All the exotic bets should payout huge this year with all the parity. Actually, they payout pretty big every year at the Kentucky Derby.
I'm going with Dunkirk now, probably change my mind on Saturday.
I actually hit the superfecta about 5 or 6 six years ago, paid out about $21,000. A good friend of mine and I put our money together, as we always do, gives you more options when betting the exoctics.
That's no longer true. Favorites had gone 25 years without a win until Fusaichi Pegasus. Since then, the fave has won three of the last five including Big Brown last year, Street Sense in 07 and Smarty Jones in 04. Barbaro in 06 was second choice.
The trend has reversed and favorites are doing well.
I like the following three:
Friesan Fire (great trainer; second each of the last two years)
Regal Ransom (lone speed)
Dunkirk (three spectacular races)
Toss out I Want Revenge: his trainer is a cheater who won't be able to pull his crap under the close scrutiny of the Derby
If forced to pick just one today, I'd take Regal Ransom

I agree. Pletcher is a cheater and I'm going to throw out all of his horses: Dunkirk, Advice, and Join in the Dance. Still after watching him whine after Dunkirk lost the Florida Derby. Dunkirk is a good horse, but by no means is he one of the best. Gomez decided to mount Pioneer of the Nile instead of Dunkirk. I can't bet on a California horse either. I like Firesian Fire, but as the old saying goes: what goes on at the FairGrounds stays at the FairGround. Think I'll play him anyway.

Unless you're just playing numbers, which may not be a bad idea in this derby, the Post positions haven't been assigned yet. That list is just a ranking, they draw posts tomorrow.
Keep in mind also, they're calling for UGLY weather Saturday, running in 3 inches of Soup certainly changes the dynamic of this one. And it is DIRT, not the Poly crap that the west coaster like soooo much. POTN has never run on dirt as some of the other ones haven't either.
Watch for Win Willy as a "live" dog, and IWR with young Talamo on board!!
