OK, at 22 points, I cannot resist this dog.
Iowa is a bad team, but I will gladly take this many points in a game that Michigan State can hardly be fired up for, and that would really thwart both teams natural trends to end up a loser.
Michigan State's victories at home, and margin of victory:
Gonzaga by 4
Toledo by 13
Valpo by 30
Florida LOST by 3
Wofford by 12
Oakland by 31
IPFW by 22
TX Arlington by 19
Wisconsin by 7
Minnesota by 7
Illinois by 10
That makes twice in 11 games that Mich State has won by more than this line, and bad as they are, the Hawkeyes are better than Valpo and Oakland.
Iowa has lost 11 games this year, and only once have they been beaten by more than 20.. AT Texas. The fact that Mich State won AT Iowa just 11 days ago by a handy 17 point margin plays a role in this spread, but I think the psychology of this game will go the other way entirely. Iowa is not a threat to Michigan State, and with weekend roadgames coming up at Minnesota and at Michigan, I would not be surprised to see the Spartans merely nurse a second half lead.
