Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns [TNT | 10:30 PM ET]

Nuggets: Denver has had an interesting month, as they clearly aren't playing their best basketball. Despite their recent struggles, the Nuggets have persevered and have won 4 of their past 5 contests SU. Over their past 14 games, the Nuggets only have 2 wins ATS in that span. Clearly Denver is a bit overrated from an oddsmakers standpoint. The turmoil surrounding Coach Karl certainly can't be helping much, as the Nuggets seem out of sorts with the playoffs looming. Denver will be looking to tie the season series tonight against the Suns, in a crucial game. Denver is 52-28 SU and 34-40-6 ATS overall this season. Denver has been held to 98 PTS or fewer in each of their past 4 games. Today represents the last game of the regular season for Denver, yet it carries so much importance. The Nuggets consider themselves a title contender, so they clearly want their absolute best seeding possible. Denver is 19-21 SU and 16-20-4 ATS away from home this season. The Nuggets have been successful in the underdog role this year, going 10-5 ATS this season. F Carmelo Anthony leads the Nuggets in scoring with 28.3 PPG, which also ranks him 3rd in the entire league.

Nuggets are 3-10-1 ATS last 14 games overall.
Under is 4-0 last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

Key Injuries - F Joey Graham (ankle) is questionable.
F Renaldo Balkman (back) is out.

              PROJECTED SCORE: 111

Suns (-6, O/U 216): Today easily represents one of the biggest regular season games in recent memory for Phoenix. The Suns are currently tied with both Denver and Utah for the 3rd seed in the Western Conference. The Suns have won 2 of the 3 meetings with Denver this season, while covering ATS in all 3 contests. The Suns have been the listed underdog in 2 of the 3 meetings this season. The Suns hosted the Nuggets at home on March 1st, and were only labeled as 2.5 favorites in that game. Phoenix has won 12 of their past 14 games SU, as they've been on a tear in the 2nd half of the season. Phoenix is 52-28 SU and 46-33-1 ATS overall this season. The Suns are 31-9 SU and 23-15-2 ATS in home games this season, including 6-2 ATS as a home favorite between 3.5 and 6 PTS. Phoenix is 17-4 ATS this season against teams that allow more than 99 PPG this season. 5 different Suns players average more than 11 PPG this season, led by F Amar'e Stoudemire. Stoudemire is averaging team highs of 23.1 PPG and 9 RPG this season for Phoenix. PG Steve Nash is having yet another MVP caliber season, as he leads the entire NBA with 11 APG this year.

Suns are 8-0-1 ATS last 9 games as a home favorite of 5 to 10.5 points.
Under is 14-6 last 20 games vs. a team with a winning percentage above .600%.

Key Injuries - C Robin Lopez (back) is out.

PROJECTED SCORE: 114 (OVER - Total of the Day)

Los Angeles Angels at New York Yankees [1:05 PM ET]

Anaheim: Anaheim was expected to have a down year this season, and they've done nothing to prove their critics wrong. After winning their opening game, the Angels have lost 5 of their last 6 games. Anaheim is 2-5 this year as they head out for their first road trip of the season. The Angels need to focus, as they've struggled of late against the Yankees. The Angels are only 3-8 on the road against the Yankees over the past 3 seasons. Ervin Santana will look to rebound from merely an average debut this season. Much is expected of Santana this season, as many in the organization hope he turns out to be the ace of this pitching staff. Santana gave up 4 runs in 6 innings against the Twins in losing his season debut. The Angels are a perfect 4-0 the past 4 times Santana has started a road contest as the listed underdog. The Angels need to get their offense on track, as they've only scored more than 4 runs once this season.

Angels are 9-3 last 12 games as a road underdog of +110 to +150.
Under is 6-1 last 7 games as a road underdog.

Key Injuries - CF Reggie Willits (hamstring) is out.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Yankees (-170, O/U 10): It will be a joyous environment today in New York, as the Yankees will receive their World Series rings for last years championship. The Yankees will certainly be excited for not only their ring celebration, but also to prove their worthiness. SS Derek Jeter, C Jorge Posada, and CL Mariano Rivera will receive their 5th World Series rings today, quite an achievement. The Yankees are 4-2 this season, with a chance to win 3 consecutive games for the 1st time this season. The Yankees bats have woken up, as they've scored 17 runs over their past 2 games as they head into their home opener this year. Andy Pettitte will be on the mound today, trying to follow up his strong performance against the Red Sox in his 1st start of the season. Pettitte pitched well against the Angels last year, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. The Yankees have played to the over in 9 of their past 10 contests. The Yankees are 39-9 in Pettitte's last 48 starts as a home favorite of -151 to -200.
                .

Yankees are 41-10 last 51 home games.
Over is 9-1 last 10 overall.

                Key Injuries - None.

PROJECTED SCORE: 7 (Side of the Day)

                  Tuesday six-pack

-- Sad to read the Derrick Coleman is $5M in debt-- he made $87M in his playing career. How can you blow that much money?

-- Astros are now 0-7; last major league team to start season with six home losses and finish with a winning record? The 1983 Astros.

-- Was Monday's Pirate-Giant game the first ever between starting Ps whose numbers are both in the 70's?

-- Jamie Moyer is oldest starting pitcher in history of major leagues to win a game who didn't throw a knuckleball.

-- Padres scored 19 runs on season-opening six-game road trip-- they beat the Braves 17-2 in their home opener at Petco Monday.

-- No truth to rumor that Oregon wants to interview John Wooden for its basketball coaching opening. They've heard he has a good record.

                  ************************************************** ***************

Tuesday's List of 13: Clearing out a cluttered mind.......

                  13) Stan Kreonke loves sports and is really rich; he owns the Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche, as well as 40% of the Rams. He had the right of first refusal to buy remaining 60% of the team from Georgia Frontiere's family, and Monday he surprised a lot of people by exercising that right. Seeing as Kreonke lives in Columbia (his son played hoops for Missouri a few years ago), it looks good for the Rams staying in St Louis.

                  12) There is an NFL rule against an person owning NFL team in one city and other pro franchises in other cities, but Kreonke is married to one of Sam Walton's granddaughters (heirs to WalMart fortune), which is going to be a loophole to get him around that rule, from what I read, since they have an incredible amount of money. As a Ram fan, I'm happy. Dude's a billionaire and loves sports. Now lets get Sam Bradford signed.

                  11) Speaking of which, not only was Bradford a terrific HS QB, he was all-state on the basketball court, playing travel ball with Blake Griffin. Bradford got his degree in finance from Oklahoma in 3.5 years, in program that usually takes five years to finish. In a few weeks, he's going to need that finance degree, because he's going to be very wealthy.

                  10) That said, no one know what'll happen when his shoulder gets hit; no amount of Sam Walton's money can change that. Drafting is a crapshoot, for sure, but Bradford looks like he has the stuff of a franchise QB.

                  9) Weird stat; When lefty Jaime Garcia won for St Louis Saturday, the Cardinals ended a 586-game streak of not having had a lefty starter get a win. Last one before Garcia was Mark Mulder back in June 2006.

                  8) Last team to start season 0-6 and make playoffs: the '95 Reds.

                  7) Don't like how the Jets are assembling their team. Too many questions in the character department. Lets not forget the only reason they made it to playoffs LY was because the Colts tanked a game in Week 16. I could easily be wrong, but how many teams have tried a quick fix and failed?

                  6) Not that we needed another bowl game, but Little Caesar's Bowl is in Detroit this December, with #8 Big 11 team playing #1 or #2 MAC club. MAC kids aren't going to be thrilled about a bowl in Detroit and why is the 8th-place finisher in an 11-team league going bowling? If there is no Big 11 team eligible, a Sun Belt team takes their place.

                  5) Could the winners of Little Caesar's Bowl and Papajohn's Bowl play? You would think that game would make a lot of......dough.

                  4) Stanford had a great idea for its spring football game; coaches drafted the two teams and played that way, rather than first team against second. No surprise that star QB Andrew Luck was the first player drafted.

                  3) Young pitching sensations Strasburg/Chapman both had strong debuts in the minor leagues. Chapman probably gets to the big leagues first.

                  2) This is only third time since 1918, yes the third time since 1918 that the Phillies started out 5-1 or better. Thats kind of hard to believe, but it is true. Nationals are going to be glad to get away from these Phillies.

                  1) Justin Duchscherer allowed four baserunners in 7.1 shutout innings, as the first-place A's won 4-0 in Seattle. Oakland is 6-2 and getting terrific pitching with timely hitting. Tough combination to beat.

                    Len's Top 5

Happy Tuesday everyone, here's my Top 5 for April 13, 2010 from Len Berman.

                    1. Quick Hits

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not face sexual assault charges in Georgia. But nobody comes off looking good when the district attorney says the alleged crime happened in a "small dingy bathroom."
Off to a great start. One day after being acquired by the Jets, wide receiver Santonio Holmes is suspended for the first 4 games of the season for drugs.
The Yankees receive their championship rings today when they host Hideki Matsui and the Angels in the Yankees home opener.
Is anyone all misty-eyed that the Nets, after 29 seasons, played their last game last night in the Meadowlands? (They lost.) Their plan? Newark then Brooklyn.

                    2. Bonds Rating

Barry Bonds emerged from hiding and told the media that he is proud of Mark McGwire for admitting his steroid use and returning to baseball as a coach. A nice endorsement from one supposed drug cheat to another. Call it honor among thieves. But the truth is, McGwire is getting good grades for his reimmersion into the game. He got a standing ovation at the Cards home opener yesterday. Makes you wonder if Bonds could make a similar leap? Then again, at age 45, he still hasn't announced his retirement as a player. Wonder if anyone is proud of him?

                    3. Fuzzy Math

Subscriber Christopher G. has a brain teaser. If you buy 2 Mets tickets on line for $11.00 each, why is your bill $35.00? Easy. A $4.00 fee for each ticket, and then a $5.00 "order fee" on top of that. Christopher asks a good question. Why does he have to pay fees when he's buying from the source and using his own ink to print the tickets? Then he asks a better question. Whatever happened to truth in advertising? If you advertise $11.00 tickets, then charge $11.00, not $17.50.
What? You want the truth is pro sports? What's wrong with you?

                    4. Legalese

A junior hockey player in Canada was found not guilty of assault. He was drunk, punched a door, which then hit his ex-girlfriend breaking her nose. He claimed he didn't know the woman was there. The judge agreed, but said "If he was charged with being a colossal asshole, I would find him guilty." That's a direct quote from the court records. Wow. If we could really pin that charge on pro athletes, would we have enough jail space?

                    5. Gimme A 'P'

Another heartwarming cheerleading story out of Texas. Some girls on a high school cheerleading squad got in trouble for giving teammates soft drinks that were laced with urine.
                    Piss boom bah!

Happy Birthday: Chess player (is that an athlete?) Garry Kasparov. 47.
Bonus Birthday: Wally! Actor Tony Dow from Leave it to Beaver. 65.

Today in Sports: Tiger Woods, at age 21, becomes the youngest to win the Masters. 1997.
Bonus Event: Yankee fans receive "Reggie! Bars" at the home opener. They proceed to shower them onto the field after he hits a first inning homer. 1978.
