US Open - Short and Sweet Report and The Wager

Joe R is my friend of 35 years and the Director of golf at Bethpage. He and his assistants have had a direct input into how the Black Course has been set up for this week .We’ve had many talks and after listening to Joe and the crew I believe the following to be true:

Tiger will not win this year’s Open

No one will be under par come next Sunday night

The projected winner will come in at +3 or +4



As far as the winner goes … I’ve decided on a real long shot believing that temperment and patience are critical here. I had Argentinian Angel Cabrera for The Masters and now I’m backing his fellow countryman and a man who idolizes The current Masters Champ. My life long friend Carmen lives in Vegas and he is placing our bet there … we are each putting up the same amount … this is not the type of wager to be given out to any old Fat Ass … not at 100 / 1



My pick is Andres Romero , 1000 to win 100,000



At 8:17 on Thursday morning he will be teeing off with Eduardo Romero and Miguel Angel Jimenez on the 10th hole. This I think will be very convenient for me as a spectator … I’ll be ducking away from the massive crowds who will no doubt be milling around and craning their necks over the Woodses , Michaelsons , Furyks etc.

Wow! Where has the time gone? I attended the final round at Bethpage Black in 2002. It's hard to believe 7 years has past.

I played Black a few times. The last time I played was a year or two before moving to Florida. By far the hardest course I've played. In the 80s and 90s the course condition was so so. When I attended the Open in 2002 I could not believe it was the same course. It was beautiful.

I also see 100/1 on Bodog ... which is a little more realistic


Before the wager ( s ) are made my friend will do a little shopping around the casinos in Las Vegas.


Then we'll take on the next hurdle ... making the cut.

I was there yesterday CB. I will tell you if you can get there early and get a seat in the grandstand by 16. From the top right corner you can watch then tee off 15, put on 16 and tee off on 17, and with a good eye watch them come around the dog leg on 1.

Tell your friend the course looks amazing. That rough will be ROUGH.

It was perfect, till the horn blew and lightening ended our day.
