Detroit Pistons at Cleveland Cavaliers [ESPN | 7:00 PM ET]

Pistons: This has been nothing short of a forgetable season for Detroit, as they are one of the worst teams in the NBA. Detroit is 21-40 SU this season, including SU losers of their past 5 games. The Pistons gave up a season high 128 points to the Knicks in their last game. Detroit has struggled against Cleveland, as they simply don't have an answer for LeBron James. In their only other meeting this season, Detroit allowed James to score 34 PTS as the Pistons lost by 10 PTS at home. Detroit hasn't been any better on the road, as they are 7-23 SU and 12-17-1 ATS this season. The Pistons are 16-23-1 ATS as the listed underdog this season, including 3-3 ATS as a double digit underdog. The revenge factor doesn't really apply to Detroit, as they are only 4-11 ATS revenging a home SU loss this season. 5 different Pistons players average double digits this season, led by G Richard Hamilton. Hamilton averages 18.7 PPG this season, but only shoots 40% from the field. In fact, only F Tayshaun Prince shoots better than 43% of the 5 players averaging double figures.

Pistons are 5-13 ATS last 18 games as a road underdog.
Over is 6-1 last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % greater than .600.

Key Injuries - C Chris Wilcox (back) is questionable.
C Ben Wallace (knee) is questionable.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 95

Cavaliers (-13, O/U 199): Cleveland has enjoyed enormous success this season, similar to the success they've had against Detroit of late. Cleveland has won the past 8 meetings SU with Detroit. Cleveland is 48-14 SU this season, the best record in the entire NBA. Cleveland is 26-4 SU and 13-17 ATS in home games this season. The Cavaliers are 9-13 ATS as a double digit favorite this season. Cleveland is 11-6 ATS over their past 17 games, including ATS winners of 4 consecutive games. The Cavaliers have been putting up monster offensive numbers of late, scoring 105 PTS or more in each of their past 5 games. For the season, Cleveland averages 102.7 PPG. F LeBron James leads the NBA in scoring at 29.8 PPG this season. What many people don't realize is James is 6th in the NBA in assists, averaging 8.6 APG this season. F Antawn Jamison has been a nice addition for Cleveland, averaging 15 PPG and 8 RPG. However, Jamison has struggled with his shooting behind the arc, making only 22% of his 3 pointers so far for the Cavs.

Cavaliers are 4-0 ATS last 4 vs. Eastern Conference.
Over is 10-1-1 last 12 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.

Key Injuries - C Shaquille O'Neal (thumb) is out.
G Delonte West (finger) is questionable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 116 (SIDE of the Day)

New Orleans Hornets at San Antonio Spurs [ESPN | 9:30 PM ET]

Hornets: The last team New Orleans wants to face right now is San Antonio, as they've lost all 3 meetings SU this season to the Spurs. New Orleans had been working their way up the conference standings, trying to get the last spot in the Western Conference playoff standings. Unfortunately the Hornets have lost 5 of their past 6 games to fall back into mediocrity. The Hornets are 31-31 SU this season, placing them 10th in the Western Conference, 5 games behind the magical #8 seed. The Hornets are 11-20 SU and 16-15 ATS on the road this season. The Hornets are a profitable 21-15 ATS as the listed underdog this season. No player epitomizes the underdog role more than PG Darren Collison. Collison is averaging more than 22 PPG in his past 12 games filling in for All Star PG Chris Paul. Collison is playing like a true veteran, leading his team with poise and savvy. Collison has been getting his teammates involved as well, as he has 29 assists in his past 2 games combined. The Hornets have been playing from behind of late, allowing 29.2 first quarter PTS in their past 6 games.

Hornets are 9-1-1 ATS last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Over is 8-1 last 9 road games.

Key Injuries - G Chris Paul (knee) is out.
F Sean Marks (shoulder) is out.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 100

Spurs (-8, O/U 197): San Antonio has won 3 of their past 4 games SU, and many people think this is the beginning of their annual playoff push. Year after year it seems like San Antonio goes on a large winning streak in the 2nd half of the season. The Spurs were very inconsistent to start the season, yet they are still a solid 34-24 SU this year. If the playoffs started today, the Spurs would be the #7 seed in the competitve Western Conference. The Spurs are 21-10 SU and 16-14-1 ATS at home this season. The Spurs are 18-20 ATS as a single digit favorite this season. San Antonio hasn't won 3 straight games ATS since January 13th. The Spurs have scored more than 100 PTS in 4 of their past 5 games entering tonight. San Antonio has scored more than 105 PTS in 2 of the 3 meetings against the Hornets this season. F Tim Duncan is having one of his best statistical seasons of his career, averaging 19.2 PPG and 11 RPG this season. G George Hill have been a savior for the Spurs, averaging nearly 12 PPG filling in for injured Guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli.

Spurs are 1-6 ATS last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Over is 5-1 last 6 games as a favorite.

Key Injuries - G Keith Bogans (finger) is probable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 105 (OVER - Total of the Day)

                            Len's Top 5

TGIF everyone, here's my Top 5 for March 5, 2010 from Len Berman.

                            1. Quick Hits

NFL free agency began at midnight. A bull market isn't expected.
The Jets traded for San Diego defensive back Antonio Cromartie. He's been spotty on and off the field.
The Phillies beat the Yankees 3-2 in a World Series rematch of sorts.
Tiger Woods' caddy, Steve Williams, says he didn't know anything about Woods' affairs. Presumably Williams said it with a straight face.

                            2. Would You Buy A Used Car From This Man?

Look who is back in business. Former Met Lenny Dykstra. He'll sell you stock tips along with an autographed baseball for $999. Don't let the fact that he filed for bankruptcy and had his home foreclosed cloud your thinking.

                            3. Worth-Less

A few of you wondered what Babe Ruth's record $70,000 contract in 1927 would be worth today? Subscriber Jim S. forwarded this web site that lets you calculate buying power in terms of today's dollars. It turns out $70,000 in 1927 buys you $850,000 worth of stuff today. Basically a 1927 Babe Ruth is worth a 2010 Brett Gardner. And remember, in 1927 Babe Ruth hit 60 homers. He was clearly a bargain.

                            4. Friday eMailbag

D.H. wanted to vent. "It really bugs me when people compare what they've seen these past couple of weeks (Olympic hockey) with the NHL. When you are playing an 82 game regular season, not every game can be great and have great meaning."

And R.M. added, "Baseball should take a look at the gold medal hockey TV ratings and try something novel like an afternoon World Series game. You never know, people just may watch."

When I mentioned that A-Rod and Tiger were mixed up with a doctor being investigated in Canada, S.S. commented on Facebook at Len Berman's Top 5, "And they wonder why TMZ is getting in the sports biz?"
Editor's Note: Great point. Athlete's beware!

M.T. tweeted me @LenBermanSports, " Isn't it nice New York fans have a team in orange and blue that is No. 1? No, not the Knicks...not the Mets...THE CUSE!"
Editor's Note: The fact that I went to Syracuse, and we're.... I mean, they're #1, has absolutely nothing to do with me printing this.

                            5. Parting Thought

Let's end the week with a cool idea sent along by Top 5 subscriber Rod. He hates the dousing of the Olympic flame. He says it's "a downer and the wrong symbolism." He thinks the flame should never go out. "The right way to end the games would be to return the flame to the torch by which it came, now held by an unknown youngster or perhaps by a promising next Olympian, who runs off and disappears into the night, headed ostensibly for the next Olympic Games."
I can hear the music swell as millions reach for a Kleenex. Thanks Rod for turning today's Top 5 into a chick flick.

Happy Birthday: Four-time Super Bowl champion running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rocky Bleier. 64.
Bonus Birthday: Penn Jillette. He's the one who talks in the Penn and Teller act. 55.

Today in Sports: A Buffalo man named Frank Caruana became the first to bowl two consecutive perfect games. 1924.
Bonus Event: The Boston Massacre. (The one that didn't involve the Yankees beating the Red Sox.) 1770.
