    Ice Picks: NHL best bets
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Columbus Blue Jackets at St. Louis Blues (-160)

The Columbus Blue Jackets are going to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history while St. Louis is trying to make it back to the postseason for the first time 2004.

"I don't know if it has quite sunk in yet," Jackets Captain Rick Nash told reporters. "We're so used to just playing out the season, at least the last 10 games or so. This is huge. I'm really happy for our fans. They've waited a long time for this, too."

While the Jackets may be relaxed Friday night, the St. Louis Blues will be anything but. They enter the game eighth in the Western Conference. St. Louis has taken four of the five games against the Jackets this season including both ends of a home-and-home series less than two weeks ago.

Chris Mason has started 35 straight games for the Blues who will be a desperate club against a team that may be a little complacent after completing a task that took nine years to complete.

    Pick: St. Louis -160

Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers (+130)

All that’s left for the Edmonton Oilers is to spoil the party for their arch rivals the Calgary Flames. The Oilers were eliminated from playoff contention Tuesday night while the Flames remain in a battle with the Canucks for top spot in the Northwest Division.

The Flames are coming off a 47-shot effort against the Canucks but once again they were left shaking their heads. Calgary lost 4-1 despite out-firing Vancouver by 22 shots on goal.

"We can bear down a little more," Mike Cammalleri told the media. "We can do some things to make our shots a little more effective."

It starts with improving the power-play. The Flames are 0-for-37 with the man advantage over their past eight games.

"It's definitely something we've got to work on," Cammalleri said, "We've got to get that swagger back. Get that confidence back. That will come with some success here.”

While the Flames are trying to find an answer for their offense, the Oilers are looking for answers for pretty much every aspect of their game.

"We came into this season really excited to get it going. It's a pretty bad feeling in here," Oilers forward Sam Gagner admitted to the press. "We hung out in the middle of the pack, then just faltered at the end. It's a pretty tough thing to deal with.”

This is the first end of a home-and-home battle to wrap up the season. The Oilers won the first two meetings of the season but the Flames bounced back with a pair of wins of their own.

    Pick: Flames -150

Cubs (-145, O/U 8): Chicago's Rich Harden makes his first start of 2009 after going 5-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 12 starts with the team last season after coming over in a trade with Oakland. Harden faced the Brewers twice during that stretch, allowing a total of two runs in leading the Cubs to two wins. In his lone appearance at Miller Park last year, he pitched seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Cubs are 8-2 in Harden's last 10 starts.

Brewers: Milwaukee's Braden Looper makes his debut with the team after pitching for St. Louis last season. Looper has not had much success against the Cubs during his career, going 3-6 despite a solid 2.60 ERA. He has dropped his last four decisions against them, including three last year.

Brewers are 3-14 in their last 17 games as an underdog.

New York Knicks at Orlando Magic [ESPN2 | 8 PM ET]

Knicks: New York has dropped 12 of 14 and seems to have given up after failing to stay in contention for one of the last playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks are coming off a 113-86 shellacking at the hands of Detroit on Wednesday, prompting head coach Mike D'Antoni to say his team was "sagging" and "didn't compete." “Our guys got overwhelmed and we lost a lot of our mojo and a lot of determination, which is inexcusable but it happens, and that’s more or less the story of the game,” said D’Antoni.

Knicks are 3-1 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
The UNDER is 9-0 in New York's last 9 games vs. Eastern Conference.

Key Injuries - C Eddy Curry (knee) is OUT.

PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (UNDER - Total Play of the Day)

Magic (-10.5, O/U 210.5): Orlando is still chasing the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference and sits one game behind Boston with less than a week to go. The Magic are coming off their worst offensive performance in almost two months on Wednesday in an 81-78 win over Memphis, which came just a day after they lost 93-83 at Houston. “I’m not faulting anybody’s effort. I’m not faulting anybody’s desire,” Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy said. “But offensively we are playing the game very poorly.”

Magic are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Friday games.
The UNDER is 6-2 in Orlando's last 8 home games.

Key Injuries - PG Anthony Johnson (eye) is questionable.
G Mickael Pietrus (knee) is questionable.
G Jameer Nelson (shoulder) is OUT.

                          PROJECTED SCORE: 108
