            Write-up

            Thursday's games

Georgia Tech won four of last five games vs Clemson, winning last two at this site, 10-9/13-3; average total in last four series games, 27.8. Tech covered just one of last seven as a favorite vs Clemson. Tigers ran ball 56 times for just 85 yards in last two series games; they're -7 in turnovers in last four meetings. Clemson was just 9-21 passing last week vs Middle Tennessee (37-14 win), but had 202 rushing yards, 159 in air. Tech beat up on I-AA Jacksonville State last week, running ball for 335 yards.

            Friday's Game

Very fast turnaround for visiting Colorado, which lost to Colorado State at home Sunday night, getting outrushed 168-29; Buffs trailed 20-3 at the half, rallied in second half but lost as 10.5-point HF. Toledo lost 52-31 at Purdue, giving up 315 rushing yards. Rockets were 41-69/423 passing ball; they converted 10-19 on 3rd down. Colorado is 4-6 as a fave under Hawkins, 1-1 on road. Toledo is 8-3 as a home underdog since 2001.

            Saturday's Games
            Top games

East Carolina was 23-29/243 passing in LY's 24-3 upset win over West Virginia, their first series win in eight tries (six of seven losses were by 17+ points.). Pirates lost last six visits to this site by average of 21 pts (1-4-1 vs spread). ECU was just 12-27 passing vs Appalachian State in 29-24 opening win (was 27-7 at half) last week. Mountaineers had 195 rushing yards, 243 passing in their 33-20 opening win against Liberty.

Home team won last five Iowa-Iowa State games; Hawkeyes lost their last two visits here, 23-3/15-13. Cyclones don't have TD in last 10 Q's in series- four of last five series totals were 28 or less. Iowa covered two of last nine as road favorite, nine of last 27 in game after a win. State is 10-7 as home underdog since '05. Last week, Hawkeyes needed two blocked FGs in last 0:10 to hold off I-AA Northern Iowa, 17-16. State had 204 rushing yards, 238 passing in 34-17 win over North Dakota State.

Auburn won seven of last eight games vs Mississippi State, but lost to Bulldogs two years ago, and beat them 3-2 LY (-9), in game that Tigers outgained State 315-116. Five of Auburn's last six series wins are by 28+ points. Tigers covered eight of last 24 as a favorite, six of last 18 as home fave. State is 12-19-1 as road dog since 2002. Auburn had 301 yards on ground, 255 in air LW vs La Tech (won 37-13; was 13-10 at half). State had 12 penalties for 152 yards in 45-7 destruction of I-AA Jackson St.

Duke lost 24-16 to I-AA Richmond last week, passing for 350 yards but giving up blocked punt for a TD- they only had 16 rushed for 19 yards vs I-AA foe, a definite red flag. Army is 4-3 as home favorite since '02; Cadets beat Eastern Michigan 27-14 last week, running ball for 300 yds, passing for 8. Blue Devils are 26-14 vs spread in last 40 road games (dog in 39 of the 40). Duke is 14-91 SU since 2000.

Stanford makes long trip east after Pac-10 win at Washington State last week; remember Cal got ambushed in similar trip at Maryland last year. Wake Forest lost 24-21 at home to Baylor in opener (outgained by Bears 366-269). Stanford is 12-10-1 vs spread on road since '05- they've got 17 starters back this season, but are starting redshirt freshman QB. Deacons are 8-20-1 as home favorite this decade; QB Skinner has 37 career starts, but Wake's defense has only four returning starters from last year.

Underdog is 3-1-1 vs spread in last five South Carolina-Georgia games, with visitor winning four of the five. Dawgs have just one offensive TD in last eight Q's vs Carolina. Georgia is 10-16 as a home favorite since '04 and 2-6 vs spread in game right after its last eight losses. Gamecocks are 8-4-1 as road underdog under Spurrier (12-6-1 vs spread in last 19 road games). Carolina beat NC State 7-3 last week (256-133 TY). Dawgs lost 24-10 at Oklahoma State (outgained 307-257). Average total in last five series games, 27.

UCLA intercepted four Tennessee passes in first half LY, upset Vols in Rose Bowl opener, 27-24 (+7.5), in game they outrushed Bruins 177-29. Vols are 7-3-1 vs spread in last 11 games as favorite, but they're playing Florida next week, so could hold back some stuff here. UCLA covered 18 of last 28 as underdog, but were 1-3 as road LY in Neuheisel's first year with Bruins. UCLA beat San Diego State 33-14 last week, blocking field goal for TD. Tennessee had 657 yards in 63-7 win vs WKU last week.

Oregon had horrific opener in Boise, losing 19-8 and losing best running back Blount after post-game incident. Ducks covered 15 of last 21 as a home favorite- they rallied from 20-3 deficit to win in OT at Purdue last year, running ball for 306 yards. Purdue beat Toledo 52-31 last week, in game where they got lit up for 423 passing yards. Boilers are 7-5 vs the spread as road dog since 2006. Interesting to see how Coach Kelly gets his Ducks to play after the worst possible debut last week.

This is just second time in last 11 meetings Notre Dame is favored over Michigan; home team won eight of last ten series games, with underdogs winning six of nine SU. Michigan is starting freshman QB- they were 15 of 28 for 197 passing yards in opener. irish have nine starters back on offense, Michigan has 10. Wolverines are 10-8 as an underdog since '00, 2-3 at home. I'm guessing Wolverines will cover WR Floyd better than Nevada did last week-- Irish were 17-20/332 passing.

Virginia lost 26-14 at home to Wm & Mary last week, turning ball over seven times (-6); they have senior QB (23 starts) but only five starters back on offense, six on defense. Cavaliers are 32-16 vs spread at home since 2001. TCU hasn't played yet; they've got only four starters back on defense, six on offense, but have junior QB with 23 starts under his belt. Horned Frogs are 7-12-1 as road favorite since '03. Should be a big edge for Virginia having already played, but they lost to a I-AA team.

Minnesota opens its new stadium off a 23-20 OT win at Syracuse, in a game where Gophers held Orange scoreless in second half/OT. Air Force crushed Nicholls State 72-0 last week, running option for 474 yards, but hard to tell much from that. Falcons are 17-12 vs spread as home dog in this decade; Minnesota is 2-5 as home favorite under Brewster. Red flag for Minnesota was 19-42 passing in dome, though they got ball to WR Decker in big spots. Syracuse only had 90 yards on 34 runs last week.

Now that Oklahoma State beat Georgia, they have to validate it with win over 15-point dog Houston, which gave up 699 yards in 56-37 loss LY to OSU (+15). Cougars are 6-4 as road dog since 2005- they jogged 55-7 last week, with 32-44/447 passing state vs NW Louisiana, so hard to tell much there. Cowboys were +3 in turnovers last week, but had 106 yds in penalties- they outgained Dawgs 307-257. OSU covered nine of last 11 as home favorite, 15 of last 23 non-league games.

LSU had solid 31-23 win at improved Washington last week, but they were outgained 478-321; Huskies were 25-45/321 passing, but threw a key pick-6. Tigers are 8-17 vs spread as home favorite under Les Miles, 11-24-2 vs spread in game following a win. Vanderbilt is 17-5 vs spread in last 22 games as road dog; they're 27-21 vs spread in SEC since '03, but haven't won in Baton Rouge since 1951. Vandy had 433 yards on the ground in 45-0 win over I-AA Western Carolina, a hard win to evaluate.

USC crushed Ohio State 35-3 LY, outgaining Buckeyes 348-207; Trojans crushed San Jose State 56-3 last week, running for 342 yards, passing for 278 more- they're 13-15 vs spread in last 28 games as road fave. OSU is 47-4 SU at home since 2002, but just 4-6 vs spread as an underdog under Tressel, 1-2 at home- they're 26-16 vs spread after a win. Buckeyes had huge trouble with Navy last week, stopping tying 2-point play at 2:33 to play in game. First road start for USC freshman QB Barkley.

-- Rice is 10-14 as road dog since '05 after getting waxed 44-24 at UAB last week (+5.5). Texas Tech plays Texas next week, so lookahead is a possibility, but they had 34-48/405 passing stats in Potts' first start.

Georgia Tech opened at -4.5 and this line has been moving in the last few days. It jumped to -5.5 in some places Tuesday morning but eventually climbed back down to the original number by late afternoon. As of Wednesday morning, the Yellow Jackets had moved back up to -5-point favorites.

The total opened at 41 and has climbed slightly to 42.5.

              Injuries

There are no major injuries on either side but some players could miss time. For the Yellow Jackets, linebacker Kyle Jackson and wide receiver Tyler Melton, both projected sophomore starters, did not play last week and are doubtful again this week. For Clemson, running back C.J. Spiller had to leave last week’s game against Middle Tennessee with a hamstring injury but is probable this week.

              Weather

The game-time forecast calls for a high of 77 degrees with a 35 percent chance of a thunderstorm.

              National exposure

Last season, Thursday night was a cash cow for the home teams that were featured on ESPN primetime.

During the 15 weeks of the regular season, the home team went 12-3 straight up and 12-3 ATS on Thursday. Those records are more coincidental than anything and they have nothing to do with this matchup but going contrarian last season (going against the public betting the home teams) would have put one in the poorhouse. This will balance out more in 2009.

              Underachievers to overachievers?

Clemson is one of the biggest underachieving teams in recent years. The Tigers have not had a losing season since 1998 and they have gone to seven bowl games since then, but none have been any major bowl games.

Their last big January bowl game came way back in the 1982 Orange Bowl. There isn’t a whole lot expected this season, so maybe with no pressure, good things can happen. Clemson is projected by some to be the sleeper team in the ACC Atlantic.

              Battle in the trenches

According to preseason previews, the Tigers possess the seventh-best offensive line and the third-best defensive line in the nation. And that is where games are won and lost.

The Yellow Jackets are not as strong along the defensive line, so Clemson could take advantage with tough back C.J. Spiller. Georgia Tech’s offensive line is in the top half of the ACC and along with the best backfield, the running game should be just fine against the stout Tigers.

              Special teams

Clemson won the yardage battle against the Blue Raiders last week by just 62 total yards. But the Tigers still won comfortably thanks to special teams.

Clemson returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and it also returned a punt for a touchdown late in the second quarter. Not to be outdone, Georgia Tech also returned a punt for a touchdown against Jacksonville State.

Special teams could play a big part in this game, especially if the line of scrimmage strengths hold up.

Clemson at Georgia Tech [ESPN | 7:45 PM ET]

Clemson: The key for Clemson could be if its excellent run defense can contain Georgia Tech’s triple-option offense. The Tigers ranked fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference last year in rush defense at 127.4 yards per game. The Tigers limited Middle Tennessee to 92 yards on the ground in 37 attempts, a 2.4 yard average, in a 37-14 opening week victory. The Tigers’ star all-purpose runner C.J. Spiller got Clemson started with a 96-yard kickoff return. Spiller, though, tweaked his hamstring during a second-quarter 50-yard punt return and sat out the rest of the game. He is expected to play. Spiller missed last year’s 21-17 loss to Georgia Tech because of an injured hamstring. Kyle Parker became Clemson’s first freshman quarterback to start a season-opener since 1945. Parker was 9-for-20 for 159 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. The underdog has covered 12 of the last 14 in the series.

Clemson is 16-5 ATS the past 21 times it has been an underdog.
The Under has cashed in 11 of Clemson’s last 15 games.

Key Injuries - Running back C.J. Spiller (hamstring) is probable.

PROJECTED SCORE: 20 (Side of the Day)

Georgia Tech (-5, O/U 43): Georgia Tech is the front-runner for the ACC Coastal Division title along with Virginia Tech, but the Yellow Jackets weren’t especially sharp in their opening 37-17 win against Jacksonville State. Georgia Tech fumbled five times and dropped several passes. Running back Jonathan Dwyer and quarterback Josh Nesbitt combined to rush for 188 yards on 21 attempts and three touchdowns. The Yellow Jackets piled up 497 yards, 335 on the ground. Georgia Tech has a deep running crop so the matchup sets up as strength (Clemson’s run defense) versus strength (Georgia Tech’s running attack). The Yellow Jackets’ Paul Johnson is one of the most respected coaches with his teams compiling a 44-24 against-the-spread mark during his past 68 games against lined opponents. The Yellow Jackets are 7-3-1 against the spread in their last 11 games. However, they have failed to cover in four of their last five home games versus Clemson.

The Under is 15-5 during Georgia Tech’s past 20 Thursday games.
The Under is 6-2 in the Yellow Jackets’ last eight ACC contests.

Key Injuries - Running back Roddy Jones (wrist) is probable.

                PROJECTED SCORE: 24

Game of the day: Colorado at Toledo
                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colorado Buffaloes at Toledo Rockets (+3.5, 54.5)

                        Disappointing Starts

Colorado and Toledo enter the second week of this young college football season looking for their first victory. The Buffaloes head into Friday night's game having minimal time to prepare after opening their season Sunday.

The Buffs lost their season opener to Colorado State 23-17, totaling just 251 yards in that 6-point loss to their in-state rival. It was just Colorado’s fifth loss in season openers since 1988. The Buffs now have to travel to Ohio to face the Toledo Rockets.

First year head coach Tim Beckman and the rest of the Rockets had their share of problems in their season opener. The Rockets suffered a 21-point loss to Purdue, giving up 513 total yards and 52 points to the Boilermakers.

This will be the first ever matchup between Toledo and Colorado. Toledo is 2-4 vs. current Big 12 opponents with both wins coming at home. Those wins include a 1-point victory vs. Iowa State 2007 and 6-point victory vs. Kansas in 2006.

The Buffs have played only one other MAC team since 1980. That game was in Colorado in 2007 and the Buffaloes crushed Miami (Ohio) 42-0 as 13.5-point favorites. However, CU has dropped four straight non-conference road games by 15 ppg.

                        Looking on the Bright Side

It’s not all bad news for the Rockets and Buffaloes after dropping their season openers.

Despite losing by 21 points and surrendering 513 total yards, the Rockets gained 493 yards and had more first downs and longer time of possession than the Boilermakers. Rockets QB Aaron Opelt had 423 yards passing, completing 41 passes to eight different receivers.

Colorado’s defense didn’t have a horrible game in the opener either. The Buffs gave up five big plays that totaled 215 yards, meaning CSU gained 161 on its other 57 plays from scrimmage (2.8 yards per play). The Rams missed on their last 10 third-down conversions and had four three-and-outs in their last six possessions.

                        Potential Problems

Though it’s only the second week of the season, both teams already have a lot of questions to answer.

On paper, one of Colorado’s strengths was its offensive line. It also return its top two tailbacks, Rodney Stewart and Darrell Scott, who combined for over 1,000 yards in 2008.

On the other side of the ball, Colorado State’s defensive line looked to be the weak link of a defense that was torched for 190 yards per game on the ground last year. Despite that perceived advantage, the Buffaloes managed just 29 rushing yards on 21 carries (1.4 ypc).

Stewart & Scott get an opportunity to redeem themselves against Toledo. The Rockets surrendered 315 rushing yards to Purdue on an astonishing 8.1 yards per carry.

Toledo will be without Morgan Williams, their most productive running back from a year ago (1,053 yards, 6 touchdowns). Williams was suspended in early September for unspecified disciplinary reasons and will miss this, the second game of his two-game suspension.

                        Line Movements

The line on this game opened at Colorado -3. It has crept up to -3.5 early and now sits at -4 at most places. The total opened at 59 and was hammered down to 53.5 within a half hour of its release. It has now risen to 54.5 at the majority of books and it seems to have stabilized.

                        Trends

The Buffs have been tabbed road favorites for the first time since 2007. They are coming off a SU loss to rival Colorado State last week. When CU is a road favorite off a SU loss, they are just 4-8 ATS (33 percent) dating back to the 1994 season.

The Glass Bowl can be a tough venue for an opponent, which is why Toledo has been a home dog just 11 times since the start of the 2000 season. The Rockets are 8-3 ATS in that role. In that same time span, they are 4-1 ATS as a home puppy coming off a SU loss (they lost to Purdue last week).

                        Weather

The outlook for Friday night is partly cloudy and mild. The temperature will stick around 60 degrees with 10-15 mph winds. No rain is expected.

College football weekend cheat sheet: Week 2
                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's only one game pitting two top-25 games this week, but it’s a doozy. Here’s a quick look at all the ranked teams in action (unless they are facing an FCS school).

                          Troy at No. 1 Florida (-36, 59)

UF coach Urban Meyer claims Troy has more NFL talent than “several” SEC schools. Then why did the Trojans lose by 17 points to Bowling Green last week? Troy did nearly beat LSU last year, leading 31-3 at one point.

Florida allowed 31 points the last time Troy visited in 2007, so Meyer will remind his Gators of that. But Troy has lost eight in a row to ranked opponents.

                          No. 2 Texas at Wyoming (+32.5, 56.5)

How on earth did Wyoming get Texas to visit for this one? The Horns are the highest-ranked team ever to play in Laramie. Cowboys coach Dave Christensen is Missouri’s former offensive coordinator, so he should know what to expect from UT.

It’s not like Texas will lose here, but UT could get caught looking ahead to dealing with high-flying Texas Tech next week. Plus the Horns will be playing at an altitude of 7,220 feet above sea level – Wyoming’s stadium is the highest above sea level in Division I.

No. 3 Southern Cal at No. 7 Ohio State (+6.5, 45)

Remember that USC will again be without No. 2 wideout Ronald Johnson (also a great return man) because of his broken collarbone. Starting center Kristofer O’Dowd is expected back after missing the season opener while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Frankly, both the Big Ten and Ohio State need this game or that conference will be limited to one BCS bowl berth this year because respect for it is dropping. While USC romped in this game last year, Terrell Pryor wasn’t starting then. Dual-threat QBs have given USC trouble in the past.

Florida International at No. 4 Alabama (-34, 48.5)

Well, FIU had about eight months to prepare for this game, as the school didn’t play last week. Nick Saban called Golden Panthers WR T.Y. Hilton a better offensive player than anyone the Tide saw against Virginia Tech.

The Tide seem sure to have a slight letdown after playing Virginia Tech. Alabama tailback Mark Ingram (150 yards vs. Hokies) has the flu but is expected to play.

Syracuse at No. 5 Penn State (-28.5, 52)

First-year QB Greg Paulus looked decent last week against Minnesota. But the Orange won’t have starting outside linebacker Ryan Gillum because of injury.

Nittany Lions star LB Navorro Bowman might not play, as he is still bothered by a pulled groin after taking himself out of Saturday’s win over Akron.

Houston at No. 6 Oklahoma State (-15.5, 67.5)

This game should be fun. Behind Case Keenum, the Cougars will score. They did put up 37 points in last year’s loss. But they can’t stop anyone and they can’t run the ball.

OSU will make Houston a one-dimensional passing team. The often-maligned Cowboy defense held Georgia to just 95 yards on the ground last week. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State rushed for 379 yards and four TDs last year against the Cougars.

                          Vanderbilt at No. 9 LSU (-14.5, 44.5)

Don’t laugh, but Vandy currently has the No. 2 rushing attack in the country after gaining 433 yards on the ground in a win over Western Carolina.

Les Miles will have LSU focused after the Tigers were sloppy at Washington last week. Plus LSU, which has won five in a row in this series, lost its final three SEC home games last year - if it needs any more motivation.

Miami of Ohio at No. 11 Boise State (-37, 51.5)

This one has letdown game written all over it for Boise State, coming after the big home win over Oregon and a trip to Fresno State next week.

Other than not focusing, there’s no reason for Boise not to cover. Miami won just twice last year and was crushed 42-0 by Kentucky last week, totaling just 188 yards.

                          No. 12 BYU at Tulane (+17.5, 53)

BYU is another team apt for a letdown after what it did to Oklahoma last week. The Cougars held the Sooners to their fewest points in three years and Tulane is not a good offensive team.

Tulane owns the nation's third-longest losing streak, losing to Tulsa last week for its ninth consecutive setback. But the team did play much better, especially QB Joe Kemp, after falling down 17-0.

Marshall at No. 15 Virginia Tech (-19, 43.5)

The Herd have to be salivating at dealing with Virginia Tech’s offensive line after the Hokies had 155 yards of offense last week and QB Tyrod Taylor was sacked five times and finished with minus 26 rushing yards.

Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster promised his unit will respond after getting gouged last week for 498 total yards by Alabama. Tech hasn’t dropped a home opener in 14 years.

                          No. 16 TCU at Virginia (+11, 40.5)

There’s no way the Horned Frogs would have been giving 11 points before Virginia was beaten at home by William & Mary last week. TCU didn’t allow a TD its final two opponents of 2008 and could start 2009 the same way.

Even TCU coach Gary Patterson admits he is leery of the Cavs off that embarrassing loss. And maybe the Frogs are rusty since they haven’t played yet. Virginia is 12-17 against ranked teams under coach Al Groh.

No. 17 Utah at San Jose State (+13.5, 47.5)

The Utes have the nation’s longest winning streak and just watched as San Jose State mustered all of nine yards rushing and 1-for-16 on third downs last week against USC.

As for the Spartans, they might be catching Utah in a look-ahead game, as the Utes visit Oregon next week.

Arkansas State at No. 18 Nebraska (-21.5, 56.5)

The Red Wolves might be able to move the ball some against Nebraska, as the Huskers allowed 358 yards to Florida Atlantic last week, drawing the ire of Coach Bo Pelini.

Both Nebraska running back Roy Helu and quarterback Zac Lee were impressive last week. Helu had 152 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Over the past five regular season games, he is averaging 7.7 yards per carry.

No. 19 North Carolina at Connecticut (+4, 45.5)

If last year is any indication, the Heels should roll. They blocked three punts and intercepted three passes in a 38-12 win. Also, UNC’s starting offensive line is on average 40 pounds bigger than the Huskies’ defensive front four.

UConn won’t have to deal with Heels WR Dwight Jones, who remains out following knee surgery. Huskies QB Zach Frazer must improve dramatically from last week’s game vs. Ohio.

No. 20 Notre Dame at Michigan (+3.5, 47.5)

In his past two games, Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen has been arguably the best signal-caller in college football. The Irish won’t have starting fullback James Aldridge, who hurt his shoulder against Nevada.

The Wolverines, meanwhile, appear to have found a QB of their own in freshman Tate Forcier. The UM defense was very good against Western Michigan QB Tim Hiller, who is an NFL prospect. Notre Dame has lost nine of its past 12 road openers.

South Carolina at No. 21 Georgia (-6.5, 37.5)

Take the under in this one. Only once this decade in this series has either team scored more than 21 points. And the Gamecocks, who lost to Georgia 14-7 last year, looked great on defense last week against N.C. State.

Georgia’s offense didn’t look good against Oklahoma State, but South Carolina was much worse against an inferior opponent. Dawgs QB Joe Cox will start again after struggling against the Cowboys, but the team may start to mix in backup Logan Gray.

No. 24 Oregon State at UNLV (+7, 53.5)

OSU may add another weapon in former starting QB Lyle Moevao. He could be ready to play after not being at full strength since offseason rotator cuff surgery. He won’t start, however.

UNLV was a solid team last year, beating Arizona State and hanging with BYU. The Beavers have lost six road openers in a row and eight of their last nine non-conference road games.

                          No. 25 Kansas at UTEP (+12.5, 62.5)

The Jayhawks cruised against Northern Colorado in their opener despite sitting star WR Dezmon Briscoe because of suspension. But he is expected to play on Saturday as KU looks to end a six-year winless streak (but just three games) on the road against non-conference teams.

The Miners lost at home to MAC team Buffalo last week and are 3-44 all-time against ranked opponents, including nine straight losses since 1997. Two defensive starters, Anthony Morrow and Cornelius Brown, were cleared from injury and will play this week.

                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colorado at Toledo [ESPN | 9:00 PM ET]

Colorado (-3.5, O/U 54): Colorado closed 2008 on a sour note losing seven of its last nine games and the Buffaloes were upset by Colorado State in their opener this season, 23-17. The Buffaloes are 2-7 against the spread in their past nine games. Colorado passed for 222 yards versus Colorado State, but rushed for just 29 yards. The Buffaloes are 1-6 against the spread in their next game after failing to accumulate at least 275 yards of offense during their previous game. They also are 1-5 against the number following a loss. Highly-touted sophomore running back Darrell Scott had just one carry against Colorado State. Quarterback Cody Hawkins was sacked four times. Now the Buffaloes are traveling on a short week and laying points. This is their first game on artificial turf this season. The Buffaloes have gone under in five of the last six games they played on carpet.

The Under has cashed in 11 of Colorado’s last 14 non-conference matchups.

Key Injuries - Defensive end Nick Kasa (knee) is doubtful.

                            PROJECTED SCORE: 28

Toledo: Toledo is 27-13 against the spread in its 40 home games. Senior quarterback Aaron Opelt threw for 423 yards and three touchdowns in the Rockets’ 52-31 opening-week road loss to Purdue. Wide receivers Stephen Williams and Eric Page each had more than 100 receiving yards and combined for three touchdowns. While the Rockets’ passing attack shined, their defense was a huge disappointment. Toledo returned 10 starters from one of the Mid-American Conference’s better defenses, but surrendered 500 yards of total offense to Purdue. New Rockets head coach Tim Beckman is familiar with Colorado of the Big 12 since he was the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State the previous two years. Toledo is 8-3 against the spread in its last 11 games as a home ‘dog. The Rockets have covered five of seven times they’ve been a field goal or more ‘dog at the Glass Bowl since 2004.

The Under is 10-4-1 in the Rockets’ last 15 games..

Key Injuries - Running back Morgan Williams (suspension) is doubtful.

PROJECTED SCORE: 25 (Side of the Day)
