South Carolina at Arkansas Game Notes: I am a bit surprised this line opened as high as it did. Arkansas is at home, is the better overall football team and has regained some health at running back. Under normal circumstances, I would price them at about -6 or -6.5 in this game. And given the number is +7.5, a 1 unit play would be put on South Carolina as crossing from +6.5 to +7.5 is a fairly big deal. The head scratcher to me is that these are not normal circumstances. A short week of practice is always difficult for teams and players to adjust to. It throws off the normal routine and does not allow the bumps and bruises from the previous week to heal quite as well. And while I hate to even mention the fact, because it spotlights our nauseating and excruciating loss on Kentucky last week, these abnormal short week circumstances are multiplied by ten for Arkansas. Remember, Arkansas’ 7 OT victory over Kentucky was the longest game in NCAA history, which fell just shy of five hours. It is as though they played two games on Saturday and making matters worse is the game lasted almost until Sunday morning. I cannot emphasize enough what sort of physical toll that game had on the Razorback players and now they have to regroup and play on a short week. Not only that, but they are playing a very tough team. South Carolina lost by just 3 at Ole Miss last week (Arkansas lost by 12 at Ole Miss), the Gamecocks played Florida to within 5-points, lost by only 3-points at Tennessee and beat Kentucky by 6-points (in regulation!!!). The only two teams that beat up on South Carolina were LSU and Georgia and I surmise they would do the same to Arkansas. South Carolina is playing with a 23-0 shutout revenge motive from last year and good ole Lou Holtz is Mr. Motivator himself in these types of situations. The Gamecocks are +9 in turnover ratio and have only two fumbles on the season. This indicates to me that they will not likely beat themselves. With the rapidly developing QB Pinkens and a group of very talented receivers to throw to, SC should keep this one competitive the whole way vs. a weary Razorbacks bunch
