Troy vs N. Texas writeup
Whoa, padnuh! Before you jump on North Texas to make their usual late season romp through the Sun Belt Conference, understand that this week's foe may be just a bit tougher than the list of "tomato cans" that fill out that grouping of teams.
First, Troy State's not yet in the Sun Belt. And, if they were, this game might be for the conference lead. The Men of Troy are 4-4. NO Sun Belt Team other than North Texas has more than three wins. And two of Troy's victories (UAB and Marshall) look pretty good right now. Those two are better than any team North Texas has beaten this season.
Troy's losses are to Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Virginia. All will be in bowls and all might win 8 games or more.
North Texas' losses are also to terrific teams-OU, Air Force and Arkansas.
But note that North Texas' famed defense isn't near the quality of last year's unit. They've struggled to cover the last four weeks allowing 23 points per game to the likes of ULaLa, Idaho, Utah State and Middle Tennessee State. Those four teams have won a total of 7 games.
Troy is 7-3 ATS vs teams over .500. Yes, North Texas is looking for revenge and they've been very tough at home lately (10-3 ATS). But I simply believe this is too many points.
