A little bird told me to expect a AAA lineup from the Blue Jays today, and it came true. This franchise is in disarray, having openly shopped their franchise pitcher, only to come away from the trading deadline with nothing. Toronto's record since the trading deadline passed? 12-21.
Then, this morning's words of wisdom from skipper Cito Gaston: “RIGHT NOW, IT'S KIND OF TOUGH TO SEE HOW WE'RE GOING TO BE BETTER BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON.”
Scott Baker takes the mound against Toronto today, and there are two Blue Jays who have a history of pounding the ball off of Baker -- Vernon Wells and Aaron Hill. Neither of them is in the lineup, and the 3 and 4 holes in this lineup are instead filled with Adam Lind (1 for 4 career vs Baker) and Lyle Overbay (1 for 7 career vs Baker). The bottom third of this lineup includes Bautista, Chavez, and McDonald, and, given that, it is tough to argue with Cito Gaston about this team not getting any better, when the Twins will counter with their best possible order.
At odds this low, and with a lineup that looks doomed to struggle, I love this play large.
Good luck all.
