                    Weekend six-pack
Week 11 NFL trends, with the weekend approaching

-- Chiefs covered six of last nine divisional road games.

-- 49ers are 5-0-1 as an underdog in non-divisional games.

-- Saints are 6-2 as a divisional road favorite.

-- Rams covered six of their last 24 home games.

-- Browns covered two of their last eight road games.

-- Bills covered six of last seven non-divisional road games.

                    ************************************************** ******************************************

Saturday's List of 13: Clearing out a cluttered mind.......

                    13) Quite a high school basketball event this weekend in New Haven, at Albertus Magnus College; eight games Saturday, six more Sunday (there were six on Friday too). Some of the best teams on the east coast.

                    12) NFL teams have gone for it on 4th down 10% more than in any year since 1990. Teams going for it on 4th-and-2 in '09 made it 55% of time.

                    11) Due to unusually wet weather in the midwest, less pumpkins than usual were harvested this year, so there could be a shortage of pumpkin pies, and no, I'm not making this up. Bad news for Thanksgiving.

                    10) Rhode Island was the last of the 347 D-I basketball teams to play a game; they whacked Brown pretty good, so the wait was worth it.

                    9) Must be fun growing up in California; one of Andy Garcia's Little League coaches was Mickey Rourke.

                    8) Memphis Grizzlies are having a promotion later this year, giving out 3,000 Allen Iverson jerseys. Whoops. They're a collectors' item, though.

                    7) Iowa has won 22 Big 11 wrestling titles; of the other 10 teams in their league, seven have head coaches who either played/coached at Iowa.

                    6) Gonzaga-Kansas-Utah State are only three college hoop teams to win 23 or more games in each of the last ten seasons.

                    5) Dick Jauron was making $3M a year? What do good coaches make?

                    4) #125 on the PGA Money List, the last guy to earn his card for 2010 was Jimmy Walker, who earned $663,683, or $2,997 more than #126th guy, who has to go to Q School to get his card. 91 golfers earned at least a million bucks on tour this season.

                    3) Tracy McGrady is getting paid $23.2M this year, but because he has missed more than 41 straight games with an injury, the Rockets get 80% of that money back from an insurance policy, until he returns, which is why they're hesitant to have him come back too quickly. McGrady isn't happy-- he wants to play and says he's ready.

                    2) Aroldis Chapman, the 21-year old Cuban pitcher who defected and will be a rich kid pretty soon when he signs as a free agent, already fired his agent, the one who helped Chapman become a free agent. He isn't in this country yet, but he's quickly learning the American Way.

                    1) Then there's Stephen Strasburg, the San Diego State pitcher who got a boatload of money from the Nationals; well, he dislocated his knee this week-- he won't need surgery, he's expected to be ready for throwing in spring training, but still, it doesn't sound like a very good beginning.
