First off, I'm a long time lurker on this site (6+ years) and I just wanted to say a quick thanks to all of those who post here and relay thoughts, insight and information.
I love this site and I've been glancing over it off and on over the last 10 years of my gambling life.
The one thing I look for on here are guys who have local knowledge of their team (with a decent amount of history) and know things about strategy, injuries, etc. that others outside of their bubble don't. That is valuable knowledge.
I felt compelled to add my two cents to the jar as there have been many times that I wanted to give feedback or tell someone thanks for some information that won me money.
I don't want to be too long-winded (but it will be) as I know everyone has better things to do than read posts from strangers (especially ones new to the site with no records) but I have an extremely strong opinion on the Cowboys/Saints game Saturday night.
I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and am a lifelong Cowboys fan. I don't think I've missed a game on TV in 20 years. I know more about them, listened to more talk radio about them, seen more of their games in person and read every blog and sportswriter column about them than any human ever should.
I am a devout 3rd generation Cowboy fan.
I have read alot of opinions (and listened to them as well) this week about how the Cowboys are going to give the Saints a hell of a game Saturday night and possibly win. DO NOT believe that. We are going to get absolutely fucking killed.
DO NOT talk yourself into how the Cowboys are due or how they really want it or anything else silly that takes your mind off of these simple facts surrounding this game: We fold every year in December. We have almost 0 truly clutch players in crunchtime. We have a very overrated coach (who will be fired) who folds in big games. We have an Offensive Coordinator who can't coach someone to an exit sign. We have a QB (who is rumored) to have proposed to his fiancee (smokin' hot) this week and has a history of spacing out before big games. Our best player (Ware) almost broke his neck last week and they are saying he's 50/50 at best to play which means he probably won't play or he will be used scarcely. We have 0 pass rush without Ware. We have a VERY iffy secondary (Hamlin is not 100%) with the most overrated "cover corner" in the NFL (Newman) who is going to be facing the most prolific passing attack in the past decade. We are not a team that plays well from behind and our running game has been awful as of late. We have 0 people who can or will make a play on special teams and we have no chance of returning a punt or a kickoff. We have a kicker who has the shanks as of late and they were actually auditioning our kickoff specialist in practice this week (never a good sign) because they are very worried about missed field goals. We are facing Sean Payton who used to coach with Parcells on the Cowboys who wants to beat America's Team on national television and wants to beat us handily. New Orleans strikes quick and gets ahead quick and puts your hand in the fire right off the bat which is not good for how our team is structured at this point in the season.
If all of that doesn't sway you, remember that we curl up and shrivel when things aren't going our way (which will be the case about 5 minutes into the game Saturday night) and we will be playing in the most ridiculously outrageous atmosphere of this NFL season in that dome on Saturday night. My family is from Louisiana and you guys outside of the bubble truly have no idea what the Saints mean to that state right now after what happened with Hurrican Katrina, etc. The Saints will be treating this game like the Super Bowl and for those of you that saw the Saints DESTROY the Patriots a few weeks back - get ready for Chapter 2 - but worse. Dallas is extremely fragile right now and I truly believe the players already know what is coming - they know they're standing on the train tracks. It is going to be so raucus and loud in that dome on Saturday night that Dallas might set an NFL record for false starts. Again, DO NOT let any of that "America's Team" bullshit sway you from making the smart play here.
For those of you that are fellow Cowboy homers and fans, you know deep down what happens to us in December and that our season is already over. We will finish 9-7 at best, more likely 8-8 and will miss the playoffs. We are PROBABLY not winning another game this year but we are DEFINITELY not winning this one on Saturday night.
Any line that you guys get under -10 on the Saints is the biggest early Christmas present EVER.
I make most of my money for the year right now betting against the Cowboys in December and focusing on mismatches in the CFB bowls.
Just to show you I'm serious about taking advantage of this, this was one of my bets from last week.....(I just copy/pasted it from my online book).....
Straight Wager 12/10/09 17:12 ET
bet 1,050.00 to win 1,470.00 (paid 2520.0)
Chargers(SanDiego) +140
Result: Wager Won
12/13/09(16:20 ET)
Chargers(SanDiego) 20
Cowboys(Dallas) 17
I hope those of you that are smart and have been doing this for awhile capitalize on the opportunity to make some money.
