Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic [ESPN | 8:30 PM ET]

Celtics: Boston appeared a bit disinterested and tired at the conclusion of Game 4. After coming back from a 7 point deficit late in regulation, the Celtics struggled in the overtime period. As a result, Boston missed out on sweeping the Magic out of the playoffs. Now Boston has to play at least 1 more game before punching their ticket to the NBA Finals. Boston shot .42% from the field in Game 4, as they only had 3 players score in double figures. F Paul Pierce and G Ray Allen combined for 54 PTS, including 5 three pointers. The only other Celtics player to score in double figures was Kevin Garnett, who had 14 PTS and 12 rebounds. Boston needs to focus on ending this series tonight, as they don't even want to consider becoming the 1st team in NBA history to blow a 3-0 series lead. The Celtics have played well on the Magic floor, as they've beaten them 3 times alone this year there. The Celtics are 61-36 SU and 44-51-2 ATS overall this year. Boston is 31-17 SU and 26-21-1 ATS in road games this season. The Celtics are 7-6 ATS this year as a road underdog between 3.5 and 6 PTS.

Celtics are 5-0 ATS last 5 games as an underdog.
Under is 10-2 last 12 against a team with a winning SU record.

Key Injuries - G Rajon Rondo (leg) is probable.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 87

Magic (-4, O/U 186): Orlando played a heroic game 4, as they fought hard when nobody expected them too. Credit Coach Van Gundy and the experience and professionalism of this Magic team for extending this series another game. Many Orlando fans believe they are back in this series, despite being down 3-1 in their best of 7 series. The Magic host 2 of the final 3 games during the Eastern Conference Finals. Orlando won game 4 in Boston 96-92 in overtime, with C Dwight Howard leading the way. Howard had a team high 32 PTS and 16 rebounds in Game 4, making 13 of his 19 shots. Howard was unstoppable in the paint, as he also contributed 4 blocked shots on the defensive end. PG Jameer Nelson contributed 23 PTS and 9 assists in helping the Magic extend the series. G J.J. Redick and F Matt Barnes contributed 22 PTS combined in Game 4, including 5 three pointers combined. Orlando is 68-26 SU and 54-38-2 ATS overall this season. The Magic are 38-9 SU and 26-19 ATS in home games this season. Orlando is 2-2 this season as the listed home favorite between 3.5 and 6 PTS.

Magic are 7-3-1 ATS last 11 games as a home favorite.
Under is 10-2 last 12 against a team with a winning SU record.

        Key Injuries - None.

PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (Side of the Day)

New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins [7:10 PM ET]

Yankees: New York is struggling for perhaps the very first time this entire season. The Yankees have lost 5 of their past 6 games, so it's going to be quite interesting to see how they handle the adversity. Their last series win was against their opponent today, the Minnesota Twins. New York struggled offensively against the Mets, as they scored 4 runs or fewer in all 3 contests. Through it all, the Yankees are still 26-18 on the season. New York would be the Wild Card representative in the American League if the playoffs started today. New York will send lefty Andy Pettitte to the mound today to oppose the Twins. Pettitte is 5-1 this year, with an ERA of 2.68 and a WHIP of 1.25. The Yankees are 2-5 in their last 7 road games against a left-handed starter. New York is 4-1 in Pettittes' last 5 road starts. The Yankees are 37-18 in Pettittes' last 55 starts against the American League Central.

Yankees are 2-5 last 7 road games against a team with a home winning percentage greater than .600%.
Under is 4-0 last 4 road games against a team with a winning record.

Key Injuries - CF Curtis Granderson (groin) is out.

          PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Twins (-113, O/U 9): After losing 3 straight games, Minnesota bounced back with a series win over the Brewers. The Twins are 26-18 overall this year, tied for the 2nd best record in the American League. Minnesota enjoys a nice home-field advantage, considering they are 14-7 at home this season. Minnesota is up 2.97 Units overall this year. Lefty Francisco Liriano will be the starting pitcher for Minnesota tonight. Liriano is 4-3 this year, with an ERA of 3.25 and a WHIP of 1.27. Minnesota has already faced the Yankees this season, losing 2 of the 3 games played in New York. The Twins are 42-15 in their last 57 home games against a left-handed starter. The Twins are 6-1 in Lirianos' last 7 starts with 5 days of rest. Minnesota is 1-5 in Lirianos' last 6 home starts against a team with a winning record. The Twins are 1-7 in Lirianos' last 8 starts against the American League East.

Twins are 24-9 last 33 home games.
Under is 8-3 last 11 home games.

Key Injuries - 2B Nick Punto (finger) is doubtful.

PROJECTED SCORE: 7(OVER - Total of the Day)

                13) My best two places to go on vacation: Las Vegas, Ocean City, MD. Ocean City has all-you-can-eat seafood, the beach, boardwalk, mini-golf. What more can you ask for?

                12) Best-ever non-Vegas vacation-- 16 days in Sweden, 1980, with bunch of college buddies. Good stuff.

                11) If I could have any meal I wanted, would have to choose between a pizza or chicken parmigian with side order of linguine.

                10) Best holiday: 1) Thanksgiving 2) New Year's Eve/New Year's Day.

                9) Best CDs for road trip: 1) Bob Seger's Greatest Hits 2) Van Morrison's Greatest Hits 3) Older disk of Billy Joel's Greatest Hits

                8) Best sports bar-- Graney's on New Scotland Ave in Albany-- 37 TVs, friendly people, good food, very attractive bartenders. This includes all the places I've been in Las Vegas, though I'm not done exploring there. I'll continue my research during the All-Star break at the Rio.

                7) My favorite sporting event of the year: March Madness, especially the first weekend.

                6) Best place to take out frustrations-- Whacking couple of buckets of balls at a driving range. Don't have to chase the bad shots, snack bar isn't very far away. Don't have to keep score. Just swing hard.

                5) Most fun I've ever had at a sporting event: January 2000: Rams 11, Tampa Bay 6 in NFC title game. Ricky Proehl's TD catch is the winner. Hugging people I didn't know in last row of dome. A very good day.

                4) Best teacher I had in high school: Mr Joe Botta, Industrial Arts. Still not sure why I was taking shop classes, but this man had the patience of Job in dealing with nitwits like me, trying to make a chessboard. Believe me, I am inept with tools, but with Mr Botta's help, my chessboard was not that bad. If only I could have half his patience.......

                3) Favorite Months: 1) December 2) March 3) July

                2) Best weekends of year: 1) First weekend of NCAA tournament 2) Thanksgiving weekend 3) First weekend of NFL season.

                1) Best piece of advice I've gotten this year: "If you think you're hungry, you're really thirsty." Its really helped me with my ongoing diet.

                  Len's Top 5

Happy Wednesday everyone, here's my Top 5 for May 26, 2010 from Len Berman.

                  1. Quick Hits

The Meadowlands will host the 2014 Super Bowl. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, apparently overcome with giddiness, predicted the Giants will play the Jets. The tooth fairy will handle the opening toss.
The Suns and Lakers are now tied at 2 games apiece after Phoenix wins game 4, 115-106. Even though Phoenix might win the series, President Obama picks the Lakers to beat the Celtics in the NBA finals.
Venus Williams easily advanced to the 3rd round of the French Open. She wore the same "lingerie dress" that she wore in her first round match. Presumably she had it washed between matches.

                  2. XLVIII

They will stage the first outdoor cold weather Super Bowl in the New Meadowlands Stadium in 2014. Subscriber Steve C. asks a good question on Facebook at "Len Berman's Top 5." He wonders what would happen if a major blizzard rolls in? Would they postpone the game? Play it with few fans in the stands? The truth is, this has little to do with the fans. The fans of the two teams in the game (assuming the Mayor is wrong and Giants and Jets don't make it), will spend several late January or early February days in New York/New Jersey. Yup, prime time for tourists indeed. Truthfully, this may be about naming rights for the new stadium. The Giants and Jets now have a better chance to cash in. More money to pour into the owners pockets. I'm sure that's why those people in Times Square were so excited about the announcement yesterday.

                  3. Who Cares?

Yesterday I talked about the "numbing down of America." Sports fans are so over-loaded or fed up with sports drug talk, they don't seem to care anymore. Here's a fabulous counter to that from a TV sports producer friend of mine. "Although many couldn't care less about the use of drugs in sports, it seems very important to send the message to young people that cheating, short cuts and the use of dangerous and illegal drugs are not acceptable and do have ramifications. Looking the other way doesn't seem a fitting answer. In our biz, we have to keep reporting and disregard that many people don't care."
                  Spot on.

                  4. Pet Peeve

This one's at the top of my list. If I were commissioner for a day, only winning teams would make the playoffs. Sorry Philadelphia Flyers. They'll be competing for Lord Stanley's Cup despite winning 41 of their 82 games. They weren't winners, so in my world they'd be out. But hey, everyone makes the playoffs (except the Rangers) right? At least these Flyers were better than the 1938 Chicago Blackhawks. They won the Stanley Cup despite winning only 14 of their 48 regular season games. They charged into the post season with a sterling winning percentage of .250.

                  5. Police Blotter

Former Yankee pitcher Hideki Irabu was arrested outside L.A.. Irabu is the pitcher who was famously called a 'fat toad' by George Steinbrenner. He was charged with drunk driving, or as it was listed on the police report, Mr. Toad's wild ride.

Happy Birthday: Sportscaster Brent Musburger. 71.
Bonus Birthday: Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz. 46.

Today in Sports: Harvey Haddix of Pittsburgh throws a 12 inning perfect game but loses 1-0 to Milwaukee in the 13th inning. 1959.
Bonus Event: The first intercollegiate bicycle race is held in Manhattan Beach, N.Y. A wheely big deal. 1896.
