I got off to a so-so start last weekend with three easy wins (A & M, North Texas and Cal) and two ugly losses (UTEP and Rutgers).
2* Washington State +2
Hawaii is an awful team with a terrible coach. The program is headed for the toilet it was in before June Jones turned it around. They had trouble at home last week to FCS team Central Arkansas before eking out a win. Wash State was brutally bad last year but is more experienced this year and will be highly motivated to get a rare win at home against a lousy opponent.
1* San Jose State +13 1/2
SJ State is being downgraded because of last week's 56-3 loss but that was USC. Utah is way overrated after last year's brilliant season but lost a lot of talent and was unconvincing last week against Utah State.
1* UNLV +7
Some trends never reverse: Oregon State always plays terribly in its first road game under Mike Riley. UNLV has its best team in years and a very good QB. I predict a straight up upset.
1* North Texas +3
I won big with North Texas last week when it beat Ball State on the road as 17 point dogs. Keep riding this team. QB Riley Dodge is one of the best freshmen in the country (maybe the best) and played very well in his first career start after being redshirted last year. North Texas also has a solid running game. Ohio U lost at home to UConn and may wilt in the heat. North Texas was 1-11 last year and it will take the public forever to learn how improved this team is.
