    Daily Sports Roundup

    Daily Sports Roundup: June 3

Today in the Daily Sports Roundup: Reigning AL Cy Young winner Cliff Lee tries to get back into the win column, and Randy Johnson guns for career victory 300.

Meeting up on the diamond . . .

Cliff Lee will be looking to pick up his first victory since May 13 on Wednesday night when his Indians continue their road series in Minnesota. The lefthander, who went 22-3 last season, sits at 2-6 in 2009 despite a solid 3.16 ERA. Lee has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his past nine starts, but the Tribe are just 2-7 in those contests. Taking to the mound for the Twins on Wednesday will be rookie righty Anthony Swarzak, who is 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA over two starts.

Also on the American League schedule for Wednesday: Boston at Detroit, Texas at the Yankees, Kansas City at Tampa Bay, and the Angels at Toronto. Los Angeles probable starter Jered Weaver (4-2, 2.36 ERA) has surrendered just two earned runs on 12 hits over his past two starts (13 innings), and the righthander's WHIP is down to 1.03. The Blue Jays will be looking for a second straight win from righthander Casey Janssen, who sits at 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two outings.

Over in the National League on Wednesday the Dodgers will turn to Chad Billingsley (6-3, 2.80 ERA) in their home game against the Diamondbacks. Righthander Billingsley has been tagged with a loss in each of his past two starts despite allowing just six earned runs over 13 innings pitched. Jon Garland (4-4, 5.75 ERA) gets the ball for Arizona, and he'll be looking to forget his last outing; the righthander was pounded for nine runs by the Braves in his start on May 29.

Rounding out the NL slate for Wednesday: the Mets at Pittsburgh, Milwaukee at Florida, the Cubs at Atlanta, Colorado at Houston, Cincinnati at St. Louis, Philadelphia at San Diego, and San Francisco at Washington. Giants starter Randy Johnson sits at 299 career victories heading into his outing against the Nationals, having held the Braves to one run on three hits over six innings last time out. Johnson is 4-4 on the season, with an ERA of 5.71 over his 52 innings.

      Wednesday six-pack

-- Raul Ibanez hit a couple of homers on his 37th birthday as Phillies cruised 10-5 in San Diego. Rookie Bastardo allowed one run and four hits in six IP in his major league debut-- only run he allowed was HR by Gonzalez, who homered in his fourth consecutive game.

-- Peavy left that game after an inning (flu) as Phillies gained game on the Mets on a night when Santana was facing Pittsburgh and they were up against Peavy. Big night for Philadelphia.

-- Oakland rookie Mazzaro also won his debut, 5-0 in Chicago over the White Sox. Mazzaro allowed three hits in 6.1 IP.

-- Dan Haren held Dodgers to two hits in seven IP, but then Arizona bullpen imploded in 8th inning, as Dodgers rallied for a 6-5 win.

-- Rough night for Lou Piniella, as Cubs led 5-0 in 8th inning but lost in extra innings at Atlanta, 6-5. Cubs are struggling on the road.

-- Miguel Tejada homered in 11th to beat Colorado 3-2; Miggy is now hitting .362 after his 4-6 night.

      ***********************************************

Wednesday's List of 13: Random facts on a June day..........

      13) I'm not a big All-Star Game guy, but I always watch introductions of the players, because it is humbling for even the biggest stars; this year is going to be great, when 37-year old Raul Ibanez is introduced as a 2009 All-Star, the first time in his long career he will be an All-Star.

      12) Record for most RBI in one season without hitting a home run came back in 1902, when Lafayette Cross knocked in 108 runs for Philly A's at the age of 36. He knocked in 100+ runs three times; never hit 10 HRs

      11) So Vince Young wants to be a starting QB; as great as he was in his college career, it would be intriguing for a team like my Rams, but do you entrust your franchise to a guy who has had some shaky moments the last couple of years, mainly off the field? QB is a tough position; lot of expectations, lot of credit/blame dished out. Have to have a thick skin to be a terrific NFL quarterback, but Young hasn't shown that yet.

      10) Speaking of the Rams, I have a recurring nightmare that the guy from Blackberry computers is going to give up trying to buy an NHL team, is going to buy the Rams and move them to Hamilton, Ontario. When you have thoughts like that going through your mind, its hard to sleep well.

      9) Dodgers are 6-6 in last dozen home games after a 13-0 start; June is not their best month. Last winning June for the Dodgers was in 2003.

      8) Weird stat: Adam Dunn has 16 homers, his team has 14 wins.

      7) A's now have four rookies in their five-man starting rotation, with the 24-year Outman the oldest of the four. A's will be good in 2011, if they can find some position players to go with these pitching prospects. Sad news for me is that 2011 is two years from now, but so be it......

      6) I'd like to see swing/misses added as an official pitching stat; what is more basic to pitching than making a batter swing and miss?

      5) Vitaly Lunkin won over $1.8M by winning the first big event at this year's World Series of Poker. Greg Raymer finished third, continuing to show that he is one of the world's great players. All in all, there will be 57 tournaments in this year's WSOP, culminating in Main Event July 3.

      4) NHL office has to be happy the Penguins beat Detroit and kept hope alive for a long, exciting series. Home side won all three games so far.

      3) Only four of ten starters in NBA Finals played college basketball.

      2) If I ran horse racing, the three Triple Crown races would be run on Memorial Day weekend/4th of July/Labor Day weekend. This is so the horses would have more time to recover, and would remain healthier.

      1) Randy Johnson goes for win #300 in Washington Wednesday-- he is going to be the last 300-game winner for a long time, maybe ever.

        SCOREBOARD

        Wednesday, June 3

Chicago Cubs at Atlanta (7:10 p.m. EDT). Chicago's Ted Lilly and Atlanta ace Derek Lowe each go for their seventh win. Lilly went 4-2 with a 3.32 ERA in six May starts while Lowe was 4-2 with a 3.76 ERA last month.

        STARS
        Tuesday

-Roy Halladay, Blue Jays, struck out a career-high 14 to win his major league-leading ninth game in Toronto's 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

-Dan Uggla and Cody Ross, Marlins. Uggla became the fastest second baseman to 100 homers, and Ross belted a grand slam in Florida's 10-3 win over Milwaukee.

-Zach Duke, Pirates, outpitched Johan Santana to lead Pittsburgh to a 3-1 win over the New York Mets.

-Matt Joyce, Rays, hit a two-run homer and finished with four RBIs in Tampa Bay's 6-2 victory over Kansas City.

-Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada, Yankees, each hit a three-run homer to help New York beat Texas 12-3 and take over the best record in the AL.

-Joe Mauer, Twins, homered and drove in three runs in Minnesota's 4-3 victory over Cleveland.

        HALFWAY THERE

The Dodgers reached the halfway point of Manny Ramirez's suspension for violating baseball's drug policy - and they still have the best record in the game at 36-18. A late rally helped them beat Arizona 6-5 Tuesday night, making them 15-10 since their star slugger received a 50-game ban. Ramirez is eligible to return July 3, when the Dodgers begin a series in San Diego.

        NICE COMPANY

Derek Jeter became the fourth active player with 1,500 runs in New York's 12-3 victory against the Texas Rangers, joining Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. and Gary Sheffield. ... The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers to give manager Terry Francona his 500th victory. Francona became the third Boston manager to reach that plateau with the Red Sox, joining Joe Cronin (1,071) and Mike Higgins (560).

        WELCOME TO THE MAJORS

Vin Mazzaro pitched into the seventh inning to win his major league debut, leading the Athletics to a 5-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Mazzaro, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Sacramento before the game, allowed three hits, walked four and struck out one in 6 1-3 innings. He became the first Oakland pitcher to win his major league debut since Dallas Braden on April 24, 2007, at Baltimore.

        MIGHTY STICK

Matt Joyce probably earned himself more than a three-games stay with the Rays by hitting a tiebreaking two-run double and a two-run homer in Tampa Bay's 6-2 win over the Royals on Tuesday night. Joyce also homered Sunday after being recalled from Triple-A Durham, where he'd gone after three games early in the season.

        THAT JUST HAPPENED

Cincinnati's Ramon Hernandez stole his first base since May 6, 2007 - and he did it against Yadier Molina. The Reds catcher made only the 14th steal attempt all season off the Cardinals' backstop, who has thrown out five runners.

        LITTLE HELP, GUYS?

The Mets have scored two runs or less in five of Johan Santana's 11 starts, and backed their ace with just one Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss to the Pirates.

        SO CLOSE

The Cubs gave up a tying, two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning and lost in the 12th, slipping back to .500 with their 11th loss in 15 games after falling 6-5 in Atlanta.

        SPEAKING

"Memphis is a nice place and all. But I like it a little better here.'' - Cardinals rookie Nick Stavinoha after a go-ahead two-run double helped St. Louis beat Cincinnati 5-2 Tuesday night. Stavinoha has 12 RBIs in 45 at-bats since a mid-May callup from Triple-A Memphis.

        SEASONS

        June 3

1918 - Dutch Leonard of the Boston Red Sox pitched his second no-hitter, blanking the Detroit Tigers 5-0.

1932 - Lou Gehrig became the first American League player to hit four home runs in a game, helping the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia A's 20-13. The accomplishment was overshadowed by the resignation of John McGraw as manager of the New York Giants.

1954 - Henry Thompson of the New York Giants hit three home runs and drove in eight runs in a 13-8 win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Willie Mays drove in the other five runs with two homers.

1971 - Ken Holtzman of the Chicago Cubs pitched his second no-hitter, beating the Cincinnati Reds 1-0.

1978 - Dave Johnson became the first major leaguer to hit two pinch-hit grand slams in a season. His grand slam in the ninth inning gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

1989 - Los Angeles and Houston played 22 innings at the Astrodome in the longest night game in National League history - 7 hours, 14 minutes. The Astros won the game on Rafael Ramirez's RBI single off Jeff Hamilton, normally the Dodgers' third baseman. When the game ended, Fernando Valenzuela was playing first and Eddie Murray was at third.

1989 - Nolan Ryan pitched his 11th career one-hitter and struck out 11 as Texas beat Seattle 6-1. It was Ryan's 16th low-hit game (no-hitter or one-hitter), breaking Bob Feller's record of 15.

1995 - Pedro Martinez of Montreal pitched nine perfect innings against San Diego before giving up a leadoff double to Bip Roberts in the 10th inning of the Expos 1-0 win.

2003 - Sammy Sosa was ejected in the first inning of Chicago's 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays after umpires found cork in his shattered bat.

2006 - Damion Easley hit three homers and had seven RBIs in Arizona's 13-9 victory over Atlanta.

2008 - Randy Johnson took sole possession of second place on baseball's career strikeout list after getting the Milwaukee Brewers' Mike Cameron to go down swinging in the first inning. It was Johnson's 4,673rd career strikeout, breaking a tie with Roger Clemens and leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks' veteran behind only Nolan Ryan, who had 5,714 strikeouts in his career.

Today's birthdays: Travis Hafner 32; Jose Molina 34.

          This Day in Baseball
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On June 3 in Baseball History...

1925 - White Sox manager Eddie Collins makes hit number 3,000 against Detroit.

1930 - Grover Alexander is released by the Phillies after posting an 0-3 record. He ends his career thinking he has the N.L. record for most wins at 373, one more than Christy Mathewson. In 1946, a win disallowed in 1902 is restored to Mathewson's record, to leave the two great pitchers at a tie.

1932 - Lou Gehrig hits four consecutive home runs and narrowly misses a fifth in a Yankees-Athletics slugfest won by New York 20-13. Tony Lazzeri hits for the cycle, and the teams set a still-standing record for extra bases on long hits in a single game (41).

1937 - Negro Leagues star Josh Gibson is credited with a drive that hits just two feet below the rim of Yankee Stadium, about 580 feet from home plate. It is estimated that the ball would have traveled nearly 700 feet if unimpeded.

1953 - Congress cites the research of New York City librarian Robert Henderson in proving that Alexander Cartwright founded baseball and not Abner Doubleday. His 1947 book Bat, Ball and Bishop documents Cartwright's contributions to the origins of the game of baseball.

1955 - Stan Musial hits the 300th home run of his career, a fifth-inning, three-run shot against Brooklyn's Johnny Podres. The Cards use an N.L.-record eight pitchers but still lose 12-5.

1958 - The Dodger referendum passes in Los Angeles by a slim margin of 24,293 votes. The proposition allows the city to sell 300 acres of Chavez Ravine to the Dodgers for their stadium. The N.L. president had stated that the Dodgers should vacate Los Angeles if the bill failed.

1971 - Cubs southpaw Ken Holtzman tosses the second no-hitter of his career, victimizing the Reds 1-0. Holtzman scores the only run, in the third inning.
1980 - The New York Mets select 18-year-old Darryl Strawberry from Los Angeles's Crenshaw High School with the first pick in the annual June free-agent draft. The Blue Jays then pick shortstop Garry Harris.

1985 - The Brewers select University of North Carolina catcher B.J. Surhoff with the first pick in what will prove to be an extremely fruitful free-agent draft. Surhoff was the catcher for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1984, and fellow Olympians Will Clark (Mississippi State), Bobby Witt (University of Oklahoma), and Barry Larkin (University of Michigan) are drafted second, third, and fourth by the Giants, Rangers, and Reds, respectively.

1989 - Nolan Ryan pitches his second one-hitter this season and 11th overall, allowing only a first-inning single to Harold Reynolds in a 6-1 win over Seattle. Ryan also strikes out 11 to tie Don Sutton's major league record of 21 seasons with at least 100 strikeouts.

1991 - The Yankees make high-school pitcher Brien Taylor the number one pick of the amateur draft. The Braves take Arizona State outfielder Mike Kelly with the second pick.

1995 - Expos pitcher Pedro Martinez is perfect for nine innings in San Diego, but loses his no-hitter when Bip Roberts doubles to lead off the tenth inning. Montreal eventually comes away with a 1-0 win.

1997 - Albert Belle returns to Cleveland for the first time since signing a $55-million, five-year contract with the rival White Sox. Belle has three hits, including a three-run home run, and when the fans pelt him with debris he waves his glove and asks for more. After the last out of Chicago's 9-5 win, Belle gives a final obscene gesture to the Jacobs Field crowd before running off the field.

                  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kansas City Royals at Tampa Bay Rays (-145, 9.5)

On Wednesday night, the Rays look to hand the Royals a sixth straight loss in the continuation of a three-game set at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay (26-28) won 6-2 on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 on a six-game homestand that followed five straight losses to conclude a 2-5 road trip.

Though the defending AL champions have been plagued by injuries, they are 14-11 at home where they've won eight of the last 11.

Kansas City (23-28), meanwhile, has been outscored 37-14 during its five-game losing streak. The Royals, who were coming off a 1-5 homestand, lost a season-high six in a row May 8-14.

On May 7, the Royals held a three-game lead in the AL Central, but are 5-17 since then.

The Rays could be without third baseman Evan Longoria after he left Tuesday's contest with tightness in his left hamstring.

"It's probably just a day-to-day thing," said Longoria, the leading AL vote getter for this year's All-Star game. "I think the telltale thing's going to be (Wednesday)."

Losing Longoria for any length of time would be a big blow to the Rays, who are already without shortstop Jason Bartlett (ankle), outfielder Pat Burrell (neck) and second baseman Akinori Iwamura (season-ending knee injury) - all currently on the disabled list.

Though the Royals have not announced a starter for this contest, Brian Bannister (4-2, 3.64) could get the nod while trying to bounce back from his worst start of the season.

The right-hander allowed six earned runs and nine hits in five innings of an 11-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Friday. He is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA against Tampa Bay.

                  Pick: Under

Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers (-200, 8)

After a strong start to the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chad Billingsley has hit a bit of a snag.

The right-hander looks to avoid a third straight loss Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium.

Billingsley (6-3, 2.80 ERA) won five of his first six starts, but is 1-3 with a 3.51 ERA in his last five. Though he's pitched into the sixth inning each time, he'll try to help the NL-leading Dodgers (36-18) avoid losing their second straight home series.

One night after falling 3-2 to the Diamondbacks, Los Angeles rallied with five runs in the eighth for a 6-5 win on Tuesday.

"It's frustrating to lose this way," said Arizona manager A.J. Hinch, whose team has alternated wins and losses in its last eight contests.

He is 5-4 with a 3.53 ERA in 10 starts against the Diamondbacks, and has allowed two runs while striking out 15 in 13 1-3 innings to win his last two outings versus them.

On Tuesday, James Loney hit a tying three-run double in the eighth and Casey Blake followed with an RBI single for the Dodgers, who had lost three of four.

Andre Ethier hit a solo shot to snap a homerless drought of 24 games and 89 at-bats.Juan Pierre, who's hitting .379 while starting in place of the suspended Manny Ramirez, added a single. Pierre is 4 for 9 in the series after going 1 for 13 in his previous three contests.

He is 3 for 6 with a double against Jon Garland (4-4, 5.75), who also looks to avoid a third straight loss after giving up eight earned runs and nine hits while walking three in 2 2-3 innings of a 10-6 loss to Atlanta on Friday.

The right-hander, from nearby Valencia, Calif., has allowed at least seven earned runs four times in 12 starts dating to last season.

"It's flat-out terrible," Garland said. "But what do you do? Get back up there in five days and give the boys a chance."

                  Pick: Dodgers on the runline

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    Streaking

                    Josh Beckett (Boston Red Sox)

Terry Francona has had an easier time adding wins to his resume with Josh Beckett finally settling down for the Boston Red Sox.

After earning his 500th victory with Boston, Francona sends Beckett to the mound against the struggling Detroit Tigers in the middle game of their series Wednesday night.

Beckett is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in his last three starts after posting a 7.22 ERA through his first five outings.

The right-hander gave up one run and three hits while striking out eight in seven innings to earn the decision in a 3-1 win over Minnesota on Thursday.

Beckett is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two career starts against the AL Central-leading Tigers (28-22), who have scored three runs or fewer in four of their last five games. Detroit didn't get a hit Tuesday from the fourth inning until they started the ninth with three straight singles off closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Boston, meanwhile, has scored a combined 13 runs in its last two games after averaging 2.6 in its previous five contests, losing four.

                    Michael Pelfrey (New York Mets)

Pelfrey (4-1, 3.88 ERA) has become accustomed to getting little help of late. Over his last four starts, the right-hander has gone 0-1 with a 2.28 ERA and has received only four runs to work with.

On Friday, he yielded one run and five hits with struck out six in 7 2-3 innings of a 2-1, 11-inning win over the Marlins.

"My command was good but it wasn't as down as I'd like," Pelfrey said. "I know if I can pound the strike zone I can go deep into games and not walk guys."

Pelfrey, who hasn't won since beating Philadelphia 7-5 on May 7, has put together a stretch of five quality starts. He's also given up three runs or less in his last seven, going 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA.

He won his only career start against the Pirates on Aug. 15, scattering seven hits in seven scoreless innings of a 2-1 win at PNC Park.

                    Scott Feldman (Texas Rangers)

Scott Feldman (4-0, 3.91) is 4-0 with a 2.59 ERA in seven starts after being used out of the bullpen for the first two weeks of the season.

The right-hander earned a win in his last outing, allowing two runs and five hits in six innings during Texas' 5-2 victory over Oakland on Friday night in the second game of a doubleheader.

Feldman is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two starts and one relief appearance against the Yankees.

                    Slumping

                    Jordan Zimmermann (Washington Nationals)

Rookie Jordan Zimmermann (2-2, 6.07) will match up against Johnson on Wednesday. The 23-year-old right-hander, the club's top pitching prospect, gave up five runs in six innings of Washington's loss at San Francisco on May 12.

"I hope I'm not part of history tomorrow," Zimmermann said Tuesday. "I have to go out there and pitch my game and not think about history in the making, I guess."

                    Brian Bannister (Kansas City Royals)

Though the Royals have not announced an official starter for this contest, Brian Bannister (4-2, 3.64) could get the nod while trying to bounce back from his worst start of the season.

The right-hander allowed six earned runs and nine hits in five innings of an 11-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Friday. He is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA against Tampa Bay.

                    Returning

                    Kyle Lohse (St. Louis Cardinals)

It's been an up-and-down opening two months of the season for St. Louis' Kyle Lohse, who returns to the mound after a recent arm injury hoping to build off his last start.

Lohse and the Cardinals continue their four-game series with Cincinnati on Wednesday, trying to extend their home dominance over the Reds.

Lohse (4-3, 3.98 ERA) recorded a career-high 15 victories for St. Louis (30-22) in 2008 and he opened this season by winning his first three decisions. The right-hander injured his knee while covering first base at the end of April, however, and struggled in his first three starts in May, going 0-3 with a 10.67 ERA.

Lohse appeared to bounce back in his last outing, scattering four hits through eight innings in a 5-0 win over Kansas City on May 23. That performance was soured, however, when he was hit in the arm by a pitch, forcing him to miss his next start.

"I don't know exactly what was going on inside there," he told the Cardinals' official Web site, "but I can tell you what I was feeling was a lot of burning and kind of a cramping sensation when I tried to throw hard. ... You can throw through a lot of things, but not that."

This will be Lohse's second start this season against the Reds (27-24), who reached him for seven runs and nine hits over six innings in an 8-3 victory on May 9.

Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers [ESPN | 7:05 PM ET]

Red Sox (-145, O/U 9): Josh Beckett is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in his last three starts after posting a 7.22 ERA through his first five outings. Beckett is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two career starts against the AL Central-leading Tigers. Boston has scored a combined 13 runs in its last two games after averaging 2.6 in its previous five contests, losing four. Boston's bench has gotten deeper with the activation of outfielder Mark Kotsay prior to this series' opener. Kotsay has missed the entire season after back surgery. Boston's available relievers have a combined 2.49 ERA in their last three appearances.

The Red Sox are 21-8 in Beckett's last 29 starts as a road favorite.
The Under is 11-4-2 in the last 17 meetings.

                          Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side Play of the Day)

Tigers: Armando Galarraga (3-5, 5.50) went 0-5 with an 8.49 ERA in six starts last month. The right-hander suffered a loss against Baltimore on Thursday, allowing three runs and 10 hits in seven innings as Detroit fell 5-1. Galarraga has faced the Red Sox once, giving up five runs and seven hits in 5 1-3 innings during a 10-9 Tigers loss on May 7, 2008. The AL Central-leading Tigers have scored three runs or fewer in four of their last five games. Detroit's available relievers have a combined 3.27 ERA in their last three appearances.

The Under is 7-0 in the Tigers' last 7 home games.

Cincinnati Reds at St. Louis Cardinals [8:15 PM ET]

Reds: The Reds have lost four of five. They've scored 16 runs during that stretch while hitting .214. Second-year right fielder Jay Bruce went hitless in four at-bats Tuesday and is 1 for 20 in the first five games of Cincinnati's seven-game trip. Bruce is batting .175 (11 for 63) lifetime against the Cardinals. Johnny Cueto (4-3, 2.53) will try to help the Reds bounce back as he looks to avoid losing a third straight decision. After giving up 12 earned runs over 6 2-3 innings in two losses to the Cardinals in 2008, Cueto limited them to one run and five hits in seven innings of a 6-4 victory May 8.

The Reds are 1-7 in their last 8 road games.
The Under is 13-3-1 in Cueto's last 17 road starts.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 2

Cardinals (-130, O/U 8): It's been an up-and-down opening two months of the season for Kyle Lohse, who returns to the mound after a recent arm injury hoping to build off his last start. Lohse (4-3, 3.98 ERA) opened this season by winning his first three decisions. The right-hander injured his knee while covering first base at the end of April, however, and struggled in his first three starts in May, going 0-3 with a 10.67 ERA. This will be Lohse's second start this season against the Reds, who reached him for seven runs and nine hits over six innings in an 8-3 victory on May 9. The Cardinals have won 13 of 16 against Cincinnati at home.

The Under is 8-0 in the Cardinals' last 8 home games.
The Cardinals are 23-8 in their last 31 games as a home favorite.
