  • Betting Favorites Early

MMA like all other sports seems to have the most money on the favorites the majority of the time. With that said, do you guys think it is better strategy to wager on the favorites you like early (say a couple weeks in advance)? Or do you guys like to wait until the day before, so you can gather as much information on the fight as possible? Even though it may cost you some juice.

In UFC 100 there are several lines in the -220 to -290 range, and (it seems like) these lines go up a lot more often than they go down. Do you guys think it best to wait on the faves you like, or pull the trigger early?

early brother, just like football, favorites right when the line comes out, weeks in advance is better-bet the big dogs night of the fight unless they are popular with the public !!

i like to get most in early as well mavs, (you saw i posted my picks for ufc 100 in the wec 41 flying chunger thread) that was weeks ago, and we are still weeks away.

like i said most, but there are certain fighters particularly one's with constant weight issues, or so called "head problems" that i like to wait on. But like chung said early is better especially with "public" popular fighters. (that's why my play for ufc 101 is posted, and in for me already, and has gone up already, it will go a lot higher IMO)

It's way better to do it early. My book does post fights until the day of. For example when the Velasaquez/Kongo line came out, Cain was +140. I was counting out loud how much $ i was going to win. When my book finally put it out he was -200. So I put considerably less money on him bc I had to wait so long to bet it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, with how you guys sound I'm going to drop some early money on Hendo. Despite the fact that I like Bisping. Lay a couple units on him now, he's a fanfare guy too, who I can see a lot of money flowing in on.

That would be smart. By the time I get to bet Henderson he will probably be around -350.

Thinking of also taking GSP now, as I can see that line climbing REAL high.

I'm on Alves for that fight. I actually think that line drops. If you watch the previews all they say is how this is GSP toughest fight. They show Alves 2 big KO victories. I think a lot of late money will go on Alves.
