Hey all, lets have a GREAT night!!!
Buffalo Sabres @ NJ Devils
Nobody is hotter right now than the New Jersey Devils who are riding a 9 game unbeaten streak. Martin Brodeur is proving himself to be one of the greatest goalies of all time after yet another shutout Saturday, giving him a grand total of 67 goose eggs. He has 3 shutouts in 8 starts this season. NJ is 99-36 when allowing 2 goals or less over the last 3 years, and right now Brodeur is carrying a spectacular GAA of just 1.77. That does not bode well for the Bruins who are scoring an average of just 1.4 goals per game over their last 4. In all road starts, the Bruins hit an offensive wall as they are averaging just 2.0 gpg. That isn’t going to get it done against Marty at home!! The Bruins haven’t scored more than 2 goals since a win at Atlanta on November 5th. Boston has just 3 wins in their last 9 games and have hit 5 straight UNDERS. The one positive for Boston is that in Martin Biron’s starts on the road, he has a save percentage of 94.2% and the team is 5-1 ATS in those starts.
Boston is working tonight on 1 day of rest while NJ has had 3 full days off for fresher legs.
NJ is 16-4 ATS in home games off a home shutout win since 1996.
NJ is 4-0 in their last 4 games at home versus Buffalo.
NJ is 35-50 after allowing 1 goal or less in 2 straight games.
NJ is 15-9-5 SU against Buffalo since 1996.
NJ is 5-1-3 SU over Buffalo in the last 3 seasons.
Boston is 8-1 ATS versus teams with winning records this season.
We’ll ride the hot team tonight, as there is no reason at all that the Devils shouldn’t win SU.
New Jersey Devils (-.5) (-170) 5*
Minnesota Wild @ Pittsburgh Penguins
Minnesota needs to win games against teams like this. Pittsburgh is banged up right now with their leading scorer, Rico Fata on the sidelines as well as team leader Mario Lemieux injured. Minnesota is 6-0 in non-conference games this season as well as 7-3 ATS away. Minnesota isn’t scoring much though over their last 5 games. They are averaging 1.6 gpg, but the good news is that they are allowing just 1.4 gpg from their opponents. Dwayne Roloson has been hot, even though their recent 1-1-1 homestand record doesn’t show it, and he’ll probably be used tonight instead of the normal swapping between he and goalie Manny Fernandez. No matter who starts, they should do well since they both have a save percentage of 90% or higher on the road. Marc-Andre Fleury came out of the gates on fire but has since cooled off with his save percentage down to just 87.7% over his last 4 starts. The Penguins were outscored 29-11 during that span. We look for that to continue tonight against a Minnesota team that likes to shoot.
Minnesota Wild (-.5) (-110) 5*
Boston Bruins @ Atlanta Thrashers
Atlanta looked like the team to beat at the onset of the season even after the tragic death of their teammate. They may have been playing on emotion though since they have been extremely inconsistent over the last 2 weeks. C Marc Savard is still out and the scoring machine, Ilya Kovalchuk is the only thing keeping this teams head above water. G Pasi Nurminen has cooled off, not much, but just a little.
Boston is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games and 5-3 ATS at Atlanta in the last 3 years. Boston is also allowing just 1.6 gpg on the road this season. They are 8-2 ATS away this year. I DO NOT LIKE TAKING STREAKING TEAMS, but in this cae, I like Bostons’ chance here.
Boston Bruins (-.5) (-110) 5*
Detroit -110 3*
St. Louis +105 3*
