Carolina Hurricanes @ New York Rangers

We can recap the first game this season from both teams to introduce this game. On January 2, Rangers hosted Hurricanes and were surprised due to a lack of offense, giving a draw by 1 in regular time and losing in OT. Today they have the opportunity to revenge that game, and I think that they will accomplish it.

Hurricanes are finally a normal team. They started to win after a really struggling start. However, they are alternating wins with losses, and we can take some conclusions. Hurricanes are the kind of team that have a franchise player, but the talent isn't much more than Staal. They can achieve wins due to a great team spirit and also the efforts and what they give on the arena. So, when they face teams that despise them, team that have key players injured, or simply can't produce goals, they really have a chance to win. Their weakest point is their defense, and that why they need some help from the opponents.

Rangers started well the season, but shutdown their engines suddenly. Now, they have restarted the engines, however it seems that they still have some problems, in my opinion is due to "lack of work". But the talent is there, and the last 3 home results are not bad at all. 8-2 win, 6-2 win and a 2-4 loss to Penguins. So, despite a loss in their last game, and a roadtrip before that game where they score a combined 0 goals in two games, the team seems ready to todays game. They have talked in order to try improve their offense, the key that is missing right now. And with Gaborik in the roster, a Top5 points player, that issue can be easily take care.

Today Hurricanes will face a team looking for revenge. But its not all. They will not a face a team that despise them. They will face a team with no injuries. They will not face a team with lack of talent on the offensive line.

Today we will have a matchup between two teams in different situations. One team is without "fuel", the other had filed their tanks recently.

Atlanta is 5-14 in their last 19 games. We can also say they are 1-9 in their last 10 road games. This show how this team had decreased their performances. They started well the season, leaded by Kovalchuk, but suddenly it was clear that Kovalchuk wasn't enough to hold this team during all season. The result is in front of everyone. This team is struggling, and after a great results that seems the right path to playoffs, now they are almost out. Their lack of offense is bad, specially when they had a poor defense.

Flyers are going a hard path. They struggled during many games, and are trying now to compensate that bad moment in order to guarantee a playoff spot. But it's not easy, as they are many games back and in third, and there is another good second place teams in the conference. But while they believe in it, they will fight for it. Their confidence for today is high, and they have a revenge spot, as they lost 0-1 their last matchup, in that bad period. Now, both teams are in different positions and forms, with Flyers much better, with a 11-5 record. Their offense is working again, and at home, in their last 6 games, all the games they won, they won by 2 or more goals (they only lost one, with a 5-1 record).

Today we can't expect no less than a confident and strong Flyers. They have the revenge spot, they are playing much better, and they are scoring a lot. Trashers are going through a bad moment, and this is not the place to rehab.

Ottawa Senators @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Maybe there is something missing me, however i see a huge value in this line. It's easy to explain and there isn't much to say.

Pittsburgh is a well known team due to their offense. In their last 6 home games, no less than 7 goals were scored. This was after that period that they struggled, and its their kind of game right now. They support a lot their game in their offense, and despise a little bit their defense in order to focus more in offense. The results are clear, lot's of goals. Even if team try to defend and slow the game, Penguins don't let it happen. They always score, as they have great and talented offensive players. And if the opponents team don't "accept" the opportunity to score either... well, is not the kind of mentality that live in US sports. :D

Ottawa is living a great moment. That's due to their offensive line, they finally got all their talent players ok, and since they returned all to play at the same time, the team is 7-0! They will have to continue this performance as long as they can, but their defense, that has been quite well lately, will not handle for much more. Just before Christmas, their defense allowed 8 goals in Pittsburgh, and that a good sign how they are not particularly good against Penguins. But they will not quick the game because of it. Their offense has been great lately, and against a poor defense like Penguins, they will surely try to win this game by scoring more.

Today I expect Flyers to win easily this matchup. And we can clearly expose the point of view.

Flyers are a team that are returning to their best game, as they showed earlier in the season. Even with some mistakes committed during some games that costs them the win, the team is with a positive record since they returned to their best shape. For those that think that Flyers are a bad road team, their overall record is 11-12, something pretty good if you remember that they struggled during over a month, including many road games. Now, despite they lost their 2 road games, this team can approach this 3 games roadtrip with a confidence. They are playing pretty well, improving their defense that is allowing 1.80 goals per game lately, and taking all the chances they got to score.

Flames are going through their worst moment so far. It's true that after a nine consecutive losses in their last 10 games, they won their last game. However, they won at home against the team that is having the worst moment, with injuries, and struggling a lot for a win. Can this win give the confidence that Flames need to seek a better record? I think not. If a 2-11 record in last 13 games weren't bad enough, now team have to face another problems. Their best defense man, Phaneuf, was traded. This can make their defense much weaker without a doubt. And leave Flames fans angry. And if we can add that their best player, the team leader in points, is in doubt, the problems seems without a end to Flames.

Flyers have all the edge. They are playing well, strong in defense, and when they find spots to score, they can exploit it and score a lot. They will face today a defense that will be orphan of their best defender, and a team that is without any confidence.
