      Six-pack for Saturday

-- Cowboys built a $1.2B stadium that seems great, except punters are hitting the huge video screen with punts-- its just too low.

-- Bronx Bombers got 10 hits on 18 balls they put in ball against Brad Penny Friday night-- Red Sox just don't have enough pitching.

-- Scott Kazmir came up with an important win as Tampa Bay picked up a game on both Texas, Boston by beating the Rangers 5-3.

-- Randy Wolf allowed only one hit in seven IP as Dodgers beat Cubs 2-1. Wolf's surprising success is keeping LA atop the NL West.

-- Bad night for the Rockies, who got beat by the Giants and also lost Aaron Cook with a sore shoulder. Their Wild Card lead is shaky.

-- What happens in Minnesota if Tavaris Jackson keeps going 12-15 for 202 yards? Will the Vikings really keep four QBs?

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday's List of 13: Our major league baseball List of 13.........

      13) Atlanta-- Adam LaRoche has been crushing the ball since he got dealt twice in same week, by Pirates/Red Sox. LaRoche is hitting .410 in his 61 AB for Atlanta, with seven home runs.

      12) Detroit-- Polanco saved game Frday with his tremendous pickup of smash hit by Garciaparra in 9th inning-- tying run scores if ball gets by him. Ryan Raburn hit two solo homers for the first-place Tigers.

      11) Florida-- Anibal Sanchez came off DL and no-hit Braves for first five innings Friday, then after long 9th inning rain delay, Hermida made great throw from RF wall to nail batter trying for double. Good win for Fish.

      10) Colorado-- Rockies have wealth of outfield talent; Sub Seth Smith is hitting .294 with a .389 OB%, but Carlos Gonzalez plays ahead of him. Will be interesting to see if they trade an OF for pitching this winter.

      9) Boston-- We keep hearing how much young pitching Red Sox have, but where are they? Sox are fading in AL Wild Card race, as we see the by-product of their bringing in Smoltz, Penny last winter, while Bronx was spending millions on All-Star pitchers.

      8) Texas-- As an A's fan, rooting for Ron Washington to make playoffs; its odd to note that Rangers have allowed fewer runs than any AL team, has to be the first time for that. Nolan Ryan doing great job as president.

      7) San Francisco-- They traded for Fragile Freddy Sanchez, but he's been hurt more than healthy since being dealt. Sanchez came up big Friday in first game of Colorado series, but they still need more offense, which is why they put a claim in on the miserable human Gary Sheffield. .

      6) Tampa Bay-- Rays couldn't have used Billy Wagner? Funny how it worked out, but Tampa did Adam Kennedy a favor, trading him to A's so he could play; then Iwamura got hurt, and they had to use Zobrist at 2B-- hell, Zobrist is one of the best 2B in the league right now.

      5) LA Angels-- They pound on bad teams, but does anyone think they have enough pitching to win in October?

      4) LA Dodgers-- Injuries to Kuroda, Billingsley leave rotation thin and their lead in NL West has been shrinking. On plus side, Martin hit grand slam Thursday, after hitter in front of him was walked intentionally.

      3) Philadelphia-- Pedro Martinez pitches at Citi Field Sunday, so that is going to be interesting. Cliff Lee is 4-0, 0.82 in his first four starts for the Phillies. Simple case of the GM saving a team's season.

      2) St Louis-- Interesting to see what Dave Duncan does with Smoltz; if he can turn Jeff Weaver/Joel Pineiro into consistent winners, what will be do with a future Hall of Famer, assuming Smoltz has anything left?

      1) Bronx Bombers-- They have by far most chips to play with, but have to admit they spent them wisely last winter. On serious roll now, will be heading to playoffs as favorite to win first World Series since 2000.
