Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: The Jets and Dolphins play under the lights in Miami, and the Phillies and Rockies continue their division series in Colorado.

Colliding on the gridiron . . .

It's the Jets at Miami in the NFL's primetime matchup for Monday night. New York was beaten 24-10 by the Saints last time out, with Mark Sanchez throwing for just 138 yards and getting picked off three times. The Dolphins had no trouble with the Bills in their last game, winning 38-10 at home. Chad Henne had one touchdown strike in that victory, while Ronnie Brown ran for a pair of touchdowns

Oddsmakers have the Jets (3-1 ATS) listed as 2-point road faves for Monday's matchup with the Dolphins (1-3 ATS). The total for the contest is pegged at 36.5.

As well, there are two CFL games on tap for Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, with Calgary at Montreal and Winnipeg at Hamilton. The Als are 5.5-point home favorites for their game, with the Tiger-Cats favored by 5.5 points as well at home

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

It'll be Cliff Lee (7-4, 3.39 ERA) taking the mound for the Phillies on Monday as they play Game 4 of their NL division series against the Rockies in Colorado. Lefthander Lee won Game 1 of their series last week, holding Colorado to one run on six hits over nine innings of work. Ubaldo Jimenez (15-12, 3.47 ERA) gets the ball for the Rockies for Monday's matchup. Righthander Jimenez took the loss in Game 1 of the series, allowing five runs on nine hits over his five innings.

Taking a trip around the rink . . .

Finally, there are nine games on the NHL's schedule for Monday night, including Colorado at Boston. The Avalanche fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Blackhawks on Saturday, with Kyle Quincey chipping in with two assists in the loss. The Bruins were down 3-0 to the Islanders on Saturday, but scored three third-period goals and eventually won 4-3 in a shootout. Tuukka Rask stopped 35 shots in the win.

Elsewhere on the ice: Los Angeles at the Islanders, New Jersey at Washington, Pittsburgh at Ottawa, Florida at Tampa Bay, Calgary at Chicago, Edmonton at Nashville, Phoenix at San Jose, and Toronto at the Rangers. The Maple Leafs remained winless at 0-3-1 with a 5-2 home loss to the Penguins on Saturday night. Vesa Toskala gave up five goals on 33 Pittsburgh shots in Saturday's loss.

Wild loss for Wildcats backers

If you had Arizona -4 at Washington on Saturday, you probably felt pretty good with a 33-21 lead with three minutes to play. Even after Washington's Jake Locker threw a TD pass, you were still covering at 33-28.

On Arizona's next possession, Nick Foles threw a screen pass low and behind Delashaun Dean. It deflected off Dean's foot right to Washington's Mason Foster, who returned it 37 yards for the go-ahead - and spread-covering - touchdown at 36-33. Arizona's chance at a comeback cover ended with Foles throwing an interception as Washington improved to 4-1 ATS as an underdog.

Monday night nemesis

The Miami Dolphins welcome their nemesis on Monday Night Football, hosting the New York Jets. The Dolphins are 2-8 straight up in the last 10 meetings and even worse against the spread, going 0-8-1 until last year's 24-17 road win in the season finale. In its last five home meetings with New York, Miami is 1-4 SU and 0-5 ATS. The Dolphins are getting one point with a total of 36.

Leaning to the left

The postponement of Saturday's game in Denver means the Colorado Rockies will see all lefthanded starters in their NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The extra day off allowed Phillies manager Charlie Manuel to switch his Game Three starter from Pedro Martinez to J.A. Happ. After Happ, it will be back to the top of the rotation with Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels.

Colorado batted .253 vs. lefthanders and .264 vs. righthanders during the season. The Rockies were totally shut down by Lee in Game One and face him again Monday in Game Four.

Off on the wrong foot

Vancouver Canucks left wing Daniel Sedin will miss at least four weeks with a broken left foot. Sedin was limited to one assist in Vancouver's first three games, all losses. He had three assists in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Montreal.

Problems Bruin

When the Boston Bruins host the Colorado Avalanche, they will be without defenseman Dennis Wideman, who has a shoulder injury. The disciplined Wideman is tied for second on the team with 10 shots and has a goal, an assist and no penalty minutes. He will be replaced by Johnny Boychuk, who will be playing for the first time this season. The Bruins are -215 with a total of 5.5.

Sunshine State rivalry

In the last five games between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, three have been decided by shootouts, four have ended in 4-3 scores and all five have cleared the total. This season, the Panthers are 2-2 against the over and the Lightning are 3-1. Tampa Bay is -140 with a total of 5.5.

A look ahead

Tuesday's Sun Belt Conference matchup between Arkansas State and Louisiana-Monroe has some extended trends worth a look. The road team has won outright in the last four meetings and the underdog has covered the last nine matchups. Host Louisiana-Monroe is getting one point, with no total yet to be set by oddsmakers.

Under the radar

The Los Angeles Kings began a six-game road trip with a 2-1 victory over St. Louis on Saturday. That was their first road game of the season but extended a streak that has seen the under go 11-1 in the Kings' last 12 road games. Los Angeles is visiting the New York Islanders, and the teams are 3-1-3 vs. the under in the last seven meetings. The Kings are -110 with a total of 5.5.

Six-pack for Monday

-- Three sweeps in the first round, and Colorado-Philly series is being played on frozen tundra of Coors Field; not the best baseball so far in the first round of the playoffs.

-- Denver Broncos' retro unis weren't good; their socks reminded me of a zebra that fell into a vat of yellow paint they use on school buses.

-- Two of the all-time great draft busts were on the same field Sunday as David Carr and JaMarcus Russell played in the Raider-Giant rout.

-- Cleveland-Buffalo was an exceptionally ugly pro football game.

-- Phillies edged Colorado 6-5 in game that ended at 2:14am Monday; World Champs now lead Rockies 2-1 in best-of-5 series.

-- No American League baseball until Friday, because the geniuses that run baseball let the TV networks lock in starting dates for each series.

Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday.........

13) Highest of drama in Baltimore, where Cincinnati won 17-14 on a TD pass from Palmer to Caldwell with 0:22 left; it was Bengals third straight win by three points, and it came three days after the death of the wife of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. An emotional day for the Bengals.

12) Cedric Benson ran for 120 yards, the first runner to go for 100+ vs Baltimore since Larry Johnson three years ago.

11) More drama in the desert, as Arizona blew a 21-0 halftime lead, got a defensive TD for a go-ahead score with 2:20 left, then stopped Houston at the 1-yard line in the last minute to seal the win. Neither side made a big effort to run the ball. Andre Johnson (8-101, two TDs) was terrific for Houston. Warner was awesome in first half, erratic in the second.

10) Miles Austin turned into Jerry Rice for a day, catching ten passes for 250 yards and two TDs in his first NFL start, as sluggish Cowboys needed OT to beat the gritty but winless Chiefs, 26-20. Dallas scored three TDs, on plays of 36-59-60 yards.

9) Can the NFL step in on this Raiders' situation? The team is pathetic; why do they insist on ruining JaMarcus' Russell's career? As bad as the Rams are, at least they show effort. Oakland is seriously dysfunctional, and there's little evidence that Al Davis still knows what he is doing.

8) Reading up on this Cable/Randy Hanson episode was scary; Cable could be arrested on felony assault charges soon, for breaking the jaw of former assistant coach Randy Hanson back in training camp. Why is this man still coaching the team? Here's one guy Al Davis really should fire.

7) Handicapping Jacksonville games is freakin' useless; they're erratic to the point of being schizophrenic; they've already quit in two of the first five games (Arizona/Seattle) but looked pretty good in the other three.

6) Cleveland QB Derek Anderson was 2-17/23 passing on a sunny day in Buffalo Sunday, and Browns still won 6-3, in one of the worst NFL games I've ever seen. In fairness, Anderson hit his tight end with a pass right on the hands for about a 40-yard gain but the guy dropped it.

5) Browns' offense hasn't scored a TD in nine of their last 11 games.

4) Its no wonder Mike Singletary's son plays basketball for Texas Tech, where his first coach was Bob Knight-- Singletary acts a lot like Knight with his players, lot of yelling. Interesting to see if they keep listening.

3) 0-5 Rams have now lost 14 straight games; they gained 400 yards in their 38-10 loss to Vikings, getting in Minnesota red zone four times, but turning it over on three of those four drives, twice fumbling on the two. St Louis leads NFL in penalties, in lost fumbles, in consecutive losses.

2) I read one guy claiming that the success of Denver's McDaniels is a great reason why owners are going for young coaches instead of older guys; wonder how he would explain coach Morris and the Buccaneers.

1) Atlanta Falcons were razor sharp Sunday, dismantling the 49ers out at Candlestick. Falcons have a wide variety of offensive weapons.

1907 - Three Finger Brown shuts down the Tigers, 2-0, to win the World Series. The Cubs steal four bases for a total of 18 in the five-game series (the Cubs won four games, the other ending in a tie).

1913 - John McGraw hosts a reunion for Hugh Jennings and the old Orioles. After a night of heavy drinking, he blames his longtime friend, business partner, and teammate Wilbert Robinson for too many coaching mistakes in the recently concluded World Series. They exchange insults and McGraw fires him. They won't speak to each other for 17 years. Six days later Robbie will begin a legendary 18-year career as Brooklyn manager.

1916 - The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in five games with a 4-1 victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Ernie Shore pitched a three-hitter for Boston.

1920 - Cleveland's Stan Coveleski won his third game in the World Series as the Indians beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 3-0 and won the championship, five games to two.

Lee is 2-0, 1.13 in his last two starts against the Rockies-- he threw CG vs Colorado in Game 1, with 28 called strikes and only six hits allowed on 24 balls in play. Jimenez blanked Phillies for first four innings in Game 1, then gave up five runs over next 1+ innings and lost 5-1- he got only five swings/misses on his 92 pitches, giving up nine hits in five IP.

Cliff Lee (14-13, 3.22 ERA), Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies trade for this lefty worked out fantastically in the regular season and it pay dividends in his first postseason start.

Lee allowed just one run in a complete game win over Colorado last Wednesday. He also struck out five batters and didn’t allow a single walk.

“He was aggressive, he had good tempo and rhythm and he handled the whole flow of the game real good,” Philly manager Charlie Manuel said after the game.

Philly backers still haven’t forgotten his last month plus of the regular season. Lee was shaky in losses to the Astros and Milwaukee to close out the year and carried a 6.81 ERA over his last seven starts.

Ubaldo Jimenez (15-12, 3.47), Colorado Rockies

The Rockies ace was on a roll in Game 1 of the series before running into trouble in the middle innings.

“Up until the fifth, it was one of the better games he had pitched over the course of month,” Colorado manager Jim Tracy told reporters. “He was really, really on his game into the fifth. He had all his stuff.”

Jimenez was steady in two of his three postseason starts in 2007. He allowed just two runs combined in starts against the Phils and Diamondbacks before the Red Sox knocked him out after just 4 2-3 innings in his lone World Series appearance.

Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies (N/A)

If you believe in karma, then you’ve got to like the Rockies chances today. Colorado went into the ninth inning with the score tied. Things got interesting after Jimmy Rollins singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Chase Utley’s check swing sent a nibbler into play towards Rockies closer Huston Street. Utley reach first base safe on a close play but after the game home plate ump Jerry Meals admitted to the Associated Press that he blew the call.

“Yeah, the ball came up and grazed off his leg and continued rolling up the line,” Meals said.

Meals then tried to throw some of the blame on Utley, telling reporters the Phillies second baseman never acted like he was hit.

“Nobody said anything, so I ran hard,” Utley said. “I check swung. The ball checked in front of me. It might have hit my leg. But nobody made a call.”

Rollins moved to third on the play and then was brought home by a Ryan Howard sac fly.

We don’t subscribe to karma in the newsroom.

That’s why we like the Phillies to shut the door on the Rockies and advance to the NLCS in a rematch against the Dodgers from a year ago.

Phoenix Coyotes at San Jose Sharks (-190, 5.5)

The Sharks have won three of their last four games and a red-hot offense is the reason why. San Jose has scored four or more goals in each of its last four games thanks to a surge from former captain Patrick Marleau.

The speedy center scored two goals and added an assist Saturday against the Minnesota Wild. The three-point outburst gives Marleau five goals and six points on the season.

After the Sharks disappointing first round exit in last season’s playoffs, fingers started pointing at the team’s captain. Head coach Todd McLellan stripped Marleau of the C but the long-time Shark doesn’t seem to be letting that affect his play.

“I don’t know how a person could handle all that,” teammate and new captain Robe Blake told the San Jose Mercury News. “He was as professional as any athlete could possibly be. He comes here every day like absolutely nothing is wrong or happened. With the way he’s plyaing, it doesn’t seem like anything can bother him.”

Marleau is the key to the Sharks' attack. There isn't as much weight on Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley when Marleau's line is producing.

Look for San Jose’s offense to stay hot tonight against the Coyotes. The over is 4-1 in the Sharks five games this season.

Florida Panthers at Tampa Bay Lightning (-145, 5.5)

While the Lightning were ecstatic to pick up their first win of the season Saturday against the Hurricanes, Tampa Bay supporters would like to see more offensive production from Vincent Lecavalier.

The superstar center was expected to get off to a quick start because of the offseason addition to playmaker winger Alex Tanguay, but Lecavalier is yet to score a goal after his first four games.

“[Tanguay and Lecavalier] have had a lot of chances. I’d be worried if they weren’t getting them,” Lightning coach Rick Tochett told the St. Petersburgh Times.

It sounds like goalie Mike Smith will make his first start since getting run over by the Devils Jamie Langenbrunner. Smith compared the impact to getting hit by a small truck.

Expect the Lightning to break out offensively and the Panthers to convert several chances against a netminder coming off an injury.

Calgary Stampeders at Montreal Alouettes (-6, 51.5)

Will this be a preview of the next Grey Cup? It could very well be. The Alouettes will most likely play without RB Avon Cobourne (groin injury) but their running game should still be potent with backup Brendan Whittaker. Montreal’s Anthony Calvillo and Calgary’s Henry Burris are two of the best quarterbacks in the game. Both can throw to some of the best wide receivers in the business. But Burris has been a disappointment in his last three outings, with a QB rating of only 57.1. Calgary won a narrow 15-14 win against Hamilton last week without scoring a touchdown – the first since 1995. It will be tough for Burris to rebound against the tightest defence in the CFL. The last time these two teams met, the Alouettes won 40-27 in the season opener in Calgary. Despite Cobourne’s absence, the Als, at home, should once again prevail.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Hamilton Tiger Cats (-6, 47)

Veteran QB Kevin Glenn would sure like to face the team that rejected him after last season. But Quinton Porter is the No. 1 QB in Hamilton and, despite Glenn’s displeasure with that situation, nothing gives the impression that coach Marcel Bellefeuille has changed his mind. The Tiger Cats, after pulling a few upsets, have lost three of their last four games. This will be a game with much at stake. With a third win in a row, the Bombers would rise to second place in the East, tied with the Tiger Cats. These two teams will meet again on November 8 in the last game of the regular season. The Bombers have made peace with veteran linebacker Barrin Simpson, who returned to the practice field Wednesday but it is still unclear whether he will play or not on this Thanksgiving game. But the Bombers will be in need of a middle linebacker after Joe Lobendahn was injured last week against the Eskimos and I would be surprised if Simpson didn’t play Monday. Wide Receiver Terrence Edward, who missed the last two games due to a concussion, could also be back in the lineup. Import DE Gavin Walls missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury and may miss the game. Last time these two met in Hamilton, The Tiger Cats won 25-13. Expect a similar result.
