  • College Football Trend that can't be ignored

I'm really not a trends player, really not interested in a team's record when coming off back-to-back 3 point losses when playing in the mountain time zone, or any such nonsense.

I am often looking for a strategic "under" in the college landscape, and have often found that these hit at a very nice percentage in "public" games.

As a result, I have been playing quite a few of the ESPN-ized midweek games, and unders have been absolutely magical to me. After watching tonight's rain-slogged first half, in which cashing the first half Under was a given about 2 possessions in, I thought I would pass along a pretty mind-blowing trend.

Teams ARE NOT scoring in the first half of these games. Strange schedules? ESPN hype? Nighttime adjustments to a daytime game?? Who knows, but the proof is there. I'm not saying that this unbelievable streak will continue, but I do advise you that before you jump on the public bandwagon and bang another first half OVER, know that Vegas has been cleaning up on these wagers. Here are the First Half Totals and results of all non-traditional, or midweek games in the last 3 weeks.
    Thursday September 24, 2009
    Ole Miss 3, S. Carolina 6
    1H Total: O/U 27
    Result: UNDER

    Friday September 25, 2009
    Missouri 12, Nevada 7
    1H Total: O/U 30.5
    Result: UNDER

    Wednesday September 30, 2009
    Hawaii 6, La Tech 10
    1H Total: O/U 27.5
    Result: UNDER

    Thursday October 1, 2009
    Colorado 10, W Va 14
    1H Total: O/U 27.5
    Result: UNDER

    Thursday October 1, 2009
    Southern Miss 10, UAB 10
    1H Total: O/U 27
    Result: UNDER

    Friday October 2, 2009
    Toledo 14, Ball State 10
    1H Total: O/U 30.5
    Result: UNDER

    Thursday October 1, 2009
    Utah State 7, B YU 21
    TOTAL O/U 32
    Result: UNDER

    Tuesday October 6, 2009
Middle Tenn St 0, Troy 14
    1H Total: O/U 28
    Result: UNDER

    Thursday October 8, 2009
    Missouri 9, Nebraska 0
    1H Total: O/U 26
    Result: UNDER

Again, the results speak for themselves. I am not saying that every game will continue to go under, but there is something there, I have been profiting from it, and I thought I would pass along. Good luck all.

I have been doing the same thing.

          You are right on track.

Last year we bet the first half under in the bowl games and most seemed to hit. Teams out for a while, rusty and don't seem to score many points in the first 1/2. This will be something to watch again this year.

          Thanks

Sorry if it wasn't clear Skyz. I'm simply saying that for nine games in a row that take place on any day other than Saturday (and are all nationally televised, highly publicized, and late night affairs), taking the under in the 1st half is not only winning, it's winning easily. From the field goal only 1st half in the S. Carolina/Ole Miss game to last night's 2-0 score with 3:00 left in the first half, the totals have been large, and the points scored have been paltry.

In all of these games, while most have stayed under, there has been more scoring in the second half in EVERY contest. Again, one game has nothing to do with the next, but there seems to be something about the pomp, circumstance, and bright lights, and ESPN crews that is making one offense after another take quite awhile to find a rhythm.

                          Hey, Ken.

Yeah, this game definitely qualifies, and at 10-0, this has been a pretty amazing streak.

I have to tell you though, that I will be laying off this game, as the Sun Belt is probably the conference I have the least knowledge of, and because the brief research I have done on this game does not suggest that either side offers a shutdown defense. Both teams do more than twice as much scoring on the ground, which is typically a factor that favors unders.

Roulette players will tell you that 10 in a row on any one outcome is a damned rare feat, and while 11 is certainly possible, and I have been scared off of even considering the over at this point, I've decided to watch from a position of curiosity rather than risk.

                          Good luck.

I've heard it said of great surfers that they never question the wave, they simply ride the wave. I should have kept surfing this one. Non-Saturday ESPN games are now 11-0 in last 11 on going under COMFORTABLY first half.
