  • Fantasy Baseball Draft Help

Yes, my draft is tomorrow and I have a lot of baseball knowledge, but I'm clueless when it comes to a baseball draft.

Just looking for basic tips based on the rules below...I don't even know where to start...lol.

    THANKS

Scoring Categories: Team performance is tabulated in 5offensive and 5 pitching categories:

    Home runs
    Runs batted in
    Stolen bases
Composite batting average (total hits / total at-bats)
    Runs scored

    Wins
    Saves
Composite earned run average (total earned runs / total innings pitched)
Composite ratio ((walks + hits) / total innings pitched)
    Strikeouts

Teams are ranked from first to last in each of the ten categories. For the ten-team league, the first place team in a given category receives ten points, the second place team receives nine points, on down to one point for the last place team. The team with the most points for all ten categories is declared the winner.

I know in FB the common perception is to draft RBs first...in baseball, I have no idea so thanks again!

In a ten team league, my motto is usually don't pay for saves. I'm assuming there are 3 RP spots for each team, meaning that a closer will be available for basically the entire draft. I wouldn't waste a high pick on a big name like K-rod or Paps. I would build a good hitting staff, picking up a pitcher for every two hitters early. And building a decent, but not shut-down relief staff later in the draft.

Draft offensive players for the around the first 6 rounds, than start with the pitching. You'll notice there's tons of pitching to be had and most if is risky anyways, i.e Brandon Webb, but there's a only about 5 rounds of good offensive players. Good luck

        Sorry, should've posted this:

Team Composition: Each team is comprised of 24 players (14 position players and 10 pitchers) taken from the rosters of the American and National League teams and will have the following:

        2 catchers
        1 1B/3B "corner infielder"
        1 first baseman
        1 2B/SS "middle infielder"
        1 second baseman
1 utility player / designated hitter
        1 third baseman
        1 shortstop
        5 outfielders
        10 pitchers

There are no minimum requirements on the number of players from each league.

Player Position Eligibility: A player is eligible to be selected for any position at which he appeared in 20 or more games during last season. If he did not appear in 20 games at any one position, he is eligible for the position at which he appeared the most times. Once the season commences, a player qualifies for a position by playing it at least once. Multiple eligibility is permitted.

Player Draft: Players will be selected at a 30-round draft during the first week of the baseball season. The draft order is determined by a random selection, reversing the order after every round.

I do most of my research online, read up as much as possible. Be up to date on all injuries as well, this way you avoid stupid mistakes. Make sure you know what the guys behind you need as well, say you have pick 8 and the guys with 9,10 pick after you (twice each) then you pick again. You need an OF and a RP, but they both have drafted all the RPs they would need. You know you can draft OF first, and wait there four picks to select a RP. This way you get the best OF possible, and still get the same pick at RP because you know they won't be taking one.

You draft infielders 1st, dont take a save guy until at least 5 of them go first.

Stated correctly above is that with 10 teams there will be plenty of pitchers that are very good toward the end of the draft.

A-Rod went in the 4rth round in our draft, you may want to pick him in the first round unless you can get hanley ramirez or jose reyes, other than shortstop I think 3rd is the next one to fill with a big player.

with 10 guys you can end up with an infield like either

3B A-Rod 2B Roberts /Phillips/Kinsler/utley 1B Cabrera/ Teixeira/Berkman and SS if u cant get the top 3 H.ramirez reyes rollins wait until later and try and get Ramirez from Wht Sox he started out bad but hates the cold you may be able to get him in later rounds.

                3B Longoria 2B same as above 1B pujols/Howard

There are only 5 outfielders to get early if you get them in a good draft spot and they are Braun,Sizemore,Soriano,Beltran, upton .

                Good Luck

If you can get some solid RP's then you should easily win Saves, WHIP, and ERA. That was my motto in my rotisserie league and its paying dividends so far for me. I also go for avg and steals because that usually means lots of runs scored as well. If you can win those categories and not come in last in the other 4 you should be near the top.
