA major set by Babe Zaharias, who had a 10-stroke lead at the 1954 U.S. Women's Open.

Mika Miyazato double-bogeyed No. 18 to finish at 72 and fall into a three-way tie for second with rookie Azahara Munoz and Jimin Kang after both finished with 70s in the LPGA Tour's second major of the year. The only others within 10 shots of Kerr are Song-Hee Kim, who shot a 69 Saturday, and Jiyai Shin (70), who are 4 under for the tournament; and American Karrie Webb (69) at 3-under 213.

Shin, the world's second-ranked player, is competing in her first tournament since an appendectomy two weeks ago.

Kang could only shrug when asked if there's a chance of catching Kerr.

``I've got nothing to lose but 18 holes to go,'' Kang said. ``That's all I can say.''

Miyazato's not conceding anything just yet, either.

Speaking through an interpreter, Miyazato said: ``If I keep my patience and endure to the last hole, then I am going to be able to catch up.''

There's even more on the line for Kerr should she win on Sunday.

Opening the week fifth in the world rankings, Kerr is in position to take over the No. 1 spot currently held by Ai Miyazato, who supplanted Shin by winning the ShopRite LPGA Classic last weekend. The LPGA announced that if Kerr wins, Miyazato would need to finish second overall to retain her ranking.

That's highly unlikely after Miyazato shot a 70 on Saturday to put her in a tie for 24th at 1 over for the tournament.

Kerr has an opportunity to become only the fifth player - and first American - to hold the top spot since the rankings were introduced in 2006.

``It would be great to get there. That's step one,'' said the 14-year tour veteran and 13-time tour winner. ``But then you have to prove it over and over again every week.''

Kerr's been on a roll all season. She's posted three top-three finishes, including winning the State Farm Classic two weeks ago.

This week, she's been nearly flawless since an opening 68 Thursday that put her in a three-way tie for first. Kerr opened Saturday ahead by five and eventually took control with three straight birdies on Nos. 11-13, and with the rain steadily falling.

The run happened immediately after Kerr hit into the trees and bogeyed the par-4 10th, while Miyazato birdied to inch to within three strokes of the lead.

Kerr responded with a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 11, followed with a 12-foot birdie on 12, and finished the surge with a 10-footer on No. 13. That put Kerr at 12-under for the tournament and moved her six strokes ahead of Miyazato.

Kerr explained she was motivated because of her poor play, not because of what Miyazato was doing.

``I was just mad that I bogeyed 10. I just got on a run,'' she said. ``I definitely want to keep the foot on the gas. It doesn't matter how many shot lead you have in golf, it's not enough.''

After a bogey-5 on No. 14, she came back with an 8-foot birdie on the par-3 15th.

Kerr had three bogeys on Saturday after producing just one in her first two rounds. She continues to dominate the back nine, which she is now playing at a combined 10-under 101 for the week.

With thunderstorms forecast to roll in early in the afternoon, officials moved up the tee times by 90 minutes, and had the players go off in threesomes and off both tees in a bid to squeeze in the third round. The rain began about noon, and grew heavier an hour later as the final group reached the 14th green.

With thundershowers forecast for Sunday evening, officials have moved up the start of the final round by two hours, with Kerr and Kang set to tee off at 12:40 p.m.

Only three Americans have won the past 13 majors - including Kerr's victory at the 2007 U.S. Women's Open.

``I'm happy I'm way ahead, and I am hoping to go further ahead,'' Kerr said. ``But I can't get ahead of myself.''

            Nick Faldo: Monty snubbing me

MUNICH (AP) -Former Europe captain Nick Faldo believes he is being ignored by successor Colin Montgomerie in the buildup to the Ryder Cup in October.

Faldo's haul in winning 25 points in 11 Ryder Cups is a record. He was also Europe captain in defeat at Valhalla two years ago.

However, during three days spent in Munich with Montgomerie at the BMW International Open this week, there has been no dialogue between the pair.

Faldo said that his attempts to contact this year's captain have drawn a blank.

``I didn't want just to make my views known to him through the media,'' said Faldo, who quit the German tournament on Friday after missing the cut.

``So I wrote to Monty three weeks ago suggesting we meet up for a chat, but I have not had a reply. I don't think I need say any more than that. It says it all.''

Asked about talking to Faldo, Montgomerie said: ``I think Nick missed out here so I don't know what he is doing.''

Meanwhile, Montgomerie has revealed he has undergone a small blood transfusion in Germany in an attempt to speed up his recovery from a torn calf muscle which threatens his appearance in the British Open at St. Andrews next month.

A doctor has injected the muscle with blood from a young cow.

``Apparently, the protein in it is a great healer,'' Montgomerie said. ``So now I am not shouting 'Fore!' on the golf course anymore, I am shouting 'Moo!'''

Woods, wife have options if they divorce

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -Questions about how a possible divorce between Tiger Woods and his wife would unfold have become the ultimate Internet guessing game.

How much could a settlement be? Where might a divorce be filed? When could it be filed? What would it entail? And on and on it goes in the muddled world of celebrity gossip.

In reality, the answers might not be so complex.

There are only so many ways to carry out a divorce settlement, experts say. The law provides guidelines that must be followed, and the couple has options to keep private some of the juicy details so many seem to crave.

The framework of when, where and how one of the biggest divorce settlements in history would go down might already be in place. There's even the possibility for the ultimate cliffhanger.

``They can keep most any information out of court if they're both in agreement,'' said attorney Raoul Felder, who handled the divorce for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Internet has been abuzz over a possible divorce ever since Woods crashed his SUV outside his central Florida home in November, setting off revelations that he was cheating on his wife, Elin. Should a divorce take place, according to several high-profile attorneys, there are a slew of options for both parties.

The couple, who have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, will likely divorce in Florida: It's where their two primary homes are. The state's laws also make it easier for Elin to file and, because there is no state income tax, claim the most money. Sweden, where she is from, has higher taxes and is not as favorable. The same goes for California, where they also own a home.

Florida is a ``no-fault'' state, which means parties don't need grounds for divorce - they only need to tell a judge that the marriage is ``irretrievably broken.'' Florida also has an ``equitable distribution'' law that requires courts to begin under the premise that assets would be divided equally.

But location is not guaranteed. Normally, the Woodses would file for divorce in their home counties of Orange or Martin, but if they both agree, they could likely file it any of Florida's 65 other counties in an attempt to keep it quiet, several divorce lawyers said.

Fellow golfer Greg Norman and tennis great Chris Evert, for example, filed for divorce in the Florida Keys, even though they had no home there.

``Courts recognize there's a balance of equity between the public's right to know and the privacy of a family. And because there are children involved, the court is always sort of a guardian of the children's best interests. Confidentiality is most likely even in Tiger's case,'' said attorney Mark Jay Heller, who represented Jon Gosselin of ``Jon & Kate Plus 8'' fame in his divorce.

Still, in any divorce involving a prominent celebrity or athlete isn't likely to stay quiet long - even if it's filed in a remote location.

Ira M. Elegant, a Miami-based lawyer who has represented Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez and NBA star Shaquille O'Neal in divorce proceedings, said Woods' camp would have a hard time fooling anyone over the venue.

``The first thing somebody in the clerk's office would do is pick up the phone, and it would probably get out by word of mouth before they even dialed,'' he said.

Limiting what's in the filing, experts say, would be Woods' best chance to keep details private.

In Florida, a financial affidavit and a child support worksheet - both requiring detailed assets and income statements - are among the documents that must be completed. There have been cases, however, where the court has allowed those numbers to remain blank.

There's also a possibility a judge could seal the filing in ``the best interests of the children.''

``It's like any case: It depends on the judge,'' Elegant said. ``If you can find a sympathetic judge, it's possible to keep a lot of information out of public record.''

The one thing everybody agrees on is that Elin is likely to walk away with a major pay day. It just might not be as much as some have speculated.

If there is no prenuptial agreement, she would be entitled to half of Woods' assets earned since they were married - not half of his net worth, which Forbes magazine estimated at $600 million last year. And because Woods made much of that fortune before their 2004 wedding, the amount could actually be much lower than those floating around celebrity gossip websites.

That doesn't mean her lawyers wouldn't go after as much as possible.

``There's also a fine line with being the victim and being greedy. You have to play your cards like a master poker player, because if she crosses that line public sympathy goes out the window,'' Felder said.

The protocol for each isn't tough to comprehend.

Orlando-based divorce attorney Mayanne Downs won one of the biggest settlements ever at more than $200 million, representing Bettie Siegel in her case against timeshare kingpin David Siegel. Her plan against Woods would be simple.

``If I was advising Elin,'' she said, ``my recommendation to her would be cash, cash, cash. See, Tiger is likely to continue to earn money in his career. She doesn't have that ability.''

And if she were advising Tiger?

``Get something done,'' Downs said, ``quickly and quietly.''

              That sentiment is widely shared.

Of course, speculating on any amount of money might be meaningless if there's a prenuptial agreement - something most wealthy people have. Although there are ways to get a court to dismiss the agreement, such contracts are usually ironclad.

``Tiger would almost certainly have a prenuptial agreement, and a strong one, or it's financial Armageddon,'' said attorney Jason Marks, who also has represented Rodriguez and the wife of former Tyco International CEO Dennis Kozlowski in divorce proceedings. ``But it's not unheard of that he wouldn't.''

There also is a confidentiality agreement in most settlements involving high-profile figures, meaning Elin and her attorneys would be penalized financially for publicly disclosing details. How long a divorce could take to settle is anyone's guess - anywhere from a couple days to a couple years.

Don't expect any comments from those involved, either.

Woods won't answer questions about his family, deeming the details private. A lawyer for Woods would not be able to comment publicly on an ongoing case because of attorney-client privileges.

So the public will just have to wait for more details until a divorce filing.

Unless a settlement is sitting in some far away place undiscovered.

That is, if they even divorce.
