Denver Nuggets at Cleveland Cavaliers [TNT | 8:00 PM ET]

Nuggets: Denver starts the 2nd half of the season in a bit of shock. Denver enters the 2nd half of the season with the 2nd best record in the Western Conference at 35-18 SU. However, Coach George Karl just announced he has throat snd neck cancer, forcing him to miss some to be determined games. This news came as a shock to his team, but will likely have them playing focused and hard for their coach. The Nuggets have alternated wins and losses since the beginning of February, going 3-3 SU in that span. The Nuggets are 12-13 SU and 10-13-2 ATS on the road this season. The Nuggets are 7-5 SU and 6-3-2 ATS as the listed underdog this season. Denver has only won back to back games ATS once since December 7th. Denver averages over 107 PPG, the 3rd most in the NBA. F Carmelo Anthony leads the Nuggets in scoring and is 3rd in the NBA with 29.2 PPG this season. PG Chauncey Billups averages 19.5 PPG and a team high 6.2 APG this season for Denver.

Nuggets are 10-1-1 ATS last 12 games playing on 3 or more days rest.
Under is 10-4 last 14 games as a road underdog.

Key Injuries - F Kenyon Martin (knee) is questionable.
F Renaldo Balkman (back) is questionable.

      PROJECTED SCORE: 96

Cavaliers (-6, O/U 206): Cleveland enters the 2nd half of the season with the overall best record in the NBA, 43-11 SU. The Cavaliers just announced a trade this evening, acquiring F Antawn Jamison from the Wizards. The rich get richer, and the Cavaliers appear to be the overwhelming choice to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Cleveland is 24-3 SU and 12-15 ATS at home this season. The Cavaliers are 15-13 ATS a single digit favorite this season. Cleveland has surged into the best record in the NBA thanks to a franchise tying 13 game SU winning streak that is currently active. The Cavaliers have struggled recently to the Nuggets, as they've lost 4 of the past 6 meetings SU at home to the Nuggets. The Cavs also lost earlier this year to the Nuggets, 97-99 as 4 point favorites. F Lebron James leads the NBA in scoring with 29.9 PPG this season. James has been simply amazing his last 6 games, averaging 33.5 PPG and 11 APG.

Cavaliers are 12-4 ATS last 16 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Over is 6-1-1 last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

Key Injuries - G Mo Williams (shoulder) is out.
F Leon Powe (knee) is out.

PROJECTED SCORE: 102 (UNDER - Total of the Day)

        Tips and Trends
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Syracuse Orange at Georgetown Hoyas [ESPN | 7:00 PM ET]

Orange: 5th ranked Syracuse lost SU for only the 2nd time this season, falling at home as 7.5 favorites to Louisville. Syracuse is an impressive 24-2 SU and 15-7 ATS this season. Arguably the most impressive stat for the Orange this season is the fact that they have a perfect record away from home. Syracuse is 9-0 SU and 8-1 ATS in both true road games and neutral court settings this seasons. Syracuse is the only team left in the nation that doesn't have a SU road loss this season. The Orange are a perfect 3-0 both SU and ATS as the listed underdog this season. Syracuse averages 80.8 PPG this season, but have been held under that average in 6 of their past 7 games. The Orange lead the nation in FG percentage, shooting 52.2% as a team. 4 different Orange players average double digits in PTS this season, led by F Wesley Johnson. Johnson averages 16 PPG this season, but is really struggling of late. Johnson is shooting less that 29% over his past 6 games, and has seen his scoring average dip 6 PTS.

Syracuse is 7-0 ATS last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % greater than .600.
Under is 6-0 last 6 road games.

        Key Injuries - None.

PROJECTED SCORE: 76 (SIDE of the Day)

Hoyas (-1, O/U 146): Georgetown has some revenge on their minds tonight, as they lost by double digits to Syracuse 3 weeks ago. They are also coming off a SU loss in their last game as a double digit favorite. The Hoyas are ranked 10th in the nation thanks to an 18-6 SU record. Georgetown is 11-2 SU and 5-5 ATS at home this season. The Hoyas are 6-2 ATS as a single digit favorite this season. Today marks the smallest amount of PTS the Hoyas have been favored by at home all season long. The Hoyas have yet to win more than 2 games in a row ATS this entire season. Georgetown is looking to beat their 3rd top 10 opponent at home this season. With a SU win tonight, the Hoyas would be the only team in the nation with 7 SU wins against top 25 ranked teams. 3 different Hoyas average at least 14 PPG for the Hoyas this season. C Greg Monroe averages 15.5 PPG and a team high 9.5 RPG this season. Georgetown is 16-0 SU when G Chris Wright scores in double figures this season.

Hoyas are 4-1 ATS last 5 home games.
Over is 5-1 last 6 home games.

Key Injuries - F Nikita Mescheriakov (personal) is out.

        PROJECTED SCORE: 72

          Thursday six-pack

-- Jets built a $75M practice facility in Florham Park, NJ, so of course they want to squeeze $200,000 out of the state of New York so they can hold training camp in Cortland (south of Syracuse). Eeesh.

-- When there is a runner on second base and the batter singles, runner scores from second an average of 58% of the time.

-- Paul Westhead, whose fast-paced style lad LMU in the Elite Eight 20 years ago, is now coaching women's ball at Oregon; Lady Ducks are 7-5 in Pac-10, 16-8 overall, scoring 80+ points in last six games.

-- If I'm an AD at a school with D-I men's hoops, no way do I let this guy coach women's ball; his style is appealing and it wins, because it is easier to recruit with a fast style of play.

-- Sadie the Scottish terrier won the dog show in New York City.

-- Craig Hentrich retired after a 17-year career as an NFL punter; he had 1,150 punts

          ************************************************** ******************************************

Thursday's List of 13: Wrapping up a lot of college hoop stuff

          13) Felt bad for Nebraska, Notre Dame kids who went on road, played their hearts out but came up short in very tough losses as big underdogs. Cornhuskers seem especially snake-bitten.

          12) That thud you heard was Northwestern falling off the bubble after they lost by 11 at home to Penn State, which got its first Big 11 win.

          11) Have to mention BYU's Jimmer Fredette, who had 36 points, with five rebounds, six assists at Colorado State; this kid is from Glens Falls, a small town 45 miles north of me here in upstate New York. He is a smart, tough kid, a wonderful player who was well-coached in high school and is on his way to an NBA roster two years from now.

          10) Purdue avenged an earlier loss to Ohio State, winning in Columbus by 3; Buckeyes only used one sub the whole game; he played nine minutes. Not sure I've ever seen four guys play all 40 minutes in a Big 11 game.

          9) Duke was down 12 at half, won by 7 at Miami; something is missing with the Blue Devils, not sure exactly what. I mean they're having a good season, but they're much, much, much better at home.

          8) West Virginia's Devin Ebanks uses the backboard on mid-range shots a lot more than most players-- its a lost art.

          7) Tuesday night, every seat at Mississippi State had a t-shirt on it, white or maroon, alternating by section. It took 40 Miss State students 3 hours to put those 10,000 shirts on every seat in Humphrey Coliseum.

          6) College hoop analysts I enjoy: Jimmy Dykes, Steven Bardo and Steve Lavin, but the Wednesday night Big 12 team of Ron Franklin/Bill Raftery is my favorite. Franklin went to Ole Miss, Raftery to LaSalle in Philly, but they're very good on the air together, even though Franklin is more of a football guy. Fran Fraschilla is another analyst who does a terrific job.

          5) Maryland was down 10 at the half, rallied to win at NC State in what was their third game in five nights, because a makeup game was played on Monday against Virginia. Vazquez kid should be ACC Player of Year.

          4) Missouri kept Texas reeling, beating Longhorns 82-77, handing Texas its sixth loss in last nine games. Oddly enough, Mizzou coach Anderson's daughter plays college basketball for the Lady Longhorns.

          3) Arkansas' Courtney Fortson needs some support for SEC Player of the Year; Razorbacks lead SEC West at 7-4; they were useless before Fortson came back from his suspension. Everyone needs a good point guard.

          2) If Phil Mickelson or Eldrick Woods had decided to play in Match Play this week, Ross McGowan would be playing golf somewhere else, but he got in as the #64 seed, and upset #1 seed Steve Stricker Wednesday- he moves on to the second round. All because Mickelson is a good family man and Woods isn't.

          1) Speaking of which, Mr Woods is making his first public appearance in three months Friday; carefully crafted, guests will be invited, no questions are going to be asked. I better not hear the phrase ".......for the good of the children." or I'm going to puke. I'm thinking I'll need a barf bag.
