Baylor -4 over Penn State. If it isn't broke why fix it. Baylor came through in the semi-finals and I see a similar effort against PSU. Most schools would look at the NIT as a second rate tournament and have very little interest in it, but not Baylor. This is the biggest sporting event of any kind this school has been involved with in over 50 years. Everyone associated with the school is jacked-up about an NIT Championship. I heard an interview with their top player Curtis Jerrells saying he would rather be playing for an NIT championship than having made the NCAA tournament and getting eliminated in the first or second round. This will be Baylor's first championship of any kind in basketball.
As against San Diego State, I just think Baylor is a much better baskerball team than Penn State. They have played against much tougher competition all year. PSU is ranked 40th and their strength of schedule is ranked 62nd among all Division I schools. Baylor on the other hand is ranked 26th with a strength of schedule ranked 22nd among Division I schools. So while PSU has more wins they have come against weaker competition. Most of Baylors losses have come against top 10 or top 25 ranked teams such as Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas. Penn State's record this year against teams ranked between 26-50 is 4-5. Baylor's record against teams ranked between 26-50 is 4-1. This tells me that Baylor for the most part beats teams they should beat and I think PSU falls into that catagory.
