            -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Yankees (-191, 9.5)

            Pitching

Pedro Martinez (Philadelphia Phillies) vs. Andy Pettitte (New York Yankees)

            Pedro Martinez (5-1, 3.63 ERA)

This is a throwback to earlier in the decade when these two weathered postseason veterans collide in Game 6 of the World Series. Martinez answered any questions about his mentality facing the Bronx Bombers.

The right-hander gave up three runs – leaving two runners on when he was yanked in the sixth inning of Game 2. Martinez allowed six hits including two home runs while striking out eight batters and walking just two. He’s going on five-days rest Wednesday night and if any player would relish denying the Yankees a world championship it is the self-proclaimed “most influential player in Yankee Stadium history”.

            Andy Pettitte (14-8, 4.18 ERA)

As of Tuesday morning, all signs are pointing to Andy Pettitte for the Yankees’ Game 6 starting pitcher. The veteran lefty would be pitching on three days' rest, marking the first time in two seasons Pettitte would take the mound on limited downtime.

He lasted six innings against Philadelphia in Game 3, giving up four runs on five hits including two home runs. He struck out seven and walked three batters, earning his third win in four postseason starts. At home, Pettitte is 7-4 with a 4.40 ERA.

            Injuries

Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino is nursing a sore finger on his right hand after being struck by a pitch in Game 5 Monday night. Victorino toughed it out for most of the game and X-rays revealed no break.

He was icing his hand following Monday’s win and is expected to be in the order for Game 6 Wednesday. For the series, he is hitting just .167 with four total bases and two RBIs.

New York will be without outfielder Melky Cabrera for the remainder of the World Series due to a strained hamstring. He will be replaced by rookie Ramiro Pena. Cabrera was hitting .153 in the World Series with two hits and three strikeouts.

            Batting

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley continues to swing the big bat in the World Series. He hit two home runs in Game 5, tying Reggie Jackson’s record for most home runs in a series with five. He’s hitting .333 with eight RBIs and 22 total bases.

New York outfielder Johnny Damon is the best bat in the Yankees’ order. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in Game 5, improving his World Series numbers to .381 at the plate with 10 total bases and four RBIs.

            Pick: Over 9.5

              Wednesday, November 4

Phillies are 9-2 when Martinez starts for them; he is 1-1, 2.07 in two postseason starts; this is first time in almost two months he's started on normal four days' rest. Pedro allowed three runs in six IP (107 PT) in a 3-1 Game 2 loss. Pettitte is 3-0, 3.24 in four postseason starts; he is on three days' rest day here, tough for older pitcher who just faced this foe. After the first two Series games stayed under total, last three went over, with the average total in last three games, 12.3.

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Yankees [FOX| 7:57 PM ET]

Phillies: The Phillies have won 20 of their last 28 playoff games, but need to win to stay alive. The Phillies have won eight of the last 11 times Pedro Martinez has taken the mound. The veteran right-hander gave up three runs in six innings in a Game 2 loss at Yankee Stadium. Martinez was 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in just 44 2/3 innings since signing with the Phillies. Martinez was 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA at Citizens Band Park, but 3-2 with a 4.28 ERA on the road this season. Chase Utley has hit five home runs, tying him with Reggie Jackson for most homers in a World Series. The Phillies have out-homered New York, 10-5. However, Ryan Howard is batting just .158 in the Series with 12 strikeouts. Shane Victorino may not be 100 percent after getting hit in the hand with a pitch on Monday night.

The Over has cashed 7 of the last 10 times the Phillies have been an underdog.
The Over is 19-5-2 in Philadelphia’s past 26 games.

Key Injuries - Outfielder Shane Victorino (hand) is probable.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 4

Yankees (-$2.00, O/U 9): The Yankees have won the World Series in all eight previous times they were up 3-1. The Phillies staved off elimination by winning Game 5 at home, but New York only lost three games in a row twice after the All-Star break. Only once after mid-June did the Yankees lose consecutive home games. Andy Pettitte will be pitching on three days rest for the first time this season. The Yankees have won 11 of Pettitte’s last 15 starts. The southpaw’s statistics have been better on the road, though, where he was 10-4 with a 3.73 ERA compared to 7-4 at Yankee Stadium with a 4.40 ERA. The under has cashed in 10 of Pettitte’s last 13 home starts. The Yankees have cashed 40 of the past 52 times they’ve been a home favorite. They are 47-18 in their last 65 games when facing a right-handed starter.

The Under is 46-21-1 in Pettitte’s last 68 starts as a favorite.
The home team is 18-6 in the past 24 games Joe West has been the home plate umpire.

Key Injuries - Outfielder Melky Cabrera (hamstring) is out.

PROJECTED SCORE: 5 (Side of the Day)

Total of the Day is in NBA today.
