                Today's games

                NCAA tournament

Villanova outscored Pitt 41-26 in second half of 67-57 home win Jan 28 in Philly (+4); Pitt turned ball over 17 times, was just 3-16 from arc and Blair got in foul trouble. Villanova is 15-3 in last 18 games, winning by 20-24 points in last two games, vs UCLA-Duke. Pitt is 12-2 since losing at Villanova; they're first #1 seed ever to win first three tourney games, all by 10 points or less. Last time two teams from same conference met in this round was 2002, when Oklahoma (-6.5) beat Missouri 81-75.

Thabeet is single-biggest force in college ball right now; UConn's three opponents in tournament shot 25.8/41.3/36.4% from floor, 14-63 from arc, as Husky perimeter players can pressure more with big fella behind them swatting shots. Missouri is 18-57 from arc in tourney so far; they will speed game up, try to get Thabeet in foul trouble, force turnovers to create transition opportunities. Tigers are 3-2 as an underdog this year. #1 seeds were 4-0 in this round LY, are favored to win all four games in regional finals this year. #3 seeds are 0-3 in this round last 2 yrs.

                        Weekend's six-pack

Today we conclude our look at the top prospects of all 30 teams in the major leagues by looking at Toronto Blue Jay prospects.

-- Travis Snider, OF-- 5-10, 245, hit .344 in brief visit to AAA.

-- JP Arencibia, C-- Has never played above AA; hit .282 in AA.

-- Brett Cecil, P-- Starter in pros; was a reliever in college.

-- Justin Jackson, SS-- Has only hit .224 as a pro so far.

-- David Cooper, 1B-- Not a great athlete, but a great hitter.

-- Kevin Ahrens, 3B-- Switch-hitter struggled at plate last year.

                        ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday's list of 13: Nobody asked me, but.........

                          13) Kentucky paid Billy Gillispie $6M to go away after two years in Lexington; other than UK alumni, why would anyone think this is a goob job? Gillispie won 22 games this year, won Coach of the Year in the SEC last year, and he got fired already? Good lord...... its become like the baseball job in the Bronx-- if you win it all, you break even.

                          12) Then there's Boston U, which canned Dennis Wolff after fifteen years, despite Wolff's winning record, including a 17-13 record this season. The coaching world has gone freakin' crazy.

                          11) Oregon hired Paul Westhead as its new women's coach, which means the Lady Ducks will be doing lot of running. Westhead won an NBA title in 1980 and was Loyola Marymount's coach during a 1990 run to the Elite Eight. His teams always play fast.

                          10) CBS/ESPN announcer Bill Raftery likes to mock his career as a coach, but fact is, he was 154-141 in his career at Seton Hall.

                          9) Is it a good idea that all three Duke assistamt coaches are guys who played for Coach K? Which one stands up and says if they think the head coach is wrong about something? Wouldn't it be better to have at least one outsider on the staff, to provide fresh ideas?

                          8) Such as, "Coach K, we should recruit some athletic big men."

                          7) Do we really need two movies abourt **** cops in the same year?

                          6) The average ticket to a major league baseball game cost $25.43 last year; only 1/3 of teams raised their prices this season.

                          5) On Monday nights, some tickets to Twin games cost whatever the stock market closed at that day; for instance, if market were to close at 7,500, those tickets would be $7.50 apiece.

                          4) If I sat here last year and told you the Tampa Bay Rays would be the defending American League champs, you would have sent me for a drug test, which is why sports is so much fun. You never know.

                          3) I'm thinking an 18-game NFL schedule is better than 17. The more the better, as far as I'm concerned; what might happen is once NFL's schedule expands, President's Day Weekend will have Daytona 500 and the Super Bowl on the same weekend, which would be fun.

                          2) Is it me, or does it seem like spring training has lasted forever this spring? Next week will be one of the slowest the whole sports year.

                          1) Would be nice if the NFL bailed us out and released its schedule for 2009 this week., but they usually do it after baseball starts.

                          ----------------------------------------------------------------------
