      Ice Picks: NHL best bets
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Florida Panthers at Philadelphia Flyers (-191, 5.5)

The Florida Panthers will be in a tough spot in Philly Thursday night. The Panthers will be playing the second half of back-to-back games and face the dubious task of wrapping up the set in one of the toughest buildings in the NHL.

The Flyers are 22-10-3-1 on home ice this season and have won four of their last five at the Wachovia Center. Philly is riding a three game winning streak during which the team has refocused defensively.

"These three games, the way we played defense, that tells you everything right there - that we can beat everybody in this league," Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen told reporters.

The Philly power play has scored seven goals during the three-game winning streak.

The real payoff is when the Flyers win at home they win big. Their last 14 wins on home ice have been by at least two goals or more. Philly to cover the puck line at home may be one of the hottest bets in all of sports right now.

The Panthers had won just three of their past ten games prior to meeting the Sabres on Wednesday night. Florida’s offense had dried up in the past two weeks scoring just nine goals in their last five games.

      Pick: Philadelphia (puckline -1.5)

Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens (-260, 6)

The Montreal Canadiens snapped a five-game losing skid with a convincing 6-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers Tuesday. The question now is can they keep it up?

The newly formed top line of Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu and Alex Tanguay combined for five goals and eleven points.

"We were desperate," said Tanguay after the third five-point game of his career. "We didn't have time to wait a couple of games for it to click. We need to win now."

General Manager and head coach Bob Gainey will keep that top line together against Tampa Bay.

"Koivu's line certainly performed in the role we put them in," Gainey told the press. "They were a good working trio of players.”

The Canadiens’ power play was 3-for-6 against Atlanta.

Tampa Bay is coming off a tight 2-1 overtime win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Bolts didn’t deserve to win that game but rookie goalie Mike McKenna stood on his head making 33 saves. It was McKenna’s 11th start of the season as he looks to secure a job for next year.

"It's motivation enough to be in the NHL," the rookie goalie said, "but when your team is not getting many shots and you're facing a pile of shots, then you know you've got to keep it tight."

The over is 4-0 in Montreal’s last four games and 4-1 in Tampa Bay’s past five. Look for the new big line for Montreal to continue to find success.

      Pick: Over
