PITTSBURGH (3-6 SU/4-5 ATS) at SAN FRANCISCO (4-5 SU/4-4-1 ATS)
The Steelers finally won a game last week in a 28-15 home win over the Cardinals as -7 point chalks. Tommy Maddox completed 12-of-24 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns and Hines Ward had six catches for 64 yards, while Chris Doering hauled in two balls for 62 yards for the Steelers, who snapped a five- game skid. The Steelers won the game despite deficits in total "O" (379-246), first downs (19-11) and time of possession (33:44 to 26:16). The 49ers are off a bye week after posting a 30-10 home win over the Rams two weeks ago as +4 point underdogs. QB Tim Rattay, starting in place of the injured Jeff Garcia, completed 19-of-29 passes threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns in his first NFL start. The 49ers also finished with 165 yards on the ground in their third straight home win. It was an overall good effort by SF as they held edges in total "O" (389-340), first downs (24-18) and time of possession (34:19 to 25:41). Pittsburgh is 9-1 ATS as an underdog of +3½ or more points, while SF counters with a 12-3-1 ATS mark on Monday Night as well as 17-7-1 ATS as a Monday Night home chalk. SF is 3-1-1 ATS at home this season and handled their last two opponents at home with relative ease, beating Tampa Bay and St. Louis, so they should have no problem with the inept Steelers.
