Second day in a row finding an NCAAB total that I love.
I am playing UNDER 141.5 in the VCU/GMason matchup.
Similar criteria to yesterday... VCU totals average 146/game and Mason 132/game, so this seems like a fair meeting of the two.
But I think this far into the season, when you have two contenders squaring off, it's more telling to look at what happened when each played other good teams. Throw out the 95 points against Marist, or the 89 against Dartmouth. What do the totals look like when they play tough competition?
For VCU, in 8 games against above .500 competition, the average total goes down to 138/game, and 5 out of 8 of these games have gone under tonight's number. For Mason, the average total against 7 quality opponents goes down to a meager 126/game, largely because only 6 OUT OF 7 games have been UNDER this number. VCU has the bigger offense, and the faster pace, but Mason will be playing this game at home, where they are 11-1, and VERY importantly, this game will be nationally televised by ESPN, a factor which I believe has the effect of nerves and lower scores for programs who are not accustomed to the spotlight (true in both NCAAF and NCAAB).
When faced with solid opposition, these teams are rarely involved in shootouts, and I think this very important conference game will be close and under.
VCU/Mason Under 141.5
Good luck all.
