NHL 2010.03.15 only pick:
Boston Bruins @ New Jersey Devils
For this matchup is hard to pass, as there is big value in the odds. It's true that the Devils got one of the most talented rosters, and will play at home.
But if we look in the current form and shape, we can't forget that the Bruins seems to be back to their best, the same team that were the best team in the regular season last year.... by far.
Boston is 3-4 since the break, losing the first game at home 1-4 to Montreal. Since that game, they won the game or lose it by one goal only. Their defense is showing some improvements, despite this being the six straight road game.
Despite this hard spot for the Bruins, there is no doubt that the team is taking it in the best way, as they are testing themselves to achieve a good form. The playoffs aren't lost yet, and fail that goal it will make this season a really bad season.
Their best win after the break was in Philadelphia, 5-1 to the locals Flyers. This show how this team faces the big games, games where they have to show that they deserve and should be seen as a playoff contenders.
The Devils acquired Kovalchuk just before the break. Kovalchuk is unquestionable in the Top 10 players of the league, at least. However, the team got a letdown spot, as they with several defeats and 3-3 after the break.
Their defense needs to improve, while their offense stills looking for the best chemistry. They are allowing more goals per game than the goals they score per game, and that's never good for a team that is a contender to the Stanley Cup.
Perhaps the bar was placed to high, everyone had big expectations for the team with Parise and Elias between others, but with Kovalchuk arriving to the team, all the spotlights are over the team. And the team isn't dealing well with it, showing that despite the talent, they can't handle with the off-game like a champions.
Today, they will have a really hard game, as they will face a strong defense that likes to play these games against big teams. Isn't because of the talent, as they have it, but concerning the mental preparation, the Devils shouldn't have so much favoritism.
Pick: Boston Bruins ML +145 (2.45) Bookmaker
