  • Report: Rockets to swap T-Mac for Amare?

Columnist Peter Vescey's NBA sources indicate the Rockets are "leaning toward" trading Tracy McGrady, Carl Landry and Aaron Brooks to the Suns for Leandro Barbosa and Amare Stoudemire.
Stoudemire has been disgruntled in Phoenix for a while now, and ESPN's Ric Bucher reported on Thursday that he will indeed be traded. The Suns would acquire two solid young players in Landry and Brooks, while gaining financial flexibility with T-Mac's expiring $22 million contract. So far nothing is official, but stay tuned throughout what promises to be a hectic draft day.

I don't see how the Rockets couldn't make this trade.

Phoenix was 46-36 last year, they missed the playoffs by 2 games and they didn't have Amare. Shaq has an expiring contract. Why wouldn't they just ride this out. Nash is almost done. They have Barbosa and J Rich. Why blow it up?

I wondered the same thing BW. There was no chance of winning it all, but they were still a good team, and with Shaq, Amare, Nash and Richardson, I don't see why they thought they weren't playoff caliber. Especially considering where they finished and the run they went on.

If I was a Phoenix Suns fan, I would be pissed. This might be their lineup
            PG Broooks
            SG J Rich
            SF Barnes
            PF Laundry
            C Ben Wallace

Chad Ford: Watch out for the Houston Rockets. Sources say they have been really active during the past 24 hours, having contacted the Grizzlies, Thunder, Kings and Timberwolves about trying to get into the lottery.

It sounds as though virtually everyone on Houston's roster is available. Teams report that the Rockets are trying to parlay Tracy McGrady's expiring contract and Aaron Brooks' newfound celebrity status into one of Minnesota's lottery picks. Carl Landry and Shane Battier also were mentioned as possible trade pieces.

The Rockets also are among several teams that will be making a run at Amare Stoudemire. With Shaq gone, expect the Stoudemire rumors to start to heat up again.

I think the T-Wolves are the key player in this whole draft and trades. Two top 6 picks and 2 others in round 1? I can't see them using them all.

This is a smart deal for the suns on multiple accounts and dumb at the same time. For the immediate future (next season) the suns have all but given up, however, this trade makes too much sense to turn down for the long term benefit of the franchise. Both Tmac and Amare have expiring deals next year so that essentially washes eachother out, the deal then becomes barbosa for landry and brooks.

In my opinion brooks and landry are superior to barbosa, plus you have 2 players instead of 1 which also makes the team deeper. I think the suns are making good moves, considering that they have all but given up on next year, which I don't like as a fan but also understand it is probably what is best in the long term.

If I was Minnesota I would not trade the 5th or 6th picks. They could start a good nucleus there. They lost Mike Miller and Foye, but if they get say Evans and Harden to go with Jefferson, they'd be on their way

I'm not sure they want to pay four 1st rounders and the top 2 are more valuable. I say trade one of the top two picks. Minnesota is always getting younger. Enough already, the fans are sick of starting over. Get some ticket sellers and a proven player or two to go along with the 2 or 3 other 1st round picks (IMO).

If Minny could get Amare with one of those draft picks and draft a guard with 1 or 2 of the other 1st rounders, that would be sweet. You have amare and jefferson in the frontcourt and you draft some nice guards with the other 1st rounders. That is what i would shoot for!

I heard one of these 'insiders' say last night on ESPN thatt here was no way they would trade the 5 or 6...they actually said they were trying to trade the other two to get a 3rd top 10 pick, which I found hard to believe but what do I know...?

It all starts with two early first rounders, just ask the Bulls with Chandler and Curry. But seriously, if they can get Amare for one of them, they should do it. I have a soft spot for the T'Wolves because I've seen Marko Jaric's wife.
