Villanova Wildcats at Cincinnati Bearcats [ESPN2 | 7:00 PM ET]

Wildcats (-3, O/U 149): Villanova has hit the roughest part of their season, as they've lost 3 of their past 4 games SU. 2 of those 3 SU losses came as the listed favorite, making the Wildcats losers of 6 of their past 8 games ATS. Despite the recent SU slide, Villanova is still 23-5 SU and ranked #9 in the nation. That #9 ranking is the lowest Villanova has been ranked in the polls all season long. Villanova averages nearly 84 PPG this season, yet hasn't scored more than 77 PTS in their past 4 contests. The Wildcats are 11-4 SU and 9-6 ATS both in true road games and neutral court settings this season. The Wildcats are 6-4 ATS as a single digit favorite this season. Villanova has allowed 5 of their past 7 opponents to score at least 75 PTS against them. G Scottie Reynolds is easily one of the best players in not only the Big East conference but also the entire country. Reynolds leads 3 different Wildcats averaging double digits in PTS this season, averaging nearly 19 PPG. Reynolds is a sharpshooter, as he shoots nearly 49% from the field and 83% from the free throw line this season.

Bearcats: Cincinnati has lost 5 of their past 7 games SU, and their NCAA Tournament bubble is nearly burst. Cincinnati must win both their games this week SU and then do some damage in the Big East tournament to have anyu chance of playing in the Big Dance. The Bearcats are playing their final home game of the season, and will say goodbye to senior G Deonta Vaughn. Vaughn has averaged 11.3 PPG this season, trailing only G Lance Stephenson for the team lead in scoring. Vaughn has started 116 games for the Bearcats in his career, and is 4th in PTS in Bearcats history. Cincinnati is 12-3 SU and 1-9 ATS in home games this season. Vanderbilt Commodores at Florida Gators [ESPN | 7:00 PM ET]

Commodores: Vanderbilt is playing exceptionally good basketball right now, as they've won 5 of their past 6 games SU. Their lone loss of late was a 2 point loss to Kentucky, the #2 team in the country. The Commodores are averaging nearly 87 PPG in those 5 recent wins. Vanderbilt is 11-3 SU in conference play this season, placing them 2nd in the SEC East division. A SU win in either of their final 2 regular season games will earn them a bye in the SEC Conference Tournament. Vandy is 22-6 SU this season, earning them a #19 national ranking. The Commodores have all but punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament this season, in what will be their 3rd appearance in the past 4 seasons. Vandy will have their work cut out for them tonight, as they haven't won at Florida since the 2000-2001 season. The Commodores are 6-3 both SU and ATS on the road this season. Gators (-2.5, O/U 146.5): It will be interesting to see how Florida responds to their hearbreakening loss to Georgia 3 days ago. Florida lost 76-78 at Georgia as 2 point favorites. That SU loss broke a 3 game conference winning streak for the Gators. Florida is 20-9 SU this season, including 9-5 SU in conference play. The Gators are 13-3 SU and 6-6 ATS at home this season. Florida is 4-5 ATS as a single digit favorite this season. The Gators have some revenge tonight, as they lost by 8 PTS earlier this year to Vanderbilt as 5.5 underdogs. Tuesday's List of 13: Clearing out a cluttered mind........

                      13) Tough job for NHL coaches this week, getting their teams back after the Olympics; how about the guy coaching the Blackhawks, whose two best players were on opposite sides of Sunday's final? Emotions can run high-- you'd figure it'll be an issue with at least a team or two.

                      12) Hard to believe NHL guys won't be in the 2014 Olympics; its such a great showcase for a sport that needs one. Logistics of starting/stopping the season will be tough with Olympics in Russia, but so be it.

                      11) Marquette won its last three games, all in overtime; their nine games on the Big East road were decided by a total of only 19 points.

                      10) Shaquille O'Neal is out 6-8 weeks with a broken thumb; Cavs didn't exactly miss him against the woeful Knicks, leading by 49 at one point in a 31-point debacle. Have to think Cleveland brass had to enjoy running it up on a Knick team that will be trying to steal Lebron from them.

                      9) Funny listening to Phoenix Open golf this week; announcers said more than once that all putts on that course break towards downtown Phoenix. I'm sure its true, it just sounded funny-- you see guy lining up a putt and he's looking for skyscrapers.

                      8) 258 medals were given out in 86 Olympic sports.

                      7) There is kid on Iowa Hawkeyes named Devan Bawinkel who's made 31 of 79 beyond arc (39%) which is really good; the kid is 2-4 from foul line and has yet to take a 2-point shot this season. Now thats a specialist.

                      6) Sportsbook.com took wagering last week on Tim Tebow's time in the 40-yard dash at the Combine; 4.82 was the over/under. Tebow ran a 4.72.

                      5) Its pretty sad that spring training is just starting and Sporting News is running a big article on Padres' 1B Adrian Gonzalez, with whole theme of the article being how Gonzalez is going to get traded to a big market team.

                      4) On Hank Haney's reality show, actor Brad Garrett bet Haney $10,000 (for charity) he couldn't get Ray Romano where he could break 80. Haney may look like a professor, but his wife is, lets say.........very impressive. Good program on the Golf Channel.

                      3) Word of caution on Nationals' pitching phenom Steven Strasburg; was reading this weekend where he gave up 10 runs in one start in the Arizona Fall League, giving up seven runs in one inning. They say he has superior stuff, but he'll need some work before he's successful in big leagues.

                      2) Three conference tournaments start Tuesday night, as March Madness is underway; enjoy it-- its my favorite time of year.

                      1) You have to go to YouTube and find a clip of Davidson beating Elon in double OT Saturday; Wildcats scored six points in the last two seconds, making a trey with 0:01.9 left, then stealing inbounds pass and hitting the game-winning 3-pointer at buzzer. Rossiter kid, whose brother is terrific player for Siena, made the game-winning shot. Go take a look at it.

                        Len's Top 5

Happy Tuesday everyone, here's my Top 5 for March 2, 2010 from Len Berman.

                        1. Quick Hits

Alex Rodriguez will be interviewed by the FBI concerning a Canadian doctor who also treated Tiger Woods. The doctor is being investigated for drug violations.
Spring training baseball games begin today. There is one game scheduled between Major League teams. The Mets host the Braves.
That didn't take long. The NHL season resumed last night with Detroit beating Colorado 3-2.
No country for old running backs. 31-year old Thomas Jones of the Jets is the latest to receive his walking papers.
LeBron James told a Cleveland paper that he has filed paperwork to change his number from 23 to 6 next season. Discuss among yourselves.
New Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan showed up at practice yesterday and promptly lost two games of H-O-R-S-E to Gerald Henderson. Jordan did hit a free throw with his eyes closed.

                        2. Rave Reviews

The ratings went through the roof for the U.S. Canada hockey game. A whopping 17.6 in the U.S. Despite airing in the afternoon, it surpassed every World Series game since 2004. In Canada, it was the highest rated TV show of any kind all time! Top 5 subscriber Lucinda H. emailed "I was driving to Cape Cod listening to the game on the radio. At one point I looked down at my speedometer and I was doing 85!!!! This is what sports is all about! It was the best ride to the Cape I've had in years!!!!"
Every so often an event comes along that reminds us why we love sports so much. Sunday's hockey game was one of those moments.

                        3. The Other Shoe Drops

Well they are not basking in Olympic afterglow in Russia. Seems their team was a flop and the big wigs aren't happy. President Dmitry Medvedev has demanded that Russian Olympic officials step down in disgrace. And if they don't resign then the decision "will be made for them." Ooh. On the bright side, the next Siberian Games should be a lot more competitive.

                        4. Not So Super

OK, I'm a native New Yorker. Yes, I think New York is the capital of the universe. No, I don't think we need to host the Super Bowl in 2014. There are those who believe it's going to happen now that Arizona has bowed out. But do fans really need to spend a grand for a ticket and then freeze their buns off? Hey, we're New York. The fashion, financial, advertising, media.....you name it.... center of the world. We don't need a Super Bowl to validate our sports existence. At least, not until we can figure out a way to bring pro basketball back to the New York area.

                        5. Tusk Tusk

They hired an elephant in India for a wedding ceremony. But the elephant went on a rampage trying to reach a female elephant. At one point he crushed 20 limos and even tried to mate with a truck. The elephant is expected to check himself into a sex addiction rehab clinic, prior of course, to an appearance on Oprah.

Happy Birthday: Saints Super Bowl champion running back Reggie Bush. 25.
Bonus Birthday: Musician Jon Bon Jovi. 48.

Today in Sports: Wilt Chamberlain scores 100 points in a game against the Knicks, featured in my kids book (with audio) "The Greatest Moments in Sports." 1962.
Bonus Event: The Babe signs a 3-year contract making him the highest paid player in baseball. $70-thousand a year. 1927.
